Safari 15 (15612.1.29.41.4, 15612) on macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 (19H1417) still has the same design as Safari 14 🙃

Does the SideBar go “all the way to the top”? Or can you keep the SideBar open on the Start Page and then navigate away to another page and have it not be there? That’s the behavior in Safari 14.

MBP 13" Intel / 16GB RAM / BigSir 11.6 / Safari 15.0

I'll just chime in that I wish I hadn't updated to this. Has froze twice in the past hour and very laggy: I hit cmd-tab to open a new tab and nothing happens... hit it a few more times. Wait three seconds. Then I have 4 new tabs open. Common sites I visit aren't loading right away as they did before. Is there some cache I can empty to try to speed things up? (beyond Privacy > manage website data).

Updated to Safari 15 on my M1 desktop yesterday , running BigSur 11.6 (installed last week). When I try to add a bookmark to a Youtube video, Safari crashes. If I have a couple of tabs open, one with a Youtube video and one that is not Youtube, say a news article and I try to bookmark the news article, Safari crashes. If I open the news article in a new window with out a Youtube video in a second tab, I can bookmark the news article. I can save Youtube videos in Firefox and Chrome, and Safari on my iPad.

Phone conversation with Apple Support, so Apple knows about this. They suggested using recovery mode to reinstall my OS, which I decided not to do because I have heard that this can sometimes take hours. I have some workarounds, so I can live with this until the new OS is released or there is another Big Sur update
Thanks for the update. I am experiencing much the same as you.

Thanks for the reply. Safari crashed yesterday when I was trying to bookmark a National Weather Service interactive display for various weather information. Very graphic intensive, but no Youtube. Also if I access a page with embedded Youtube videos and try to bookmark it, Safari will sometimes, but non always crash.

anyone know how to make the tabs appear below the favorite toolbar on my safari? THIS IS TERRIBLE> I bounce between tabs like mad, I dont need to click on favorites 1000x as much. now I have to go above the favorites to hit tabs, and risk hitting the favorites and changing it all up.

(im a day trader, and I need these tabs below the favs.

This is one of those regressions we’re not getting back.

Man, this is horrible.

  1. All my tabs disappeared, each window is now a single-tab "start page"
  2. UI looks exactly the same
  3. Preferences look exactly the same
  4. command-clicking on a link opens the page in a background tab, but then key-commanding to the page makes the page disappear - it's immediately replaced with a "start page"
  5. I needed to click an activation link from Mail - it simply opened a "start page" in Safari. I had to click, copy, open safari, and paste for the link to work
Significant data loss if I can't get any of my tabs back. I guess that'll show me. Don't know what people use if they don't rely on tabs remaining open across sessions; bookmarks feel like a different modality to me.

EDIT: I actually have a situation now where I have two Safari windows that are mirroring tab behavior. Same tabs in each window - I didn't set it up that way. If I open a tab in window A, it also opens in window B. If I close a tab in window A, it also closes in window B.

Man, looks like I dodged a bullet. I just tried installing the latest Big Sur update without realizing Safari 15 had been snuck in there, luckily the update failed to complete on my 2015 MacBook Pro. I HATE Apple's atrocious redesigns in recent years, "new" window dressing that screws with workflows and muscle memory. These changes are not intended to improve usability. Apple may make money hand over fist for years to come, but the golden age of their design prowess is long gone.

Yes. Apparently Apple doesn't plan to push it out again through normal channels (where it was broken to begin with) . I finally relented as I couldn't get anything productive done. And downloaded the Safari reinstall directly from their server (I hope).
