Do you know what an OS is for? It's so the third parties can write apps for a common system that interfaces with hardware. Sure it would be nice for Apple to keep things compatible 100% of the time but it's up to the developers to update their apps. Its not Apple's job to find all incompatibilities and change the OS to accommodate thousands of apps. It's up to the developer to find incompatibilities and accommodate it to ONE common OS.

Do you know what an API is?

I think the new version of iTunes 11.1 has totally broken podcasts. For some reason even though a podcast has been marked as played and Ive deleted it. each time it rechecks for new eps it redownloads the latest one of EVERY podcast ive subscribed to as if its brand new. Its entirely missing the fact its set as played and that i've since deleted it. They also added some new cloud icon next to each ep and when click it it asks you if you want to DL the entire back catalog for that show. They also shuffled around the podcast settings a bit. Seems like something got busted when they did that.

Edit: Nevermind. The issue was that the update overrode my "Automatically Download" setting to All instead of Most Recent. I feel quite dumb.

Clearly you don't. Whether it is Public or Private Frameworks Apple and then NeXT has never made it a policy to accommodate the whims of present app developers needs as they modernize and move forward their OS.

Certain developing houses have always received special early releases before the first public beta. It is always clear to the developer(s) when frameworks are removed and/or replaced with new ones that they get on board or extend their own code base to maintain legacy interaces.

The point of Frameworks is for any application to leverage first the OS Frameworks and where they are removed or have never existed include their own additional Frameworks to keep their application working.

Consistently, it has been proven in Software Engineering that relying on legacy frameworks is a dead end road.

This tops the record for # of developer previews right? Other OSX versions have not had nearly as many developer previews...

The longer they hold it back, the more substantial the update will be. :)

– Haswell (all-day battery life)
– Intel Iris Pro 5200 (double gfx power)
– Thunderbolt 2 (4K monitor support)
– USB 3.1 (10 GBit/s)
– SSD (700 MB/s)
– DDR 4 SDRAMs
– WiFi 802.11ac

The new MBPs will be incredibly fast. :D

If you try to do some research you will see that the Haswell processors don't support DDR4, and the same applies to USB 3.1 (no support in the chipset).

Probably it will happen in Broadwell or Skylake in worst case scenario.

Unless you want them to the hold back for another 12 months you wont see that technologies included.

Awesome. I'll check it out when I come back home. Of course some would argue it's not apples problem :)

I don't think is anybody's fault. Mavericks is just a beta software. Microsoft doesn't need to concentrate on this until Mavericks is finally released.

Since Mavericks does not come with great cosmetic changes, but "under-the-hood" improvements, I guess Apple wants to polish it as much as they can.

ah, so use xtrafinder? Or forklift, or any of the dozen tab finder utilities out there?

Maverics finder allows you to drag and drop tags between the finder windows and pull them out so you can easily create a side by side tab view

So, in other words, NO, Mavericks does NOT support dual-pane and forces users to open multiple windows to do something that should be simpler. After all, OSX is supposed to just work. I've never understood why they make moving files more complex than it needs to be. Once you've used dual-pane in something like Xtrafinder, you NEVER EVER want to go back to the default finder.

549MB for iMac Late 2009
I think also has some speed improvements, am I wrong?

Actually we can't. The next one we get will be GM since they need around 3 weeks between GM and the release like Lion and ML.

ML was two weeks. They could squeeze in one more:

Preview 9, Sept. 30
GM, Oct. 15 (rumored Apple Event date.)
Release last week of October

Shouldn't we be getting iTunes 11.1 today (Tuesday) ready for tomorrow's iOS 7 release? Cause you know, iOS 7 isn't compatible with earlier versions.

I'm sure it's been brought to attention already, but I noticed "iTunes" has added "Limit Ad Tracking" as an option in "Store Preferences".

been using mavericks on all my machines all summer with no real problems.

i just wonder which dock/menu bar behaviour with multiple monitors they will settle on for the final release

i have to re-learn with each dev-update how to move dock/menu bar/new windows from each app around monitors

all of them have been fine. just wondering which behaviour they will settle on

Well if it is the last day of October yeah. I don't think we'll get a new one.

Weirdly I've used many dual-pane finder replacements, and prefer Mavericks finder. You dont need to open multiple windows, just open multiple tabs to your destinations, and then drag into the tabs. It eliminates the chance of a mouse slip and moving things where you didnt intend (in say a highly populated list view), works very well.

That's strange. Must be for iTunes Radio ads. But what exactly are they tracking? Ads based on your music library? You IP address for ad conversions?

Maybe. I don't think that it would be so confusing that it would prohibit them from updating them both on the same day. I imagine most people will sidestep iTunes with an OTA update anyway. Anyone know what they've done in previous years?

It's not Apple's job to make sure other's software works.

It ****ing is! That's exactly where you are dead wrong!

They change the OS to how they want, then others fix their software to work with it. It's the same with Windows, so don't get your panties in a wad.

That's apparently what Apple does - and is free to do so - but apparently you are not in the software engineering domain (well, you're just a fanboi, aren't you... what the **** do you know... it "just works for you"): otherwise you'd known about the importance of keeping the API and semantics thereof stable! Just as on Windows (which is sometimes even infamous for keeping backwards compatibility).

Does anyone know if Mavericks enables TRIM support for non-Apple SSDs?
Will we still have to rely on TRIM Enabler in the future? It's kind of a dumb, consumer-punishing decision by Apple...
