I did. Not sure this is the cause as I'm having multiple issues after the fact. What did you do to remove said files?

I found there was a background service that consumed huge amounts of RAM that was left over from the iMessages beta. I found it by going into activity monitor and sorting by virtual memory. I killed the process and everything on my computer started going a lot faster. I had thought that Mountain Lion just made my computer really slow - turns out it was this left over buggy service that wasn't shut down when the rest of the beta ended / was uninstalled.

Oh FFS

1. Copy and paste works perfectly. IT'S NOT A FAULT. Why change for the sake of changing?
2. And? Why is that important. It isn't and you can't do it for the same reason you can't customise the appearance beyond blue and graphite. Apple don't do customisation in that way.
3. OK We finally have an issue! This is a fault and you should report it using apple.com/feedback
4. And another issue. Again report it.
5. iTunes is not updated by this update. It's updated separately. It always has been, it always will be
6. Don't have this issue unless something needs saving. In which case I'm grateful it hasn't shut down.
7. Not an issue. My iMac boots up just fine. Is your HD nearly full?

Just because it's not a problem for does not mean other people aren't affected. I have the same issue. 100 GB of 500 GB used.

The only issue that interests me in 10.8.4 is whether the shutdown is faster, and no one has commented on that - except someone who has only used the betas.

Other than that, 10.8.3 is stable for my purposes.

I don't use iMessages, which seems to be generating most of the comments.

So why should I bother updating to 10.8.4. I might as well wait for 10.8.5 which might reduce the shutdown time.

Any comments?

Didn't fix jack regarding Messages in my case. I received and sent new messages since the update and it still is messed up.

Plus, I try to upgrade the thunderdbolt firmware and when my macbook is restarting, it suddenly stops and I have to turn on the computer myself.

wtf...

Does Safari still refresh when going "back" to a previous page?

Yes, this most likely won't be fixed until a new major version of Safari is released. I'm hoping Safari 7 in 10.9.

1. STILL didn't fix the retina flickering on the bottom screen issue in a unique screen arrangement configuration. Dude at Apple Store said he'll file a radar, but that was since 10.8.1 came out

2. Shutdown is even slower.

Get them to replace the logic board. My friend had this issue and after annoying the crap out of them, they replaced the logic board and he didn't have any issues since. It's not an OS X issue.

I still think 10.9 DP1 is much more stable than 10.8.4.

So far, no issues whatsoever.

Wait, what? Where are you seeing DP1? Are you trolling?

The whole "My Mac takes so long to shutdown" problem isn't a bug at all, it's a feature. Software that installs a file into "LaunchDaemons" or "LaunchAgents" is the likely culprit.

By default there is a 20-second delay on shutdown for all launch daemons/agents, and that is the cause.

In the "LaunchDaemons" and/or "LaunchAgents" folders inside /Library or ~/Library any file in there can cause the shutdown delay. It can be avoided if the developer of the offending software uses the parameter "ExitTimeOut 1" (not zero which is interpreted as infinity). That will force a one-second delay on shutdown of the offending background app instead of the default 20 seconds.

We experienced this slow shutdown/reboot issue where I work due to our own background software daemon in development, and the above was the cause and fix.

And as for OpenGL - Nvidia is hiring an OpenGL engineer for their Mac OS X Drivers software group in the Austin, TX area. Might be about supporting newer cards, adding newer features, or someone on the team recently left and needs to be replaced. Make of that what you will.

If my imessages can finally be in sync across all devices, I will be so happy.

I so wish, they would fix this rather than anything else.... Everything is else is just fine! Gonna hold off updating for now...

How much RAM are you running? If it's a lot and you have limited HDD space AND it's fragmented, it takes longer. I recently cloned to a new larger drive (resulting in 100s of GB of drive space, and a defragged drive) and the 2009 MBP with 16 GB of RAM shuts down much quicker. Just a thought.

You can change the hibernatemode if that's really an issue for you. Shuts down much quicker that way, but I'm leaving mine enabled.

good luck!

Epson Printer Driver problems fixed?

I hesitate to do the update to 10.8.4 because the recent Apple update for Epson printers totally destroyed large format printers such as my pair of epson 9900s. Fixing the 9900 drivers, in turned, toasted the drivers for workforce Epson printers - such as my 630 and 3540. Lots of us have yet to recover from the disaster.

I sent a note to Epson asking if they participated in the Beta testing for 10.8.4 -- but I never got a reply.

I'll wait for a while to see how the dust settles ...

Reinstall OS X after deleting your former partition. Install all updates and shutdown, then repeat the process for every new app you install until you find the problem.

If you can't do that, then shut up and stop bothering people with a problem that may have about a million possibilities. THAT IS INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. :(

Thanks.

Whats really annoying is tactless posts.

Thanks.

I have had NO issues with any of my Apple computers since 2006. I'd imagine you're one of the 0.1% who is running some particular software causing some issue. My computers are not slow at all, very speedy. Even my 2006 MacBook is running fine.

Even though YOU are having problems, the silent majority of us are very happy and pleased.

I don't think you can say that since people from apple forum are complaining about it.

Hope this fixes my iMac waking from sleep issues where it looses contact with my LAN drives after waking up. I'd really prefer putting it to sleep overnight and when I'm out instead of it running 24/7 unless it's doing something.

The update DOES NOT fix the issue with wallpaper change on restart.

Nope. Sure doesn't. It's not like this is a major issue, but it does make Apple seem real amateur hour, especially knowing they tried to fix it with this update, but somehow couldn't manage.

I actually noticed better UI graphics performance on my 2008 iMac with ATI HD 2400 card. Especially with Launchpad and Mission Control animation performance (even with Mudbox and Maya running at the same time.) Ever since I upgraded to Lion/Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard, the UI performance was not quite up to par. With this update, UI is finally as responsive as in Snow Leopard.
