Do they have different 4S and 4 versions? The mute switch positioning seems to have very little wiggle room which means I doubt it will work on the old AT&T iPhone 4.

Looks like the 4S will stick around for the next generation as the entry level iPhone. This isn't a shocker but there is no way Apple would release an accessory for a device they are discontinuing in a month.

why in the hot hell would anyone think they would discontinue the 4s, just because the 5 is coming out?

The iPhone 4S and 4 arent going anywhere anytime soon.

Besides, most of use won't be eligible to get "The New iPhone" since we can't upgrade until 4-6 months before the last 2 year agreement we signed for the 4S ends.

Hadn't thought of it, but a red iPhone would be eye-catching!

Selling special edition colored iPhones with partial proceeds going to a charity fund would've certainly been an option (red for AIDS, green for rain forest, yellow for cancer, etc.).

I would've bought a blue one, but I wouldn't know what charity it could support...

Why on earth are they still selling these at all?

These bumpers scratch up / buff up all the metal band and ruin it, everyone knows this, apple knows this.

I got a replacement iPhone 4 because of the free one they sent out scratched up my device.

No, although they did revise them sometime after the 4S came out to fit both, so the original bumpers are a little different than the ones available now.

I really like this black/red combination. My two most favorite colors combined combined on the most favorite iTool.

On a side note: I don't like the new red iPad3 cover; that looks cheap

No more 4/4s things being bought by me. New phone waiting...!~

What I want to know is how Apple managed to bring this to market without a single rumor about it leaking beforehand. I count on MacRumors to give me advanced knowledge of this sort of stuff. What if I went out and bought a different color bumper three weeks ago? I could have waited for the red one if these rumor sites did their jobs and cracked down on the early supply chain leaks and spy photos of the red bumper designs.

This is important stuff guys -- but you have to break the story before Apple releases the product.

Now what would be really interesting if the opening on the bottom of the bumper for the dock connector was the new smaller-sized opening.

I got my bumper case free (only use it when hiking, no signal problems on my iPhone 4). I don’t like cases—my iPhone has been tough all by itself and cases make a small device bulkier. But in situations where a case is called for—like navigating while hiking, or passing the phone around to share with a group of klutzy strangers—I REALLY like the bumper design.

I’ll buy one for my iPhone 7 (not 6, because the CDMA iPhone 4 was the 5th model, complete with different antenna and button placements). And I was JUST looking at cheaply-made, junky non-Apple red bumpers yesterday and liking the look. Clearly Apple decided to rush to meet my need! (But I like the cheap 3rd-party one even better, color-wise: red plastic but black rubber.)

This.

I just got a new case last week and now they make a bumper in my favorite color!!

Are these in stores yet? I might go over to grand central store this week and pick one up.

Hah. Not a charity, but another environmental concern: how about blue for remembering we all need clean drinking water .

Hydrofracking  for shale gas is an ongoing controversy, with potential water contamination among the major concerns.

Update: (But I like the red one, might get one to switch off from my green and white setup now)

I think it's a little late in the cycle life to release this.

If any iPhone is discontinued during this cycle, it will be the 3GS.

The 4 and 4S will most likely stick around for at least another year, so there is still plenty of time to continue selling bumpers for them.

Agreed. My iPhone 4 has been left scarred by the free bumper I was given way back when. Surprised you were able to get a replacement due to it, though. I wonder what my chances are two years down the road...

Don't see the logic. Tons of bumpers/casings get released every day and they don't get reported. Apple releases a red version of an existing product and it makes front page news?

What makes this so special?

Erectile disfunction... :p

I got mine replaced around the 8 or 9 month mark, told them I was very careful with my iPhone and I even had the Zagg Invisible shield on it etc and yet the free bumper (Apple Branded Bumper) I was shocked to find out scratched up the sides.

Told them I only took the bumper off as I had been on an Apple forum and noticed someone had mentioned the same thing and when I checked mine I went straight to the store.

Got a genius appointment and they didn't even hesitate just said we will be happy to replace your device.

Also worth noting (PRODUCT) RED is not a charity. They are a company that makes a profit, and give some of the money to AIDS research
Sorry, (RED) is not a for-profit corporation by IRS guidelines.

(RED) is a 501(c)(3), a division of The ONE Campaign, another 501(c)(3) organization. It would be categorized as a private foundation rather than a public charity.

The main difference between public charities and private foundations is that the former disperses money directly to charitable activities whereas the latter disperses grants to other charitable organizations.
