These updates are too minimal, I'll just wait for the GM now... It's so stable already.

your install may have a bug. Mine still are

This sucks considering every other thing is more or less rounded. Feels crass to me.

Baklava, do you have dark mode enabled? Check it without dark mode and report, please? I think this may just be about dark mode.

They are for me. In dark mode as well.

Here the Brightness indicator with the options Normal, Reduce transparency and Increase contrast for the Dark and Normal mode. (From left to right)

For me it seems to be a bug in DP7. The indicators should always be round.

… I'm not so keen on the transparencies though - perhaps its me but they look a bit more see thru this time

Maybe there's more dimension to your desktop and greater emphasis on your content. Maybe not. Either way, your Mac experience is unlike anyone else's. What's not to like?

Usually GM is released before public release, most often it's the same build but developers get it beforehand to fully flesh out their OS X apps.

Not developers alone …

… 8 previews is ridiculous

Eight may be more than 'usual' for an Apple operating system upgrade, but this is not a simple upgrade.

As some of Apple's timeless and essential human interface guidelines have been abandoned by Apple, the company needs more than the usual amount of guidance (through feedback).

I don't understand how everyone can post screenshots and icons. I thought this was under NDA?

nda only applies to developers …

Such agreements are more widely applicable.

… one of the reasons OS X is so potent: there are myriad ways to accomplish a task, which gives users the ability adapt the OS to their needs. In this way it is the antithesis of iOS, which is very rigid and controlling. I hope more OS X bleeds into iOS.

+1

I hate the parts of Yosemite that are reduced and more rigid.

Craig Federighi has oversight for both OSX and iOS now. Rene Ritchie claims he's much more of an engineering geek than Scott Forstall was. …

Got a link handy? Thanks.

New "cancel" icon in Time Machine.

… much too large for the icons around it. Looks horrible.…

I think that a stop icon would be more appropriate.

app store link

i'm sure the real reason they removed software update in the menu bar was now ensuring if you want to see software updates, you have to traverse the featured page of the app store first, better implicit marketing and app advertising

but anyways not that anyone actually used the menu item to begin with

you can set up automatic app updates and not bother with the app store at all.

Finder crashing when pasting to Downloads

Not sure if this is related to VMWare Fusion 7, but all of a sudden I cannot paste any files into my Downloads folder. If I try, Finder crashes and when I go back to the Downloads folder I have a zero-byte version of the file I tried to paste.

Also, when I try to delete the zero-byte file it tells me that it's in use by another application. WTF?

I uninstalled Fusion (dragged app to Trash) and followed the manual removal process from VMware and rebooted. Still no joy, I can't paste anything into Downloads now.

Downloads was shared by Fusion with my VM, so I'm thinking it's not coincidence that it's borked now.

Anyone else seeing this or have any ideas on where to look to fix this?

Thanks!

This is a known bug and many people have already filed a bug report. On Apple's developer forums there is a thread about it. I don't know if it has anything to do with VMWare Fusion 7. I also have it on my Mac. I will ask others in the developer forums if they also have VMware Fusion installed..

Thank you Petvas! I didn't find anything Googling about it. I won't worry about it too much then, I can work around the issue for now. I can also copy from command line if I have to and that works fine.

Maybe I haven't tried it in DP7 since I got Fusion 7 so it may be totally unrelated.

I just noticed when I clicked "About This Mac" that it says OS X Yosemite Beta 10.10 which is strange since that should only show for public beta testers and not developers like me. This happened after I updated to DP7 on Tuesday.

I have checked my current build which is 14A343f which is currently Developer Preview 7 and not the second public beta build that is currently 14A329r.

Have Apple added this on purpose or have something crossed each other?

Can someone archive and upload iTunes.app? It's been known a time or two to contain unreleased device artwork, and I'd like to check it. If you want to so it yourself, you can open the artwork resource files with ThemePark and go through all of the images. Never mind. I found nothing notable.
