The comparisons to windows 95 are idiotic enough, but bringing up DOS is hard to even believe.

I don't think it's hard to believe at all. Maybe you've never looked at MS-Dos before? I'll attach a picture of MS-Dos and Window98 and you'll see they're both pretty "flat" looking. Obviously, they don't look exactly like Yosemite, but it's pretty easy to see the more "flat" look of them compared to '90s XP, Windows7 and OSX's various AQUA incarnations.

In response to nonsense speculating about what SJ would or would not have done, it's a perfectly appropriate reply.

No, it isn't. You can speculate all day on here.

Making unsupported claims about other people's opinion of OSX direction and whether they're leaving the platform isn't an opinion.

Of course it's an opinion. Go look up the definition.

For a response to a "Steve would have..." post, his comment was dead on. As far I'm concerned those posts are borderline trolling.

And for the record I love the flat look including the stoplight buttons, I'm glad to see the pointless gaudy "jolly rancher" look go away in favor of something simpler.

It's obvious you like the new look with your anger outbursts and flaming on here. But your assertion of "trolling" is ridiculous. If anything, short flame bursts are closer to "trolling" than people giving reasons why they don't like something. You don't have to agree with anyone including me, but you don't have to flip out either.

At the end of the day if it puts off potential new costumers to Apple by its look and feel Apple will change things. we shall also see what hardened users think on its release to the masses and its uptake. I wonder what it will look like on all those screens in the Apple shop's. At the end of the day Apple wants to increase its market share not decrease it or have anything that will potentially do that.

Must have done market research on it!

I like most of the new features just things have become the 1960's Austin Powers look baby. the brightest colours in the Crayon's box "loud". have a workaround for that hide the Dock :D

can we have a compromise the new look but with a 3D dock. :)

Anyone who says "Steve would have never..." needs to repeat after me.

"Steve Jobs is dead. He will not be coming back to life. At this point, it doesn't matter what he would have done, or wouldn't have done. We should be discussing the merits or demerits of something based on itself, not what one (dead) guy might or might not have done. "

I think analyzing a company based on past behavior versus current behavior is perfectly valid. Whether it's due to someone retiring or dying, it really doesn't matter. The fact is that Apple nearly ran itself into the ground after they booted Steve out the first time and some fear it may do the same without him now due to changes that are veering from the course correction Steve laid into the Starship Enterprise (oh wait that only looks like an Apple Store!) True, speculating what he would have liked or not liked is harder to do than than examining the practices he put into place in terms of business operation versus the present. But yes, it DOES matter if Apple starts going back to old habits instead of following a path of success that Steve clearly laid out. You need new somewhat innovative products. You need to not alienate your user base by changing everything overnight just for the hell of it. In other words, OS X's appearance varied very little while Steve was there and one has to wonder if that wasn't by design. The moment he dies, BAM they're almost immediately changing the LOOK of iOS and now OS X. It wasn't popular with iOS and Apple ignores that and rolls full steam ahead with making EVERYTHING look like it was designed by kids (note the crayons in the color picking palette now).

In other words, I think people have a right to be concerned with the "new" direction of Apple. Changing window decorations to FLAT colors is not "innovative" in my opinion. Change just for change's sake is not a good thing. I've seen many reviews of iOS and Android devices that talk about "dated looks" and what not and I can't help but think Apple is letting this "fashion whining" cause changes that are merely surface deep instead of new features that would actually be useful. OS X is already the best looking OS out there. Screwing with that look puts that statement at risk, IMO. Whether someone believes it's 0.1% or 30%, the fact is it's clear they're ARE alienating current customers under some impression that new window decorations will somehow win new customers? I don't think window decorations are what drew people to OS X in the first place, but change enough things people love and they will eventually rebel. It's Apple total disinterest in what their customers think that has NOT changed since Steve has departed and that's the one thing I think Steve did wrong. There are areas Apple could account for customer preference (e.g. in the preference panes) without stifling innovation. Steve was over-controlling and thus if they want a new look, fine, but don't kill the old look when you don't have to. GIVE US SOME CHOICES FOR ONCE APPLE. Nothing could be a bigger "innovation" for the company itself than to stop stifling user's choices.

OS X varied little because Steve Jobs stopped caring about OS X shortly after the next cash cow came in. IPod touch started it, iPhone continued it, and iPad was the final nail.

Wake from sleep issues

Anyone having wake from sleep issues with the upgrade to DP5? If my rMBP sleeps for an extended amount of time (several hrs - overnight), it will hang at the login screen. I won't be able to enter a password. Only a Force Shutdown (hold down Power button for 3-4s) and restart sorts it.

I love Yosemite, it has been great for me. I have had one bug since release though, if I turn on Bluetooth on my retina MBP, my wifi download internet speed slows to a crawl. My down speed goes down from 120Mbps to 0.8Mbps. It's been happening since DP1. Already filed a radar on it but alas no change. I'm sure they'll get it fixed before public release though.

i'm having this same exact problem on my Late 2013 13" rMBP. didn't have the problem with dp1, dp2, dp3, or dp4.

Is the latest developer beta stable? I'm considering to install it on my Mac Mini (the newest model). I won't do it on my main Mac though, too risky.

Also, if I do install it on my Mini, does it wipe my harddrive or will it keep everything on there as it is?

A) I've been using it as my main OS since DP3, so I think so.
B) Only if you do a fresh install. You can upgrade and your files won't disappear.

DP5 has new volume and brightness HUDs, and they look terrible!

EDIT: Added Dark Mode screenshot

Add transparency to windows and remove it from HUD elements that are typically shown on top of content.

Seriously, who came up with this bull ****?
It's even more horrible on iOS since the screen is affected by it even more than the bigger Mac screens, however I would have hoped they'd reverse this on iOS and just not touch the Mac with this idiocy.
Too bad.
