Thanks for not ditching us Snow Leopard people yet lol :)

disabled that crap in Chrome and have yet to notice, java's only feature is to give you a virus

Some of us still need it though, so improvements like this are nice to see.

I'm confused... I remember Apple removing Java entirely and I thought they just left it to Oracle to distribute it. I downloaded java from Oracle directly. So what is this and wtf is going on?

Calm down. Apple has and continues to support Java 1.6 for Mac OS X 10.6.8 through Mac OS X 10.8. Oracle supports Java 1.7 on Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8.

I've updated Java & Flash via respective control panels. Still no Safari 6.0.4 update available via the App Store though. I'm using Safari 6.0.3 on ML 10.8.3.

Where is this update coming from ? Running 10.8.4 beta shows Safari 6.0.3

Yeah I'm not seeing it either. Maybe it only shows if you have java installed.

Nope. No Safari update for 10.8.4 beta users. Maybe with the next update.

Found the direct link here http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...fjc8o1lkzs8dcpax9d8gt/Safari6.0.4Mountain.pkg as im also on 10.8.4.

A white list is the perfect way to manage Java usage for those that do need in for certain websites. Nice one.

Except Apple got things backwards. Rather than enable one to manage websites to use Java when the "Allow Java" is ticked, it should be the other way around. If the option is not selected, then we should be able to allow specific websites to use Java anyway, either on a one time basis or permanently. In other words, it should be either always on, or always off, while allowing one to manage exceptions. That way the list remains nice and short and easy to manage.

Right now if you visit a ton of websites with Java, let's say 100 for example, but only want 5-10 to allow it, you have to manually disallow 90 cases rather than simply allowing 5-10 cases. This is the opposite of simplicity and elegance.

Anyone tested it yet to check if latest java works? mine doesn't! java build 1.7.0_21-b12 and safari 6.04

edit: at 04:39 Oslo time it works. Now its a popup asking if i want to run the applet.

edit: again.. Not fully functional using online banking.

Am I the only one who thinks this preference panel sounds decidedly non-Apple like?

What happened to Apple joking about extensive control lists being "puzzle games for the user"?

I understand and appreciate them, and I've had them for awhile using a plugin blocker extension for safari (it gives me controls over flash, silver light, java, HTML 5, and other web features that could be used as potential attack vectors. Not that I care for the protection. I just use it so loading the important parts of websites normally go faster.)

Yeah baby, Snow Leopard still alive.
I think my OS X 10.6 will exist until 2014.
Yeah Safari for Snow Leopard is back from the dead. Now I wonder if Safari for Windows will eventually be resurrected too? With Google forking Chrome with Blink which Opera is also adopting, it's in Apple's best interest to keep WebKit usage up on as many platforms as possible.

To be honest I don't care, all I want is my beloved activity window back!!!

Anyone know if the Java 6 vs Java 7 isssue under Mountain Lion (and maybe others) has been fixed?

I mean this. Java 6 Installs to /system/library/java/javaritualmachines/jdk1.6.jdk (or something like that).
But Java 7 install to to /library/java/...and so on.

So every time I want to execute a Java programm I get the MacOS Message Window saying that Java 6 is not installed. Which it isn't because I installed Java 7.

P.S. I don't know if these paths are correct but there is definitely a discrepancy in where Oracle installs Java 7 and where MacOS looks for it.

Hm, what is the difference between "Allow" and "Allow always", does "Allow" imply "Deny sometimes"? :)

Edit: Ok, nevermind got it, it's right at the bottom of the window, "Allow" (as long as the plugin is up to date).

Anyway, I like the added setting as it allows someone who may depend on the plugin on a single website to effectively disable Java elsewhere.

this looks like something Apple should have always done.

Take action in response for someone else lack of fixing everything.

What else, can they do ?

IE being the worse hit, Microsoft is gonna have to include a per-site basis too.

6.0.4 is constantly crashing for me. Now I need to figure out how to roll back. I'd avoid this upgrade.

Java "Manage Website Settings" Blank

The page is blank and will not allow me to add websites. Attempted to copy and drag however all failed to add websites. Attempted opening a Java required site and still nothing in the window.

How do I enable/add websites?
