I sure as hell hope the iPhone doesn't violate all of this privacy crap like OS X Safari. OMG. It would be a Big Brother nightmare. I can just see Apple uploading my browsing history and turning it over to Big Brother for "statistics" now. Sheesh. Good thing Bush isn't in office anymore. (note: this thread is not about politics; it is about Safari)

How about a fix for animated gifs. Does anyone else have issues with some sites or forums that have users with avatars with an animated gif? I always have to switch to firefox just to prevent from getting a frozen browser!!!

Yup, same here. I've learned not to even attempt to access two communities I'm a member of because Safari always chokes on the animated gifs. I keep both Safari and Firefox open, and use Firefox for those two comms (and a couple of other sites that Safari still has problems with).

Just got this from my banks website after the update.

'The Internet browser you are using is not supported by Anytime Internet Banking.'

Never happened before with any minor update :(

'The Internet browser you are using is not supported by Anytime Internet Banking.'

If you turn on the Develop menu [Preferences->Advanced], then you'll then see a "User Agent" option in this menu. Choose the "Safari 3.2.3" option, and that will make your Internet Banking site think that you're using Safari 3, and let you in.

:D Thank you.......that worked a treat. Nice little work around that :)

"Clear Recent Searches" doesn't seem to be available anymore (in the top-right search field). It was buggy in previous versions of Safari 4, but now it's just totally gone.

Thanks Apple! Now I have to clear my entire history to clear the searches. How hard is this to do?.....

Safari has been crashing like crazy lately, plus it doesn't help it's running sluggish as ever. I don't want to use Firefox, but until a fix comes out I'm going to have to.

Text to Speech easier now after 4.0.3 update?

1st post so don't slam me if I'm totally wrong here. I know you could always activate text to speech but it was a bit cumbersome, but I noticed after the 4.0.3 update that when I highlight text and right click, it gives a speech option. I tried it on an iMac in the office that was still on 4.0.2 and it didn't give that option. I also see this option in the Mail app now.

Safari hanging up for me

Since I used SU to go to Version 4.0.3 (4531.9), it hangs up all the time. No option for sending a bug report to Apple--just "not responding" in red when I look in the Force Quit window.

This is frustrating, as I have really enjoyed the newer look to Safari, including the "Top Sites" display. Easy and fun. I have never had a stability issue with Apple software until now.

I have a MacBook Pro 2.0 Core Duo w/2GB RAM running Tiger (10.4.11 Build 8S2167). I don't even know what Glim is, let alone have it installed on my machine.

I hope this gets resolved. I prefer to leave beachballs on the beach.

What plugins do you have installed? have you got any enhancements installed? what kinds of software do you have installed?

Apple has really messed things up with safari 4.0.1 and after.... At least for me. Now i have to use FF....

In the little google seach window on the toolbar, clicking the little down triangle no longer offers you the option to delete recent searches. You have to use the reset safari menu.

You complain and yet you provide no information; to what benefit is it to whine on this forum if you don't want help?

Oh sorry didn't mean it that way. From seeing at this thread people are having and also problems that i have. Which are the same as everybody else. Problem with gifs, big loading times etc etc.:)

I don't want to go down the entire list. Suffice it to say that I have not installed anything new recently, have not installed some of the other programs mentioned on this and several other threads I've read, experience the problem when nothing else is running except system essentials, and never, ever had an issue before 4.0.3.

One thing I have been able to replicate, however. If I click on an empty side margin on foxnews.com, that locks up the program 100% of the time--spinning beachball forever.

Please, no snarky comments about foxnews.com. It is just one example. I actually had the same thing happen on MacRumors.com as well, when I accidentally clicked on a sidebar before it loaded in completely.

I don't know if that helps. Certainly if there are merely isolated reports of problems, then each one is probably unique. But if many people are having similar issues, it might be a bug on Apple's end.

BTW, that's why the "me, too" threads actually matter. Yes, they suck for diagnostic purposes, but if there is a huge volume of them they can indicate a bigger issue.

I updated and lost my 1password icon

I cannot customize my Safari toolbar now and it eliminated my 1password Icon which is needed to use the program effectively. Now I customize my toolbar and the next time I load Safari everything I added is gone and there are just a couple of icons I seldom use. I need the 1Password icon and would like not to have to customize each time I load Safari. Help appreciated. Thanks
