On every version of Yosemite I tried, I get my desktop flashing between my wallpaper and black, and the dock is missing. Only way to fix it is to disable dashboard. That is not a good option since I use it a lot. Works fine on another account. Has this happened to anyone and if so, is it fixed now?

not modernism

They said modern, not modernist.

In this case modern simply means in the present as opposed to the past, nothing more.

In any case, not much point in quibbling over semantics.

Apple tends to set trends, not follow them.

Sometimes, but there are exceptions. OSX is late to the "flat" party.

The other more applicable definition is "characterized by or using the most up-to-date techniques, ideas, or equipment."

That doesn't really apply in the case of aesthetic and stylistic things. This article specifically referred to the look as being modern.

i have 8.0.2 IOS and OSX YOSEMITE BETA.

and I always see all my SMS's on both devices. (weather i'm sending on my laptop or on my phone. both will update w/e I send)

I along as i'm I have Imessage on, and the person im sending to has imessage on also.

He's talking about non-iMessage SMS's. This was disengaged during development, now you can receive texts from non-iPhone devices on your Mac and iPad. They'll simply be green instead of iMessage blue. You also need iOS 8.1 beta and Yosemite GM. Using both flawlessly.

Odd behaviour of Software update.
I waited a bit before I wanted to restart through notifications, but it disappeared, then pushed the button on update in Appstore, said "Available Updates have changed" in a box, when I pushed the "Show Details" button I got what you see down below in a screen shot, did this a few times and each and every time I get one more entry in "Updates installed...."

Bug

Doing it manually now.

This happened to me with the iTunes 12 beta. Kept popping up as a download so I kept trying to download it. Had like 6 iTunes 12 updates in my installed updates page. The only thing I could figure out was I was stuck at a hotel for 5 weeks on business with an insanely slow connection. Not sure what happened but it did eventually download. Weird!

You are pulling my words out of context in an effort to create thought fragments. Convenient though that may be for you, it is not a good way to discuss anything. Instead of trying to deconstruct what I said, you should start with my actual argument. It is that the words "flat" and "modern" are being connected arbitrarily. Sometimes semantics actually matter, such as when you are writing, reading, speaking, or listening.

Yes, for instance I can point out one design flaw in Yosemite's Safari that is driving me up a wall.

Clicking the New Tab button in the top right corner, has no visual animation or feedback whatsoever. Compare to Mavericks, where the button depresses and the tab instantly opens. The effect (or lack there of) in Yosemite is that Safari did not respond to the click, until a split second later when the tab does in fact open.

Exactly. If the function isn't designed well, no amount of eyewash is going to make if feel any better.

Beta 4 The Majic Number to Bomb

Well, i installed this latest Beta 'update' and my my current version MacBook Pro quits on just about all 3rd party apps like SuperDuper and launchbar. I can't even make adjustments in System Preferences without a crash.

my question is....am I alone with this mess or have others experienced such?

kext-dev-mode = 1

I note with some surprise that the option to load unsigned or user modified kexts is still available in the GM beta using a boot arg kext-dev-mode = 1

To allow this with a GM makes a mockery of all the work Apple is putting into its security, but good news for the hackers..., ie if it makes it into a general release.

Virtual Machines suck now

DP 1-8 ran flawlessly on my 5,3. Around DP 5 I bought an SSD, then I bumped up ram to 8gb. Parallels ran Win 8, Mint 17, and Win 7 like they was native! Then I install the 'Gold Master' and VMs are not even usable, they are intolerably slow. BT and WiFi may or may not work after a boot, just never know...and to add insult to injury the translucency appears to be reduced. I wish I'd made an image before I upgraded. I hope the lousy vm performance isn't something Apple 'fixed' for a final release? I'll go back to Mavericks...or maybe DP8!

It's been working every which way for me, for about a week. It just suddenly started working one day having fiddled with the settings and disconnected/reconnected from WiFi on each device. If you Mac is compatible, you'll probably find it just suddenly pops into life each day.

That aside, make sure each device is logged into the same WiFi network and that bluetooth is ON with each device as well. Lots of people are missing that out and it's important because...that's how it works.

It works for me. iOS 8.0.2 and Yosemite Public Beta 3 (now 4). My Mac appears straight away in Airdrop. Though I appreciate me just announcing that it works for me is not helpful, I just thought you were making a definitive statement which I cared to disprove.

I'm on 8.0.2 and the Yosemite GM. Airdrop doesn't work in either direction for me. It may show up intermittently, but it doesn't persist.

Disagree. They're just saying that flat design is a current (hence "modern" or of or relating to the present or recent times) trend.

How many posts have you made quibbling over one single word? Maybe it's time to get on with your life.

You seem compelled to respond, so maybe you should take your own advice instead of giving it to others.

I count two posts of mine about That Word before this one, nine of yours.

But sure, I'm the one compelled to respond. Feel free to keep posting about it. Cheers.

Can anyone confirm whether the Adobe Creative Suite 6 Master Collection is working fine?

I refused to switch to Adobe's Cloud Crap. Thus, I can only migrate to Yosemite if CS6 is working flawlessly.

You'll be happy to hear that CS6 actually works better on Yosemite rather than CC.

I used Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere Pro CS6 for a while and then I upgraded to CC and now I got crappy performance compared to CS6.

That's good news! How do you notice/measure the poor performance in CC?

Well for Photoshop, I noticed that when I worked with pictures usually larger than 1024x1024 (Which I use to make icons), it lags and stutters when you zoom, it loads forever when I erase something, opening a large image takes too much time than it usually should.

With Premiere I got fed up with the slow processing and similar slow video editing processes that was not present in CS6.

I tried to fix the issues with editing how much memory each app was going to use but nothing helps so I'm currently using CS6 for some of my most used Adobe apps.

Yes it is possible - no need for clean install. I have done this with a few releases in the past. The only difference I see is that the AppStore is offering beta updates when they become available, but I also get all the 'regular' updates.

Thank you so much for the reply! Going to update to Yosemite now (-:

I haven't had the time to read through the entire forum, but if this is the 'release version' then I am not sure whether I will be updating. A couple of months ago, I put an 840 EVO into my MBP 15 2011, with the intention of breathing some new life into it, perhaps it is just hte fact that I only have 4GB of RAM, but everything is VERY slow in Yosemite, boots are horrendous and there are shutdown bugs up the wazoo.

Is it just so optimised for the newer systems, or am I missing something out somewhere along the lines?

I hope this gets rid of the flickering pink and green squares I have on my iMac screen. They've been there since the first public beta release, and I've reported it through the beta program each time a new release has come out. It appears to be a graphic card driver problem, as doing a screen shot doesn't capture the anomalies. Running Mavericks doesn't have this problem, so it's clearly software, not hardware related.

Same issues here, mine does it on both my iMac and my attached cinema display

More excited about Windows 10 TP, to be honest. Another Mac OS X release? Meh - big whoop - we KNOW Mac OS X is good, but Win 10 is a HUGE deal for MS, and - imho - more of a deal for them too. :p

I've just downloaded the GM release on my 10.9 system, however when I try to run the installer I get this error..

Please follow the advice in the alert – "Delete this copy of the application, and go to the Purchases page of the Mac App Store to download a new copy.".

Also, use Disk Utility to verify the file system of the startup volume.

Spotlight Suggestions still won't work if primary language and region does not match up (i.e. for Primary lang: English, Region: Germany it cannot be turned on. If you set Primary language to German it works fine). The same problem persists on iOS as well.

If you have access to https://bugreport.apple.com please report this.

hey buddy, thanks!! I was wondering why it wouldn't work. Will report to Apple. *happy*
