is anyone else having a hard time downloading the full 10.9.2 to create usb installer? - i keep on getting a error message, and the download never finishes.

Hi there - not being rude - but more so curious: Why would you need to download the 10.9.2 update installer to a USB drive? Why not just run it from the App Store and let it do it's thing?

He's not downloading the update, he's downloading the full 10.9.2 installer, which can install the full OS fresh. It can be nice to have in case your boot drive crashes and you don't want to have to boot from the emergency partition and wait for the whole thing to download then.

There are many benefits of a bootable usb installer.

It lets you

- install on several computers without having to download it again
- format a drive to do a clean install
- restore from a backup
- reinstall without having to download again
- run disk utility

Thank you. I understand all of the above for a FULL VERSION of the operating system. I don't see the benefit though for a small update like this. You can't do a clean install from an update - you would need the full version installer, no?

Does this finally mean I can stop limping along with Cisco's VPN dropping every 3 minutes?

In case you're not aware of it, a few months ago Cisco released a "temporary" patched version of their VPN client to address this issue in 10.9. I had to turn the thumb screws on my IT folks to get them to distribute it.

Yeah. That's right. To make a bootable usb installer you need to download the full installer from the mac app store and then follow instructions at https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18081307/

Wow, have Mavericks and iOS 7 alteady been out 18 months? How time flies...wait, what?

Oh yeah, they've both been out for less than 6 months - wait, are you from a future parallell universe where it is already 2015, and Apple never fixed this issue and never released new hardware or new operating systems in 2014 at all??

G4DP actually makes sense - these operating systems are being worked on more than a year before they're released. With that in mind - his time frame is pretty accurate.

Really? "High Definition" somehow can't apply to audio? Seems it would make as much sense applying to it as to video. Just because we've been using the term HD for video a lot doesn't mean that it somehow makes no sense if applied to something else.

I agree. We have seen HD coupled with the word "video" for so long that we automatically think video when we see it - but it can (and does) certainly apply to audio as well.

High fan speeds

I updated to 10.9.2 last night and since then the fans on my 2008 mbp have been running high as soon as I open any application. If I reboot, they are quiet. It doesn't matter which program I open, I've tried safari, itunes, spotify, dreamweaver, iphoto... pretty much anything other than finder. I looked in activity monitor and don't see anything out of the oridinary. Anyone else having this issue?

An easier way to make a bootable USB installer is to use Apple's Recovery Disk Assistant.

But that won't contain the full installer, just a copy of your recovery partition. To reinstall from this would require a redownload. We want to avoid that. So a bootable usb installer (one which contains the full installer) is better.

A alternative way to make one (which will contain the full installer) is to use Diskmaker X which you can get at http://liondiskmaker.com

Diskmaker X (Use to be Lion Diskmaker) is a great app, and very easy to use. Simply download the full installer from the mac app store (under your purchase tab); run the Diskmaker X app, and follow the prompts.

(FYI you need an 8GB flash drive, they are pretty cheap now.)

Magic Mouse Solution

Got this issue since first Mavericks release. For me only helps rebooting MBA 2013. So annoying....

I searched the Apple support site and found the perfect solution -
Zap the PRAM -

1) Shutdown the Mac
2) Locate the keys Option, Command, P, & R.
3) Turn on the Mac
4) Hold keys down until the Mac restarts and you hear the startup sound for 2nd
time, let go the keys then.

Everything works perfectly again, yay!

Now why has Apple corrupted this feature in this update without remedy?

Hope this helps. :)

Hey Guys,

Found something odd after I updated to OSX 10.9.2 this evening. If you look in the Updates section in the App Store, I see the update installed twice:

I'm not sure if this is due to a messed up installation or what. The only thing I did, was I initially selected to "not restart." So it downloaded the update, and then I chose to install it a few hours later after work.

Once I updated it, I noticed there were 2 listings in the screenshot above. Did something get messed up?

Thanks in advance for all the time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

You didn't mess anything up.

I've had that too, and eventually the right themselves and the dups disappear. Eventually. Happened on two of the four systems I use.

My cMBP doesn't enter sleep mode either. Looks like they got rid of that "feature".

In fact, the power button doesn't do much of anything anymore. The box giving you the SLEEP RESTART SHUT DOWN options no longer appears when you press it.

Press and hold the power key for about three seconds and the function option menu comes up.

You're welcome.
