And when mountain lion comes out non 64bit mac users will have a great choice of either the buggiest, slowest, most counter intuitive OS X ever or no icloud with snow leopard. The users of newer macs will of course have to cough it up for the service pack that is mountain lion.

32-bit Macs are already "stuck" on 10.6, but there are some 64-bit Macs that are won't run Mountain Lion (why oh why..oh yes of course, the GPU…!).

I really wish Apple would make an official announcement about how long they'll offer 10.6 security fixes.

It's hard to believe that Apple still blocks TRIM support for drives that don't claim to be "Apple SSD".
Apple doesn't block TRIM (there are enablers that you can download), the company just doesn't support it in drives that they doesn't use, which is probably a good thing. There has been some discussion, for example, about whether TRIM actually degrades the performance and/or longevity of Sandforce drives, which already have their own garbage collection software.

I don't think it's quite so, and correct me if I am wrong. 64bit c2d macs run lion in 32 bit mode because apple in its infinite wisdom has a motherboard that won't handle the 64bit cpu, but the os boots in 32 bit mode (I can test the later because I own a 2006 mac) By ml 64bits become mandatory so no ml for them, which is the official excuse, the honest one would be as you said that the sub par gpus apple has used in most of their older machines can't handle it.

As for an official announcement from apple, good luck with that... The problem is not so much that they won't offer security updates, which they will, it's that by mountain lion they won't offer any more bug fixes, and god knows lion needs more bug fixes even after the mountain lion service pack is released.

Wait a second, aren't drives supposed to be a user replaceable component of most macs? Trim should be enabled by default on every ssd as it's as close to an ssd industry standard as any, and if any manufacturer suggests otherwise it should be disabled by the user. Why should apple be flipping a switch to disable it by default on non apple ssds so by default most ssd drives not by apple will run like crap without it, unless someone is computer savvy enough to download a thrird party program to enable it? Are they looking after sandforces best interests just in case trim doesn't play nice with their drives?

Good job Apple. My Mac Pro and Mini both updated perfectly using the combo. After I installed the Safari update on the Mini it caught the fact that the Flash plugin was outdated and I was prompted to update. Excellent work!

An no, Safari doesn't feel any faster. It just sits there on the dock while I use Firefox. Safari Reader is great when I need it but otherwise Firefox just works better for me.

Looks like there is a bug in the Dock in 10.7.4 that one of my co-workers found.

Open Safari, drag a bookmark or link to the Dock and the icon is blank. This wasn't the case in 10.7.3

How come no one has gone mental over the plain text password fault?

Basically any organisation that uses mobile account (read that as ANY Mac bound to Active Directory) currently has their password stored in a plain text file. And while the combo update DOES fix the issue from happening again I can confirm that it DOES NOT remove the archived *.log's living on your Mac that already have your password stored in them in clear text.

This is beyond f---ing stupid.

Any reason as to why Safarai 5.1.7 is not provided via Software Update? I´ve got the Update, but Safari is still on 5.1.6

Edit: Nevermind, it appeared in Software Update now.

Actually they do. TRIM is up to the hardware manufacturer to support. If it were true that TRIM degrades the performance of certain drives, the hardware manufacturer could simply disable TRIM support for that particular SSD and the OS would respect that since it communicates with the drive in order to find out which features are available.

It's simply a dirty trick to get people to buy Apple labeled SSDs.

So I downloaded 1gb of stuff just to remove a tick from a checkbox.

These patch releases are getting way out of hand...

I had that error too. Also had "Boot OS X" partitions mount in finder.

Simple fix was to eject the drive, unplug it and plug it back in.

de-crypted. ran disk utility. original error gone. new one appeared:

Invalid Volume Header @ 0: incorrect block type
Invalid Volume Header @ 479244221953: incorrect block type
disk0s2 is not a CoreStorage volume

booted from Recovery Partition, ran Disk Utility twice on repair. Didn't say it was repairing anything, but it didn't find anything, either.

All came out okay.

Re-booted into startup drive and verified via Disk Utility. All is now well.

Going to re-encrypt and move on with my life.

I installed the new update and now vmware doesnt work throwing kernel errors and crap... ugh!!!!

Install Virtual Box from Oracle - it's FREE and works great!

PS I've not tested it with this system update yet though, will let you know when I have. :)

Just installed 10.7.4 and VB is still working great - the rest of the system seems very sloooooow though!

SMB sharing still flawed. It shouldn't be that difficult

Printer sharing through smb or using an iOS app worked always flawless under Snow Leopard. After upgrade to Lion and even clean install. Te first time the password couldn't be changed. But at least the shares worked as defined before. After reinstall and latest updates the password can be changed but typically if I get it working after reboot the share passwords need to be reset ...
