that sucks if they crippled/overlooked that in testing purposely because you're using clam shell...I'm starting to get really annoyed with Apple
This was user error. As betaelmer explained, I had switched to DisplayPort 1.2 on the Dell between 10.9.2 and 10.9.3 and I didn't realize the bandwidth implications. A 4K monitor at 60Hz essentially uses all of the bandwidth of the Thunderbolt bus, so there is not enough remaining for the TBD with it running. I switched back to DsiplayPort 1.1 and all is well.

Can someone confirm, that 4k/60hz works with the 15'' Iris Pro model? Only the 750m model seems to fully support 4k/60hz under 10.9.3 and Windows 8.1. Friend of mine asked me for help to decide which model he should get. 30hz would be a deal breaker for the base model.

Yes, I can confirm that it works. The 15" MBP has Iris Pro, while the 13" does not. The 15" Iris Pro (only) can push out 4k/60hz just fine with the 10.9.3 update.

Mavs completely changed the way Mail handles Gmail and it takes hours for the reindex that change caused to complete. Just launch Mail and leave it on and you should see speeds Mail responsiveness improve after a few hours.

Aslo make sure you have "All Mail" enabled for IMAP in the settings at gmail.com. Previously is was recommended turning this off, but now with Mavs you want it on.

Thanks!

You are correct! I left my iMac sitting for a few hours with the Mail app running and, sure enough, Mail is more responsive now. I guess it just had to do all of that reindexing!

The only anomaly I'm seeing now is how quickly new emails get listed in the inbox when I check Mail. With Mountain Lion, when I clicked "Check Mail", all of the bundle of new incoming email would all appear at the same time. Now, with Mavericks, doing the same thing the emails get listed (somewhat slowly) one at a time. It seems slower, but I'm not sure if it really is slower. With Mountain Lion, there was probably a longer pause (period of nothing obvious happening) before all of the emails appeared. With Mavericks, it might start listing them (one at a time) more quickly. Hard to say.

It's not a problem, it's just different.

Nope - Apple added Exchange support first for iOS, then for MacOS, apparently when you weren't looking.
It's a limitation from Microsoft Exchange, not from Apple. Microsoft previously used MAPI but as of Exchange 2007 they are migrating to EWS. This causes Microsoft Entourage to stop working. You need to install a special update that adds EWS support to Entourage. However, this is only support with Exchange 2007. If you have 2010 you are encouraged to use Outlook for Mac (which only has EWS support). Other clients such as OS X Mail also use EWS to connect to Exchange. Currently the only client not using EWS is Outlook (the Windows version only!) there used to be Evolution but it's development is dead (simply put). Outlook on Windows still uses MAPI.

The use of EWS is the reason why only Exhange 2007 SP1 and upwards are supported (the reason for SP1 is due to some format that is the same in 2007 SP1 and 2010; plain 2007 uses a different one apparently). Exchange 2003 doesn't have EWS.

EWS is for non-mobile clients (desktops & laptops). For mobile clients (smartphones & tablets) they have Exchange ActiveSync which is something completely different. IIRC they came up with EAS first, EWS later. That's why iOS had Exchange support before OS X.

It most definitely does do push.
EWS does support push notifications (see previous EWS link) but it doesn't work reliably: Exchange Server 2010 Push Notifications does not work (kb979563). That's why they came up with streaming notifications in Exchange 2010 SP1. Apple probably wants to or may have to keep support at a certain level where they are unable to implement the changes as of Exchange 2010 SP1. They may also have chosen not to support notifications since it doesn't work all that well.

So saying that Mail most definitely does do push whereas Microsoft clearly tells you that it is unreliable is not a very smart thing to do. The same applies to other clients that use EWS, even the official Microsoft ones.

After updating to 10.9.3 I am finding Safari a lot more responsive then it was with 10.9.2. With 10.9.2. I would get a lot of pauses when loading web pages. Now the pages load pretty much instantly.

EDIT: Given the above, I think it is fair to say that Safari is snappier in 10.9.3 :D

installed 10.9.3 on a 2010 mac pro with sapphire 7950 mac edition and a sharp pn k321. previously with 10.9.2 and activated hidpi modes through quartz debug 1920x1080 hidpi worked good. now after the update i didn't get the five retina modes in display preferences. instead i have a big list of useless resolutions and every other than the native 3840x2160 crashes the system instantly and forces a reboot. now i need switchresx to reselect the hidpi mode. previously i also could run a second display from the dvi port, now only crashes.
it ****ed up big time. well it's unsupported so i don't have a valid reason to complain. stay on 10.9.2 for now if you have a similar setup.

It definitely doesn't do push for me! I have the mail.app configured to check for messages "Automatically". I have an Exchange Server provided by my Office 365 Developer account.

OSX Mavericks mail.app receives mail when it decides to check and can be up to a 30 seconds to a minute after my iPad and Android devices get the push notification. Sometimes it can seem to happen at the same time but not very often.

Apple hasn't licensed and implemented ActiveSync that I'm aware of. I just read that Microsoft won't license it to anything but mobile devices so it's really not Apples fault, but that could be misinformation. Without it you can't do push unless you use IMAP.

FWIW: Outlook 2011 for Mac doesn't do push either.

Correct. iOS uses active sync and push. Mail.app uses EWS and polls for new mail.

As stated, MS only licence active sync for mobile.

It puts an installer in your Applications folder for you to run at your leisure.

So when I download Mavericks does it begin to install automatically or does it put a .dmg file on the desktop for me to open and begin at my leisure?

If download from the App Store, then it puts it in your /Applications folder, however install starts without user required.

To clarify the above, the Installer launches automatically but nothing happens without user intervention. It's just an app and you can quit it to run at a later time if you're not ready for the upgrade.

My goldfish died...more fuel for the fire.

HAHAHA! A smartass reply but funny none the less.

That settles it, I'm gonna sit back a bit longer and let this one play out. :p

I doubt what happened the OP is happening to a majority of people. I applied 10.9.3 to my iMac which has a Time Machine backup attached to the computer and all my backups are intact. If you are concerned about something like this might happen to you, simply eject and unplug the Time Machine backup hard drive before you download and install 10.9.3.

----------

… and lost all Time Machine backups on my external hard drive. Odd.

Have you checked your hard drive for the possibility that the drive directory might be damaged and needs to be repaired with something like DiskWarrior. I had something like this happen to one of my external hard drives and it was due to the directory being damaged for some reason.

I take back what I said earlier. Mail in Mavericks is still a bit lethargic. Particularly when dealing with gmail messages. They don't delete immediately with the first press of the delete key (or mouse click on the delete button). Very weird and slow.

Other than that, Mavericks is cruising along fine on my iMac.

WOW, I just discovered that a TON of my archived email had VANISHED within Mavericks' Mail app. As mentioned earlier, I didn't install Mavericks until 10.9.3 was released. Mail had been lethargic since then. About an hour ago, I started poking around in some of my archived mailboxes (I've got several dozen of them) and, while I could see the headers in those mailboxes, all of the emails in them were BLANK. Completely blank, no To field, no subject field and no body. WTF?!

The first thing I tried to do was rebuild the mailboxes. MISTAKE. That made the entire mailbox disappear (all the ones that I tried to rebuild).

A little web research revealed that I needed to go into ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/ and delete all files that started with "Envelope Index" and then restart Mail. I did that and Mail acted as if I was using it for the first time and said it would import the mailboxes. In the process, it said there was about 35,000 emails to import. When it was finished, a bunch of my mailboxes were still missing but at least the archived ones that remained had mail in them that I could actually open (they didn't open as blank).

I turned to the backup I made on Friday before installing Mavericks. I copied over the backup's Mail folder (~/Library/) and replaced the one on my boot drive with the backup. I again deleted the "Envelope Index" files, rebooted the computer, and ran Mail again. This time during the import process Mail said it was importing about 75,000 emails! Much better! And, sure enough, when I ran Mail, all of my original archived mailboxes are back AND I can actually open and read the mail that's in them.

So, in a nutshell, installing Mavericks (and my subsequent attempts to rebuild my Mailboxes) resulted in about 40,000 emails getting lost! If not for my good backup practices, they would have been gone for good!

The web (particularly Apple's support forums) are FILLED with stories similar to mine. How on earth could this kind of crap happen?! I avoided Mavericks for MONTHS because of all of the reported problems with Mail. I figured by 10.9.3 Apple would have worked out the bugs. Boy, was I wrong.

I'm going to be keeping a close eye on how Mail works for the next couple of days. If I see the slightest bit of continued problems, I am going to dump Mavericks and do a restore from my SuperDuper backup of Mountain Lion.

And, BTW, the reimport of my many mailboxes seems to have fixed the lethargic performance of Mavericks Mail. At least there's that!

everything seems to work great so far with the update but I am getting this issue in chrome, after a page loads it will do this, a refresh fixes it. Seems to do it more with facebook.
