I'm amazed at the mouth-foaming for a minor speed bump. This is a laptop that hasn't been updated in some time, features the same trackpad as before despite addition of the Multitouch features, the same low resolution screen on the 15.4" model etc etc.
The trackpad is a case in point. I'm assuming the MacBook Air got a physically larger trackpad for a reason - to make better use of Multi-touch features - so why should buyers/users of Apple's most expensive laptop have to put up with a smaller, older piece of technology? At this kind of money?? Only the naive would see this as anything other than a fudge; a real gimmick.
It has negatives because it's expensive. You can pick up laptops with better specs for less. With the advent of hacked Mac OS running on PC hardware, perhaps its time Apple dropped the snobbishness and made their updates a bit more worthwhile.
My own personal gripe is that the 15.4" model has the laughably low screen resolution of 1440x900. For a laptop aimed at 'professionals' like myself it's a joke for Photoshop and other apps that have many palettes open at once. It also has the feeling of slipping well behind in terms of technolocy, and the best use of the technology. To put this in perspective you can get 15.4" laptops with 1920x1200 resolutions. A bit much for me, but the trend is very much about upping the working dpi, a trend seemingly lost on Apple.
Given the fanfair for the MacBook AirToy, it's hard to believe all their Pro users get is a speed bump. Where's the magic Apple?
about the virusses:
hackers don't make virusses for us mac os X users since we are a relative small group.
if u are using xp with bootcamp u'll still get virusses
If Apple rises the dpi on screens, they have to find a way to keep their OS usable. Do the math: You currently have 900 vertical lines. If you go to 1050 vertical lines, this means, that appr. 14% of your menu bar size will be lost (i.e. smaller, less readable, smaller icons). Same applies to any Application button, icons and so on. Have you seen XP on an old screen lately? I can tell you, it's looking rather funny with those big buttons in 1024x768 (the res I use for Parallels).
i ordered a 2.5 BTO on tuesday and it shipped on the 29th...its currently in alaska
My MBP I ordered on Friday has been updated from "Not Yet Shipped," to "Prepared for Shipping!" Hopefully it will ship out in the morning. Anyone that ordered theirs late in the week have it ship yet?

Pc's will get the job done but just not the way I want it to. I've used a pc for 15+ years and I've only had 3 virus but the last 8 years I havnt had a virus. All you have to do is just use mozilla and dont download warez or pr0n.
I've switched to macs just 3 years ago with a powerbook g4 17" last rev.
ive got a pc...built it myself.never blue screened.beein using it for the past 2 years.and i didnt use top of the line stuff...pentium d 940 3.2ghz,not core 2 duo...1gb ram,not 2gb or 4gb....intel 965 chipset...gefore 7600gt..200gb HDD....WINDOWS XP.......but, it works,well.
i think if you maintain a pc properly itll work properly.once you treat it harshly, then itll be harsh back.
I ordered mine on Tuesday and still appears as "Not yet shipped"What were the original dates for yours to be shipped?? Mine says March 6-11 and should arrive on March 10-18. Almost a month after I ordered (and payed) for it!!!! It sucks, I'm never buying on the Store Online again...
I got expedited shipping and my estimated shipping dates were March 3-5. Did you make any modifications to yours or get the 17" model? I've heard the 17" takes longer to ship and the more mods the longer til they ship. The only thing I changed in mine was the screen to glossy.

All resolutions are adjustable. I personally love having my resolution set to max settings - I can fit more information on the screen. Should those of us with good eyesight be forced to suffer lower resolution because a size 14 font will look "embarrassingly small?" I think not. Compared to the HD display on the 17" MBP, icon resolution on the 15" MBP looks "embarrassingly large."
anyway, i had a pro before this one, and the heat issue has seriously been address by apple. The amount of heat that comes off it when im rendering video with premiere pro is negligable.
my last pro got pretty hot. this one not at all. thats all i have to say.
You could fry an egg on the old machines!
I am guessing Apple is just all messed up on shipping. They probably didn't expect to get as many orders as they did right away. Other than BTO mods there isn't an obvious reason for the delays. I will probably go to the Apple store for my next mac purchase.
Ordered the base 15/2.4 MBP this morning. It's pretty dumb that simply wanting the glossy screen pushes the order back. With expedited shipping my estimated delivery is March 5-10. Hopefully sooner than later.
I found that my shipping time doubled from the norm because adding the remote apparently makes it a 'custom' order. I would have thought they could just chuck a remote in at a local depot.
