Did you ever have the iMessages Beta installed on your system? I just found the other day that it left some nasty residual files and services that were causing all sorts of problems on my Macs. As soon as I killed the services and trashed the files, it fixed a lot of issues with both of my computer.

Would you mind expanding on this, files/folders you deleted.

thanks.

Can you be more specific, like what/where are the residual files and services?

I can't remember the names, but I found them by going to Activity Monitor and sorting by Virtual Memory used. It was using about 10x my total RAM in virtual memory. I googled the names, learned they were related to the iMessages beta, and killed them.

there are some old and famous bugs of OS X which never seem to get fixed and Apple just swipes the problem under the rug. When will they fix those ?? FOr me personally, the most annoying bug is the disappearance of the mouse pointer in photoshop (and numerous other programs for other users). ANd also the random disconnect from my airport is quite annoying and an well famous bug.

2010-MBP rejoice...

they fixed the bug in 2010 MBPs that forced it to use the dedicated GPU all the time.

thank god.

Well, my machine didn't burst into flames.

And no... the shutdown bug still persists. I give up. It's been there so long now the coders must think it's some kind of diagnostic feature left there by their predecessors.

Other than the occasional security update... this is probably it for Mountain Lion folks.

10.8. ---> R.I.P.

This happens on my rMBP every single time I go to full screen when watching a movie in iTunes. I have to go to the widgets screen to get the cursor back.

Update: They fixed it! 10.8.4 fixes this.

Every time there has been a major OSX update, there has been a minor update to the previous one around the same time (sometimes even afterwards). I'd be shocked if there isn't a 10.8.5 (if not more). 10.9 beta will go out Monday at WWDC, so my guess would be first 10.8.5 beta later in June.

update?

I am not seeing any update in the App store; software update says I have no update. The version in App store is 10.8.3

Are they rolling this out in stages?

For those with third-party SSD's how did the update affect your TRIM enabler's?

When I updated to 10.8.3 I had to re-enable TRIM on the iMac and MBP. At the time I was using Groth's on both and when I updated the MBP Groth's stopped working, wouldn't turn on TRIM. I installed Chameleon's SSD Optimizer and it was able to turn TRIM back on.

Today both the iMac (Groth's) and MBP (Chameleon) kept TRIM enabled after the 10.8.4 update. :)

I just want the Finder to dynamically allocate column width to display full file names. :/ How hard could it be?

My mid 2012 i7 MBP with SSD has downloaded and installed OS X 10.8.4 with no observable incidents and appears to be operating within normal parameters.

Yep, something's wrong there...

I've been using a 15" Retina at work for a while now, leaving it on overnight attached to dual external displays. (It serves as my desktop system at work, only going mobile with it occasionally - like for business trips.)

So far, I've had absolutely no stability issues with this one. Only app crashes I've ever seen are ones definitely just software related (could happen on any Mac, in other words).

I don't envy you if you've got a system that usually appears fine though, and just suddenly crashes on you at random. Those are the WORST to get repaired. Understandably, the Apple Genius isn't going to have warranty service done if he or she can't duplicate the problem. But those types of problems probably only show up if you spend far more time in front of it than an Apple store staffer is going to do.

If you haven't done so yet though, you might want to back up important data elsewhere first, and just wipe the whole drive, putting a fresh OS X install back on the machine. Use it like that for a while, just web surfing or something, and see if you still run into instability. (Don't restore your documents or apps during this time period. The whole point is to rule out any other potential reasons for your crashes.)

You need to take it to Apple, there is an issue with your hardware.

Does this Messages bug fix the problem of old messages just randomly re-appearing? Because that's really annoying and confusing.

Also, I'm not getting my hopes up that the mdworker bug is fixed. But can anyone whose system exhibits that bug report in?

Just double click the spacer between the name column and the next column. It'll automatically resize to fit (10.8.3 does this).

Does anyone know whether this fixes the issue where Safari sometimes doesn't register that you've pressed Return after entering a URL?

Edit: Nope.

This

Does this address certain apps activating the discrete GPU on Mid 2010 MBP models? I'd test it myself but I sold that MBP in anticipation for next week. Would still like to see it get fixed however.

Bloody hell I hope so. Anyone seen an difference in stability?

The update DOES NOT fix the issue with wallpaper change on restart.

That used to bug me back in lion! One time I logged into my account from the startup screen, and m desktop became the login screen. Oh apple...
