Im on a 2011 MBP. You must update your phone to 8.1 Beta and your Mac to GM Candidate 1. There are new options to add devices to continuity.

ok cool. i guess its not on pb and 8. thanks for clarification because i was about to be seriously upset. this machine is still under warranty and yet doesn't get features!

You must install DP7 and then upgrade DP8 and then the GM Candidate.

That was the case a few hours ago.

But things have changed now that a full installer for the GM candidate 1 has been released. You can get a code for it at the mac dev center or ios dev center and redeem it in the mac app store. It is 5.17GB. It can be used as a stand-alone installer to do a clean install of the GM without any previous versions installed first.

Honestly, it's been very stable on my iMac since the last DP. The unstable features were Handoff and Continuity (but they've been removed and can't say if they're back), and as it has always been with OS X, the Messages sync with iOS devices.

At this point it would need a good job of GUI standardization though to fix all these quirks.

Also, I installed cDock and the good ol' 3D Dock, because I can't stand that zombie Dock, you know, the one revived from 2006 ?

On another note, let's hope these new iWork icons in the Trackpad tutorial gives us a hint that we'll finally see an iWork '15 that truly competes against Office...

****since there is no 8.1 thread before you jump down my throat *******I noticed when you first use dictation in ios 8.1 it has its own enabling screen describing what it is and if you want to use it

And just found the thread hahaha ah my bad

And they revealed the release date for OS X Yosemite:

Tuesday, 14th of October 2014.

Have a look at the calendar and the day (Tuesday) in the menu bar.

You're right.

Well, good to know. Thanks!

ditto that. No code showing up on the mac.

I had to restart my iPhone with 8.1 and then it worked. Don't know why.

Hopefully since this is being labeled as a "GM candidate," they are going to work hard to refine the OS significantly between now and the end of October. 1 month left, and there's still a lot of sloppiness to the UI, like this:

I can't get it to work either. When I enable Text Message Forwarding it opens up iMessage, but without a code.

Try enabling it on your iPad using 8.1 by trying to send an sms first then it should bring up a code on your iPhone if you don't have an iPad let me know

Tried that. Rebooted iPhone with 8.1, rMBP with yosemite gm candidate. Can flip the toggle on the phone, but it tells me to enter the code and no code appears on mac.

Also tried disabling and reenabling iMessage on iPhone. No good.

Update: disabling the iCloud account in the iMessage preference pane, then re-enabling, seems to have solved it.

Seriously? After this has been mentioned about 1,000 times after every beta, you still haven't figured it out. I'm going to let you noodle this one out yourself. Only because it has been asked and answered again and again and again.

Bottom line is that it does work. You're just not taking the time to make it so.

Woah there, sorry if I offended you and others. I don't check every thread that comes up, only rarely (and when I do, I typically read all of it). Must've missed this one. Anyways, you're right, didn't do a quick search beforehand, and I've figured it out.

(For those of you wondering, System Preferences -> Sound, you'll find it there)

On Public beta 4

Dock's transparency is gone.

Notifications transparency is gone.

UPDATE: Sorry required one more restart for the transparency to show up.

Much faster

Every day tasks (opening applications, switching between finder windows, safari, mail) - are all much quicker in operation.

I wondered when they would sort out the memory load usage etc. and it looks like this is pretty much there. I guess one more tweak at public release and we'll have it.

I haven't done any tests yet, but so far the difference between this and the last DP is night and day.

Finder redraw is still terrible compared to Mavericks. Finder cannot maintain 60 FPS while resizing windows in any view option. It's very choppy and close to 30 fps.

Am I the only one stuck in the HTML5-player of Youtube?

I have ClickToFlash installed, the latest Flash player, but I cannot have the Quicktime player open YT movies in Safari. The only way to get it working is to set the Useragent in Safari to 7.1 instead of 8.0....

Seriously? What's that!?

It really worries me that this is Golden Master and Time Machine is still in a mess. There are UI elements that are not Retina-ready, the whole thing freezes up when switching between folders, in one case TM isn't even allowing me to go back through Documents even though it's been included in my back ups. I'm getting weird distortion of the background image effects. How has this not been sorted yet?

I don't know what you mean...my installation has no UI sloppiness. I assumed it was always some sort of 'subtractive design'. ;)
