Why does the light bulb in the Energy Saver icon look like it's wearing a girdle?

What type of light bulb is that supposed to be, anyway? What kind of light bulb glows yellow anymore? Come on, Apple! :/

Does this beta allow us to send Text Messages? For some reason Beta 4 didn't let me.

It was enabled in DP4 or earlier. You NEED to also be running iOS8 in order to get everything all activated. I believe handoff is needed to get this to work.

I'm hoping they fix the issues with BluRay ripping and trancoding. None of my BluRay rippers like MakeMKV work and some of my trancoders like Elgato turbo.264HD do not work in DP1-4.

DP5 has new volume and brightness HUDs, and they look terrible!

EDIT: Added Dark Mode screenshot

Agreed. Terrible. Blends in completely on gray windows, too. Also, changing volume doesn't make little "bleep" sounds (for me at least) anymore, so no idea how loud or soft i'm actually making it.

How do I enable Handoff?

I've ticked the box in Settings on Yosemite and it's enabled on my iPhone too.

I've sent a text message to myself as a test but it didn't appear on my Mac.

That's an LED lightbulb

The earliest OS X versions used an incandescent bulb, I believe, and the most recent releases used a CFL bulb for the icon, so Apple is just keeping up with the latest in lighting tech :)

Wow if that is what bothers you then that says a a lot, you probably think your ice cream is too cold too right.

System Preferences has an improved look:

"improved"

----------

Apple needs to add the transparency effect. As it is, it obscures whatever is sitting behind it - inconsistent with the rest of the transparency stuff.

No, there is already too much transparency - if you have two things on top of each other you just get a mess now!

I guess, the best thing to do is file a bug report with apple at this stage.

i've sorted out. In my cause it was because of a stupid new app, lights out, which was suppose to alternate (like flux) over the day with light and dark theme. The stupid app never worked, I deleted, but somehow the deamon continued to work... Ive re-installed the app, killed the deamon (which is something started by light...), removed the app from the preferences pane, restarted and voila! :) it's sorted out

thanks anyway ;)

I don't get it. The volume and brightness overlays (!) are pretty much the only place where transparency makes sense, and there they have none? Or is it just not visible in the screenshot?

For the first time, custom sounds from ~/Library/Sounds folder show in "System Preferences" (must be .wav format). That's never happened before (use that for Mail and other core app sounds mod's).

Opening files in various app's is finally quick(er).

EDIT: Apparently this is not new, but for some reason after many years working/developing in OS X, it's new for me, so, go me! lol :)

I've been placing custom system sounds to /Library/Sounds instead and they've always showed up in System Preferences. Mine are in AIFF format.
