Well, I received my first Mac 2 days ago, a Macbook Pro 2.4, 2GB RAM, 200GB HDD 5400rpm, matte screen, spanish keyboard. It came one day earlier, luckily I checked the tracking info on time! It took 2 days to ship and 2 days to get to Boston with standard shipping.

First of all I'm now proud to say I've tried both Mac and Windows and absolutely adore the Mac experience. The software is so useful and nice :)

The screen is very very nice, matte is perfect for me because glossy used to give me a little bit of headache. The programs are easy to install and always work. The cameras and phones I've connected are detected and work perfectly so I really must say Mac has won a faithful customer.

The only problem I have is with Excel 2008 (ha...) because when I open certain sheets and click the + green button, Excel crashed and I can only press the power button and restart the computer... I've read many people have this problem.. Hope they fix it soon.

I absolutely love the trackpad, very very useful. I used to hate trackpads and always use a mouse 'til now!

I'm also thinking about buying 4GB of RAM from crucial or newegg (I think it's 78$) which would also be a major improvement, specially for running MatLab :)

Well, that's all, just happy :)

Cool, congrats! Welcome to the world of Mac...You'll never go back, trust me. I got hooked and will never go back. I get excited just telling people about all the great parts of a Mac to give you an idea of how much of a fanboy I've become!:D

But all I can say is enjoy and Congrats!;)

Microsoft released a fix for Office 2008 last week that's supposed to primarily fix stability issues (as well as security vulnerabilities). Install that and see if it helps.

I've been using my new Penryn 15" with glossy screen for nearly a week now (moving up from a still-working-perfect PowerBook 12" G4 @ 1GHz) and I have to say that I'm loving every minute.

Firstly, without re-igniting the whole matte vs glossy debate, I'm very happy with my choice of screen and have had no issues whatsoever. In fact the increased screen brightness over my previous PowerBook is fantastic. One of the features I'm loving is the one that the 12" PB never had (but should have done): the ambient light sensor. I find this fantastic to use, and very cool too. A great addition.

Multi-touch - I agree with some that pinch zoom/rotate are ever-so-slightly awkward, although they work well enough and I absolutely adore the 3-finger swipe and 2-finger scroll gestures (none of which I had on my 12"). So time-saving and intuitive are these gestures that I've yet to 'plug in' my Bluetooth mouse!

Speed ad noise - this thing screams compared with my 12" G4 (obviously). I would say that on an everyday idling use perspective, there is the slightest hint of a background noise over the 12", although the HD seems to click less and I've not yet managed to get the higher fan to kick in at all - even with tonnes of applications open and doing lots of iMovie/iDVD (which used to set the 12" into overdrive!). Neither does it get very hot at all - warm at best, even after prolonged use. I have to say, iPhoto performance is fantastic too, even on my many thousands of photos.

I bought Office 2008 (I have v.X on the 12") and it is quite nice, although I'm very disappointed with the performance of those apps. Like, for instance sometimes there's some typing lag when using Word. Come on Microsoft!

So I have stuck with the stock 2GB RAM and I can't say that I'm in too much of a hurry to get those additional gigs yet. I've not yet seen the beachball once, so I'm going to save the swap for a nice little upgrade in a couple of years.

The only problem I've had is that I've downloaded the iPhone SDK twice (yes all 2GB!) and both times the disc image has failed to open (error -4960 ??) but I guess that's a question for another forum...

Absolutely thrilled to bits with this machine. Still love the design. Glad I didn't extend the waiting game, whatever may come in June/July, etc. And I don't really notice it being much bigger or heavier than my 12" PB - yet I notice the slightly slimmer profile (1" thick, compared with 1.2) :)

i like my stock entry penryn macbook pro
only thing is, i wouldve preferred the new keyboard type, i even bought an apple keyboard cause t love it so much

I actually have the update installed but I still have the same problem. It just happens with this one document, created in my Windows XP computer. Every time I open it with Excel 2008 and click the + symbol it crashes. I've "solved" the problem by copying the info into a new sheet, now it opens and closes nice and smooth.

even so Office is the slowest program on my Mac right now, even more than MatLab which runs very nice :)

Hey that's 2 of us!!!! I'm also very happy with the new machine, powerful and good-looking :) Very stable and so far it's running at low temperatures, so very good!!
Maybe you're right and I'm never going back!!

it has been little over a week with this new MBP and it's so awesome.
I got glossy screen and it is wonderful and multitouch is very useful.
I just hope that Apple not introducing whole new MBP in June... ;)

Received my MBP last Thursday after 2 lonh weeks of waiting and problems with the transport company.

The mbp, runs quite cool, harddrive, cpu, around 38º (not gaiming, web browsing, videos, hd movies.).

Its fast, well built, beeing my first mac, took some getting used to leopard, but it work really well.

MBp first boot was almost instant, looked like it was in sleep mode.

Has to be the fastest booting and shutting down OS ever.

Very pleased, well build, light, the matte screen is a little washed (not very vivid colors) but still is a extremely nice.

Is silent, fans at 2000 rpm

Never liked touch pads, but still haven't pus a mouse on my mbp, this touch pad work really nice !!

Hate the enter key, beeing the key you use most and the smallest (Portuguese's layout ).

Hey congrats to you and everyone else above.

You might also consider Final Cut Pro or Express as well. I've heard their excellent video editing programs. My friend and his dad use pro and they create very professional-like videos.

Yes!! I've had the same thought about the ENTER key but now that I've been using it for some days I'm really used to it and hardly notice its size (I have a spanish keyboard)!
Temperature is indeed very cool, I think that's a big improvement of the 45nm processors.
Battery time is excellent.
I personally love the matte screen, colors are good, text is crisp clear and I work perfectly well near my sunny window.

Congratulations and welcome to the Mac world :)
