Guys if you don't like Safari don't use it. Apple is too controlling. Things are beautiful on the other side, using FireFox and Brave (Chrome without Google surveillance code) both of which are open source which is so much better for you on the privacy side and they let you do much more than Safari with extensions. Most problems I have with websites are Safari and its webkit engine anyway.

If you are looking for webkit engine and something that gives the same cool and quite performance of Safari, there is a new browser in beta called Orion , its webkit based, get updates for older MacOS versions unlike Safari, and allows use of Firefox and Chrome extensions! Signup and you will receive an invitation link in some days.

Why what happened?

FOSS FTW!

I have been bitten before.

There are options in the browsers under bookmarks where you can book mark ALL opened tabs in each Window. You can save a copy. There is also an export option under File to user with other browsers too.

I like Safari, I hate this update.

My one complaint is...doesn't *dark gray* usually mean something like "inactive"? I'm having trouble figuring out which tab I'm in when I only have 2 or 3 open because I keep thinking the *lighter* colored tab is the active one, not the *darker* one.

Ok, just figured out why I'm so discombobulated.

Actually really stoked on compact tab bar, ever since Firefox sorta removed theirs I felt that browsers and UI devs were moving away from a minimalized workspace.
I was prematurely optimistic and positive. I've been playing around with this for several hours now and...I absolutely loatheeeeeee it. Back to 'fox I go!

Dark gray highlight for active tabs is a terrible idea. It's like I'm in Incognito Mode. Hopefully they will change it in next update or so. I also don't like the Compact mode with disappearing < > buttons that rearrange the icons in toolbar, not to mention that pinned tabs in this mode look more like part of the tools than the actual tabs.

Is it the same on Monterey?

Looking for explanation about why such a bad experience with a mid-2015 MBP? Or is this more to do with the O/S being used.

I have a mid-2015 MBP running Catalina (10.15.7) and so am hesitating. Hopefully I'll manage to secure a new MBP later this year but I will be cascading my MBP to a daughter so concern about this Safari 'upgrade' remains.

Does anyone else experience that opening a new tab doesn't automatically change focus to the URL field?
Also Command-L doesn't seem to work anymore to do the same thing. Or have I missed a setting somewhere?
And I just realized that Command-N doesn't open a new window, but just opens a new tab.

When I toggled full-screen mode off and on again everything's back to normal. Odd…

Double-click titlebar to either zoom or minimalize the app window seems to be broken in the new Safari :-(

I'm not seeing this with Big Sur 11.6. I don't think I have any settings that would affect this. But Safari 15 is doing some horribly wrong things with my windows and tabs so I deeply regret installing it.

My reaction when reverting it back to the old tab bar style and colors off: Oh, that looks bad

What happend? Is Apple not a design company known for good UI? Safari just got worse. Terrible!

Too bad it wasn't released for Mojave which I am still using on my main iMac!

I can't move my pinned tabs, then safari is crashing, cant watch instastory-videos in the browser anymore, they only have sound, restarting hasn't helped - bravo apple

Thats great! Still no fix for iTunes/Music scroll bars not working in View Column mode. You can only move them by dragging. Jump to next page or Jumped to the spot thats clicked does not work in Catalina. I've tested this on iMacs, MacBooks...I've sent feedback to Apple...
