Riiiight, just downloaded Photos and I am not smitten.

Basically, after 10 years of organizing all of my photo collection by Events, I can't stand having them suddenly automatically organized by time and place.

There's also just too much white. Even on iOS the background turns to black when you view a photo... and for good reason!

I think that this program needs to bake for a while. I'll see how it develops over time, but I'm very happy with iPhoto ATM.

Just a quick question, my iphoto collection just grew 10 gigs from about 75 to 85. Is there a reason why?

Also, if I'm not going to use Photos, I can safely delete its library photo, yeah?

Gladly, iPhoto is not erased after the OS update. Photos does not support Locations, Apple discontinued the GPS support. Unbelievable!!!!!!
The first time since decades, that I am disappointed by Apple....

GPS support was not disabled. If you right click on a photo and choose "Get Info", location information for that photo will show if it contains it.

Question about Photos

I've always kept my aperture library on a separate disk. Can I do this with Photos, or does it (or a library) need to be in the picture folder to work?

Its a toy app for iPhone snapper. Tim Cook must have smoked some really bad stuff to ditch the iPhone/Aperture combo. Won't bet a dollar that Final Cut will see 2016.

The new bar for successsful Apple apps seems to be, they can be operated by a 3 years old.

Don't be a fool citing Final Cut Pro. It's doing very well and expanding.

retna 5k iMac been waiting for 30 min for photos to open its stuck at getting started page with wheel spinning under get started button

Anyone know how to reverse the order of Photos in the Yosemite app so they descend from most recent year to the earliest year rather than the opposite way around? Cheers.

Does Photos have a black background option? All those images against a white background is hard on the eyes, and looks pretty... cheap.

There doesn't appear to be an actual setting for that, but if you click on the "Edit" button for a photo it switches to a black background.

I had my iPhotos library on a separate HD, when Photos "imported" the iPhotos library it Photos library also remained on the separate HD.

At first I thought they removed the Network Utility application in 10.10.3 . Turns out they ended up moving it from the Mac HD\Applications\Utilities folder to Mac HD\System\Library\CoreServices\Applications .

Network Utility has never been in the Utilities folder from what I can see. I currently have 10.10.2 and it resides in /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications.

iPhoto has never been exactly professional level software either.

Not that I boubt you have the issue you are reporting but have you tried creating a new partition, install 10.10.3 on it, boot to the new partition and don't install anything new and use it. Does the issue still happen? When you are done boot back to your primary partition and delete the other partition that you created.

Well, not quite but it happened on my 13" C2D Macbook and then recently I bought a mid 2012 i5.

Happens with both on clean installs of 10.10.2 upgraded to the betas. The C2D Macbook is long gone but the 2012 continues to have the issue on 10.8.3 GM.

10.10.0/1 was perfect, happened a little in 10.8.2 and then in the first 10.8.3 beta I got so much mouse lag I had to buy a cheap USB mouse. It's gotten better as the beta's have progressed but the issue is still present in the GM.

I'm fairly confident it's an OS bug as I run a pretty basic setup (Safari, iTunes, Pixelmator and Xcode are pretty much all that I have installed.)

Okay. I remember having a WiFi issue with 10.8 which eventually got fixed in a later 10.8 update. I have not seen the WiFi and bluetooth issue on any of my Macs running 10.10.2 and I use both bluetooth and WiFi at the same time. Maybe I am lucky.

Curious as why some have been reporting the issue and others have not as I see people with the same year and hardware spec reporting differences.

I think I am going to update using the 10.10.3 combo update.

Again, I am not doubting that people are having the issue.

The ONLY thing I have seen make any kind of impact is the placement of my iPhone on my desk. If it's on the same side as my Magic Mouse then the lag and disconnects increase. If I move it away, things improve. Thing is I don't have bluetooth enabled on my phone and there are no other bluetooth devices enabled in the house. I use an Apple wired keyboard too.

I don't know much about frequencies but I feel like there's some kind of interference/cross talk going on which is why I've been using ethernet instead of wifi as well just to keep things running smoothly.

I used to be in the belief that many reported bugs were down to user error/3rd party software, especially seeing as there is such a limited number of SKUS but now I'm not so sure.

The only unusual thing I'm doing hardware wise is that I have twin SSD's...one running in the optical bay, but it's a separate Win8 install on that.

Apples list of disappointments keeps growing::mad::mad:
- killing of Aperture
- making an iphone (6) that keeps slipping out ones hand
- putting the on/off button (iPhone 6) in a stupid place (how many times have you shut your phone unintentionally just because the button is placed where you would naturally hold the phone?)
- And the biggest idiot design mistake off them all: a €2600/$2800 laptop without the ability to lock it down!!!

- You can still use Aperture if you purchased it. It not going to just delete itself. Plus there will be extensions for Photos.
- My iPhone never slipped out of my hand
- You are definitely holding your it wrong. The on/off button is on the upper right side of the phone. How are you accidentally pressing it? I can not mimic what you are doing even for left handed holding. The way you are holding it is unnatural.

I'm sorry, you were wide open for a reply and I couldn't help myself :D

Has anyone noticed a improvement in memory use?

Yes, and the display looks different (below). After a few hours like this I would have had about 6GB used under 10.10.2 rather than the 3.58GB shown now.

Operationally, it does not seem to matter though.

Interesting. I use a Apple wireless mouse and Apple wireless trackpad. My iPhone 5 does not seem to effect anything even if it is right next to the trackpad and mouse.

Is the new Photo's app really that resource intensive? Uses 90% of the CPU of my 2015 MBP and 50% CPU of my 2013 iMac.

Under 10.10.2 my memory usage shows 15.34GB used with 16GB physical RAM. Never saw swap space rise above 0GB. Interesting to see what the numbers look like for me with 10.10.3 installed. Never had an issue just curious.

Is anyone taking the plunge from 10.9.5 to this update? I'm on the fence.

I think the only way you will find out is to install 10.10.3 . If you want to be safe create a new partition and install 10.10.3 on it, boot to 10.10.3 and test drive it. When you are done, boot back to 10.9.5 and delete the new partition. Probably the best way to try it without committing to using it right away.

Just installed Photos and I am trying to import my iPhoto library but doesn't give me that option.
Also I save all my images on a library located on a different hard drive from my system folder. It seems that it doesn't give me that option to chose a different location inside the Photos preferences.

Lost here if anybody can help.
I hope Apple did not removed these options. That would suck.
