Oh FFS, Apple. Again?!

There are bugs that require fire drill releases, but at least have the decency to note what they are, allow users to decide for themselves whether to update, and increment the version number enough so that people aren't confused.
So you want users to decide whether or not to keep bug ridden software?
Its these types of stupid decisions that resulted in incidents like the WannaCry malware attack.

It's time to design and write iTunes completely from scratch because as of now it is just a big mess which isn't very intuitive as the rest of the software from Apple.

Thumbs up x 1000!!! They just kept adding rooms to the Apple "media house" without a blueprint for growth or whether it should all still be under a single "tunes" banner. It is very convoluted and very un-Apple. Hoping they dynamite it and start fresh.

I'm hoping apple tackels iTunes and HIFI audio at the Keynote next month. Right now Tidal has my money, but if either Spotify and/or apple come to the game with higher quality audio....

Though in saying that, iTunes / AW needs a relaunch , the UI is not user friendly in my opinion , this is something apple exceled in the past, so hopefully a new look iTunes next month

I've been in situations where I had to run certain versions of software due to bugs in the latest version.

Such a hassle... Come on, it's not a big deal.

And still no resume playback for iTunes, which was available on SoundJam MP 2.5.3, from which iTunes was developed in 2001.

Do people still use iTunes

Apple should just make a simple no frills program without all the bloat and bugs.
They have that. You're looking at quicktime.app

No frills at all, but also no capabilities to manage jack all.

iTunes offers nothing over the bare minimum to decently manage a large collection of media, in fact I think it misses some core features still, but it's the best you can get, especially if you live in the Apple ecosystem.

I do believe though that over time I'll have to find an alternative, if just because I think Apple will listen to these complaints and castrate one of the most powerful pieces of software I use and rely on.

If you want something light (and - for my needs - underpowered) there are SO MANY OPTIONS.

Glassed Silver:win

I think this fixes an issue with Airplay. When I updated to the latest (before this) I started to get random crashes when I tried to click off my Airplay speakers. It wasn't always happening but frequent enough to be annoying. Usually my iTunes is rock solid stable.

They actually DO increment the version number. It can been seen in full under iTunes>About iTunes. There would be operational risks in repeating a version number, of course. The problem is the last qualifier is truncated in the Mac App Store display.
The version released last week is 12.6.1.25. I don't have any information about the version referenced on this page. (Has it been withdrawn?)

Yeah... Knowing Apple, the written from scratch iTunes would miss 90% of its features and would only play Apple Music.
No Thanks. ;)
Well, one should think that a billion dollar company could do this properly. But I get your point, every app they have rewritten so far was a disappointment in terms of features...

Agree with the first and last statement, don't really get the middle one; Can you give a good reason why you wouldn't like to update? I understand bad internet connection, but that's hardly a problem nowadays, is it?
And how does Apple deprive you of the right to make the decision yourself whether to update or not?

That's exactly what I fear will happen!
We've seen it at great length with Photos, Final Cut, etc.
I wouldn't want to wait another year just to get back where we were feature-wise...
