Allowing me to activate app expose FROM mission control, and showing me the windows that are in other desktops would pretty much solve my main issues with Mission Control. The ability to actually name desktops would be nice as well. Before anyone tells me to provide Apple with feedback, I already have. I really hope everyone that has a problem with mission control has.

And which beta OS is ok to use in any critical production environment exactly?

I think the point he was trying to make (be it lacking in nuance) is expecting that maybe at this stage the number of parts broken would have reduced greatly unless of course the release is going to be August/September or that the build provided is 1-2 weeks older than the latest code.

The listed bugs aren't even 1/50th of the entire bug list. And yet the DP is pretty stable. I have been using it for 2 days now on my MBP. Yes it's a beta and there are many issues, but for a DP 3-4 months away from release, it's working pretty well. And I don't think ML DP's are any different than any other OS X DP's I've used.

Why are you worried?

And also, I've been running Windows 8 Consumer Preview for a while and everything I've found are fails.

Mission Control is not suitable for me, Im just too much used to Expose and I tried to leave it, unfortunately Mission Control just isnt that what I like..

But there is much more, Lion was for me quite laggy even on top notch (laptop) hardware so Im not into it that much.. I at least home ML wont be that laggy and they take their time to make it snappy enough like Snow Leopard is..

Iwe'll call it Windows 8 for PC while we'll be focussing our energy and time on tablet users".

It's not about tablets, it's about Windows Phone.

They're revving up to take a third or more of the phone installs within five years. They did this years ago with Internet Explorer, going from nothing to smashing Netscape. Having 90% of the desktop computer market is a very powerful marketing tool.

The speed increase over lion is worth it alone, for me.

Is ML that much faster? If so heck yeah upgrade. Lion pages RAM in background apps a little too much for my liking. I just hope Apple irons out the bugs. I still feel Lion is not stable enough.

----------

Will ML fix the multiple display issue with Mission Control?

Does it strike anyone else as odd that you can't drag an app from say Desktop 1 Display 1 to Desktop 2 Display 2? Or even Desktop 1 Display 2. I thought I was able to do that in Spaces in SL.

I find it counter-intuitive. What's interesting is MC lets you drag the window there but then it snaps back. Unfinished feature?

I'm hoping I can use Airplay through Parallels now. Currently I just get a large green square on my TV

iMessage/Notifications/Performance

A lot of people have listed iMessage as being really great, but I find it annoying. Every time a message comes in, my iPad and iPhone chime - with 2 or three convos going on at a time, it sounds like I am playing a video game at my desk with my MBP, iPad, and iPhone all chiming away with each message...

Notifications is VERY nice - I like seeing 'what I missed' when I step out for an hour, etc. - but with everything synching via iCloud, it is sort of redundant. I hope this is opened up for debs - OmniFocus would rock in Notifications.

As far as performance - it seems snappier - I am running a 2011 15" MBP 2.4 i7 with dual Thunderbolt monitors daisy-chained off my closed MBP and things really pop - especially restarting.

My observations. That bug list scared me away from going DP3 though :)

Green Zoom Button Behavior

Option in System Preferences to set Green Zoom button to Window Maximize - (Window fills screen except for Dock). As it stands now it is up to each developer how this function works therefore the behavior is very inconsistent.
Second most frequent complaint I receive from Windows switchers.

NO! Absolutely not!

I have a 27" monitor, when I hit the green button I do not want to lose everything else on my screen, I only want to see all the content. If you want that feature then press alt while clicking the circle and you will get the app to go full screen

Better ACD support?!

Hey guys, since everyone is bickering about Spaces/MC I just want better External Display support! Especially for full screen apps! Just to put iTunes full-screen on my laptop without it 'greying' out the ACD! Better full-screen/clamshell and mirroring!

I am getting worry about this OS X...will there be more features before it comes out? It looks like Apple is only giving us 30 new features instead of usual 200 new features like in the previous release of OS X.

Lion then had about 200 bad new features. So I'm more than willing to wait for Mac OS 10.9. I'm only hoping that 10.7 has 1 or 2 actually useful featuress in that30.

Are you kidding me? Both full screen mode and resize anywhere are completely optional. You may never go full screen or keep resizing from the bottom right if you want.

Fullscreen (or "fullest teen" as my iPhone wanted it) would sometimes be desirable - when? When working with multiple screens ... which is precisely the time it doesn't work. Other than that I have -never- understood anyone wanting to maximise anything ever, and would far rather have toolbar widget back.

Resize anywhere introduced a seriously annoying threshold on background clicks. Again, never a maximise fan, more of a multitasker, now working with 3 screens happily in windows 7. With Lion you have to click at least a few centimetres outside a window to get to one behind, which annoyed me so often in the two weeks I used Lion ... couldn't just ignore the feature unfortunately.

But of course, all that is the way of the future, so a lot of us are stuck in the past. And we like it there :).

For me fullscreen is actually most interesting feature of new OSX. I find it much more efficient than "normal" fullscreen mode on same screen. In fact its so useful that apps which do fullscreen in old fashioned way drive me crazy. Ive got two virtual machines running constantly in fullscreen modes, and sometimes use another fullscreen for iphoto or safari, that way i can change between VMs just by swiping or pressing ctrl + arrow.

Im using ML DP1 and DP2 since their debuts on my workstation and havent found problems with them (hmmm, iTunes sync with my ipada and iPhone drives me insine, but dont remember how it work on Lion, to blame ML for it).

Another thing really big in ML is how it works on OSX86 systems. OSX was never before so fast and stable on PC systems before ML, and now basically it works out-of-box on such computer. Before it took hours to setup OSX86 to even run, now it takes 5 minutes to install bootloader and OSX works perfectly with all PC drivers working, etc. Maybe Apple is going to release PC version of their OS, maybe not now yet, but 10.9 Pink Panther? who knows :)

Mountain Lion needs an overhaul

Ok, here are my complaints. I've been using all previews of Mountain Lion consistently (and Lion as well) since upgrading from Snow Leopard.

Apple needs to get rid of the weird naming nomenclature, and stick to things that are simple and to the point. I know that because of a french national executive (no longer at apple I hear), Apple started added french naming like Bonjour and Expose, etc. But the trend is to go with simplicity, and to the point names. Things like "Word" (from microsoft), or "Notes" or "Reminders" or "Contacts" are in the right direction. Expose? What is that? Finder? Is that a search feature? No. it is a file browser. Maybe call it file cabinet. And what is it with the i in front of everything? Just call it Phone not iPhone. Mac, not iMac. iPhoto? what the hell? iMovie? Why not iContacts instead of Contacts. It is a confusing mess. Remove the i, stick to simple names. And why the name Spotlight? Should it be called Finder? Or Searcher?

The Magic Trackpad is horrible. Can you imagine trying to click using that thing? You will get carpel tunnel syndrome. Try clicking near the bottom and compare the pressure trying to click near the top (unfortunately, the menu bar options are near the top of the screen, so you will need to click a lot in that area). It is like 1000 times difference in pressure needed to click. And click and drag is a pain on that. There is also NO option to use double tap and drag. You must use force and click on it.

WPA doesn't work when sharing your ethernet on Wi-Fi for your iPhone to connect. The feature is to allow your Mac to become a hotspot. They got rid of WEP in mountain lion. That is stupid. What about people with old equipment? Maybe Apple wants people to keep upgrading hardware, but some old equipment just can't be upgraded. Does that mean no mountain lion upgrade for them?

Launchpad is mostly unused. Why? Because it is a second step (find icon on dock, click on icon) away from the desktop or from the dock. The dock contains a shortcut to your app. Launchpad is essentially that. What do they need to do? Make it so that if you move your cursor down towards the bottom, the whole launchpad slides up, instead of one line of the dock you can have a bunch of fast app launching. If that thing (launch pad icons) are not right on the desktop, it will never be used. Or make it so that launchpad is the default desktop on the background, and click on something brings up the regular desktop. And why the duplication? The deskop you can have folders, and launch pad you can have folders. A confusing mess. Perhaps shortcut and real files needs to be merged, using one interface.

Why is there no defragmenter? Or a way to organize stuff on the harddrive? Yes, it is a little low level, but this is needed. Even if some tool is available that does this in the background, a graphical representation of the files spread is useful for those that know these kind of things.

I would gripe more, but now struggle with flash videos crashing the DP1 and DP2. I reboot 10 times a day because of this. But since it is beta, I won't gripe too much.

Not everything has to make instant sense to someone who has never ever sat in front of OS X before.

It has to do with copyright, brand names and so on.

The trackpad hangs on a hinge on the top part, which makes it easier to click the further away you are from it. Compare it to pushing a door open close to the hinges versus close to the door handle.

It is possible to click on the bottom part of the trackpad despite the cursor being on the top part of the screen... Otherwise you could just activate tap to click.

And click and drag is a pain on that. There is also NO option to use double tap and drag. You must use force and click on it.
Use one finger to press down on the trackpad, use another to move the file. Use one hand or two, your choice.

Basically, yes. When you buy hardware, you can't expect to have it function with every single new software coming out for all eternity.

Hot corners.

A defragmenter isn't really needed, and Finder works great for organising files.

I'm actually amazed about your lack of knowledge about Apple's computers and OS X, having used it for years, and the fact that you're using DP's...

I use fullscreen all the time with Aperture. It's amazing.

Have you used Apple's 11" and 13" laptops?

There are plenty more beyond what has been reported. The big question is whether the improvements will outweigh the things that some will consider to be a step backwards.

Not a full list by any stretch of the imagination (and they've added features here and there with the newer betas). And it IS worth upgrading just for the speed boost, lion was a dog.

Good afternoon

Does anyone know if this build boots into 32 bit?
Or is it also 64 bit only?
Damn soundcard is 32 bit only

The 2nd beta was already 64 bit only, looks like this one strips out even more 64 bit code.

It is, but DP1 and DP2 were both bootable as 32-bit. I haven't tried DP3 yet, but I would like to know this. My tower's WiFi card is 32-bit only.

DP1 was, DP2 was not (unless it was somehow possible by hacking it).

Will people shut up about Mission Control already. If you have a problem go to apple.com/feedback and stop whining in the forums.

Everyone here already knows whats wrong...doesn't mean we can fix it. So why not whine to those who actually can

Geez.

Exactly. People need to realize that this forum is NOT for people pointing out the mistakes or flaws for products.

It is ONLY for the best parts of the products....anything negative? STOP! Go somewhere else!

Yeah I'd hate the trackpad too if I used it as you describe. I never click near the top of the hinge. I always click on the bottom and only when I first login and the trackpad drivers haven't loaded yet.

Otherwise I never use the mechanical clicker. Activate "Tap to Click" under the Trackpad settings and you'll be much happier.

As far as double tap to drag, it's still there; you just have to dig for it. It's in System Preferences > Universal Access. (See attached)

You can also do a 3 finger drag in Lion now if you wish. I prefer the double tap to drag personally. But you do have some options here...
