People that got the update: what did you do? Did you turn on Wi Fi and BT and put the Airtag next to the iPhone?

This is pretty lit! I'm seeing kind of poor battery life on my launch day AirTags (down to 50% of battery already) and I assume this is going to help fix it!
One of my 4 AirTags battery drained to around 75%. It updated to 276 in the last 24 hours and it is back to around 100% again.

What they call "anti-stalking" I call "pro-thief".
If someone steals my bag I want the tracking to keep working, and I don't want the tag warning the thief that a tag is present, perhaps in a hard to find pocket or even stuffed into the lining. When you buy a product it should be on your side.

I haven't read all the comments but in case anyone wonders:
I just checked the firmware of my Airtag and it was still on 1.0.225 even though the first build of 1.0.276 apparently came out a couple of weeks ago.

I took my keychain and placed it next to my iPhone, which was on my charger and voilà, it updated right away. So, if you wanna make sure to get the new build, maybe take your Airtag and place it next to the iPhone while it's plugged in. Maybe that's the trick.

Yep. Me too. None of mine have updated or my friends either.
Oh hello, just re-checked mine and they have both updated. Not even with the phone on the charger or placed remotely close!.. I was beginning to think you needed an iPhone model with the ultra wideband suppport to make it happen.

Firmware updates for Apple devices are all over the bloody place, its the software update page for the iPhone and iPad separately for each device, home app for homepod, watch app for that, AirPods its just random for that update as is AirTags.

Please Apple, for every device connected to your account why can't it all be listed under the software updates page on the iPhone/iPad where it shows the software version and a simple check all at once as well as individually like app updates, would make updates so much easier when done manually.

Mine has not updated, but my wife's has. Its in the Belkin keyring holder. Anyone think I should remove it?

Mine has updated and so far Safari seems snappier.
So far this update has killed the battery life of my AirTags. Instead of replacing the batteries every 12 months, I now have to replace them every 11 months. Forced obsolescence.

I bet the new AirTags get 13 months of battery life.

Got one to update. Here is what I did, not sure if it had any affect though. I "Removed" and re-added to phone and then played a sound. It updated shortly thereafter. 2 more to go.

Like most others in this thread I never got the last update. Mine’s updated now though. Didn’t do anything special, keychain is where it always is and my iPhone is even low on battery.
