One thing i've noticed is my 2011 MBA now prefers my 802.11g network at home, whereas before the update it would always go to the 802.11a network first.

i've always found it curious that these fixes tend to be for fairly obscure issues

For the person who has the issue, it's not obscure. 10.8.3 repaired compatibility with NEC's Spectraview calibration software which was huge for me. Also, the fix was not listed in the release document. 10.8.4 probably fixes more things than you think.

For those with third-party SSD's how did the update affect your TRIM enabler's?

When I updated to 10.8.3 I had to re-enable TRIM on the iMac and MBP. At the time I was using Groth's on both and when I updated the MBP Groth's stopped working, wouldn't turn on TRIM. I installed Chameleon's SSD Optimizer and it was able to turn TRIM back on.

Today both the iMac (Groth's) and MBP (Chameleon) kept TRIM enabled after the 10.8.4 update. :)

I always enable TRIM support by hand (by modifying the kext file using a hex editor) after each update. I just updated to 10.8.4 and this time the TRIM support remained enabled. My update file size was only 152 MB.

What about the UI Lag on rmbp? Is it in any way fixed after the update, or even improved at all?

Does it fix my MBRr from:
1. shutting down on its own
2. Screen Flickering
3. Finder menu on the top left corner from going all crazy after wake?
See: jpeg attachment

Does anyone else have the problem as in my attachment?

Thanks!

We have 2 of those in our household and I have never seen any issues like you are describing. I highly doubt that a software upgrade will fix this. Sounds more like some hardware issues you are having.

Mine is running great. Always has. And with the update, seems to be a little "Snappier".

The changes or fixes are the MOST esoteric I have every heard of that will concern about 2% of the users. There is no telling what it might screw up
that is okay now. This is an update that I can easily pass on.
None of the glaring issues were fixed:
Copy and Paste same as in system 7.5 in the 1990's'
No permission to change font sizes in Contacts or add color
No save as...for quicktime movies you record.
No audio in quicktime recordings...
No improvement in iTunes so your music library can be viewed if you
have an ipod shuffle.
Open applications will still stop shut down
Slow boot up
However, since Apple does not much care what users want
this does not surprise me.

Oh FFS

1. Copy and paste works perfectly. IT'S NOT A FAULT. Why change for the sake of changing?
2. And? Why is that important. It isn't and you can't do it for the same reason you can't customise the appearance beyond blue and graphite. Apple don't do customisation in that way.
3. OK We finally have an issue! This is a fault and you should report it using apple.com/feedback
4. And another issue. Again report it.
5. iTunes is not updated by this update. It's updated separately. It always has been, it always will be
6. Don't have this issue unless something needs saving. In which case I'm grateful it hasn't shut down.
7. Not an issue. My iMac boots up just fine. Is your HD nearly full?

Did you ever have the iMessages Beta installed on your system? I just found the other day that it left some nasty residual files and services that were causing all sorts of problems on my Macs. As soon as I killed the services and trashed the files, it fixed a lot of issues with both of my computer.

I did. Not sure this is the cause as I'm having multiple issues after the fact. What did you do to remove said files?

there are some old and famous bugs of OS X which never seem to get fixed and Apple just swipes the problem under the rug. When will they fix those ?? FOr me personally, the most annoying bug is the disappearance of the mouse pointer in photoshop (and numerous other programs for other users). ANd also the random disconnect from my airport is quite annoying and an well famous bug.

So your mouse cursor only disappears in Photoshop and this is Apple's problem?

Try Adobe.

Microsoft Exchange and Calendar compatibility improvements

Hmm, maybe this will finally take care of the issue where Calendar freezes for the first minute or so after I open it because it's "Updating..." with my Exchange calendar. And maybe it will take care of the fact that hitting "Snooze" on any Exchange alarm breaks the event and makes Calendar complain about it until you fix something. Or maybe it will take care of the fact that not all "location" fields need to be matched with Exchange resources.

But I'm not holding my breath. I'm contemplating just using Outlook and removing my Exchange calendar from the Calendar app on OS X.

sorry but i need to vent..... Apple sucks. I thought by now they would listen to us...but they're still deaf. fix slowdown and other major problems.

Bleh, I had my dock customised with unsanity77's mod, and this update broke compatibility. I guess I'll be downgrading tomorrow.

My quick notes (iMac 27" '09)

-Trim support on my Samsung 830 stayed enabled.
-Shutdown times are greatly improved.
-I don't know if Messages stays in order, but even after wiping the database some notifications still don't show up on my Mac. (Before the update this meant they would later appear out of order.)

Unfortunately only updates are available so far. The full installer replete with installesd.dmg required to make a bootable usb is not yet available on the mas but I hope it will be there soon.

Nah mate, no change at al. Resizing windows is laggy, expanding folders in Finder is laggy. The same issues persist..

Damn it. Looks like I'll have to pass on the opportunity to buy a significantly discounted 15" Retina. I tested it on 10.8.3 and the UI lag is very noticeable - just opening system profiler and going from one tab to other made me unhappy.

Question - does the lag persist if you use something like gfxCardStatus app and switch to Nvidia GPU only? I am wondering if it is hardware or software - no point in buying current gen if hardware is the culprit and Apple probably will never fix the lag. Haswell GPU is supposed to be much better so may be that will be answer.

I just want the Finder to dynamically allocate column width to display full file names. :/ How hard could it be?

Oh god, yes! This has been annoying me so much lately. I have to resize the columns almost every time I look for files.

I have had NO issues with any of my Apple computers since 2006. I'd imagine you're one of the 0.1% who is running some particular software causing some issue. My computers are not slow at all, very speedy. Even my 2006 MacBook is running fine.

Even though YOU are having problems, the silent majority of us are very happy and pleased.

Reminders app upgraded to version 1.1

I can't find any reference to the updated Reminders app, nor can I find any difference in the app.

Anybody else?

The cure to your cancer is called Xtrafinder http://www.trankynam.com/xtrafinder/
(under settings there is an option to auto resize based on longest filename)

How ever it is pathetic that apple just do not want to fix simple things that obviously makes life so much easier for everyone... hence why the windows platform has had them since the early 90s

somewhat side note, it also annoys me how when apple then do give in and add simple things 15 years late, they manage to label them to the world as ground breaking "new features".

Anyway, luckily there is a small tool for nearly every strange "why can't I?" in OSX these days.

Updated :)

I use non of these, except wireless.... well... there ya go....

I find it strange that every OS X update and GPU update, before it actually installs the wallpaper dims....

Any one know why ? Its annoying enough for me to notice :)
