So what do you guys think of safar 3 now? Is it worth the install?

If you don't mind being a beta-tester, then go ahead. It crashed on my Mac after very little use, so I'm really not interested in it until they release the final version. I'll stick with the world's best browser, Firefox, instead.

This just appeared for me... I have Safari 3 Beta and 10.4.10 updates installed already. So I guess the Safari 3 Beta is in the regular Software Update lineup now...

I actually haven't had any crashes at all. But remember, it is a beta.

I've actually been able to use this for five minutes without crashing. The old beta was so unstable on my Macbook.

One thing I HATE about Safari 3, that wasn't in Safari 2 with SafariStand, is that it red-underlines (with no suggestions) words after ..., its awful...

That won't happen if you use the real "…" and not just three full stops. On the US and UK keyboards, it's option+; for the real "…".

Hmm...

Hmm…

I don't get any underlining of ellipses. For reference, here is a msipelled word.

EDIT: Oh wait, did you mean only within SafariStand?

No...he means like this (fake ellipsis) versus like, this…you see? (real ellipsis). It's because the spellcheck assumes a space after a period, so the word after the ellipsis gets underlined.

LOL…now if only spellcheck would catch me from typing ellipses when I mean ellipsis.

Oh I usually put spaces after my ellipses… I'm not sure what Wikipedia is saying here?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis#Ellipsis_in_English

Besides, shouldn't the ellipsis symbol not be recognized by Mac OS as three periods, but a single character?

…

The only useful piece of info I got from the Wiki article is that for all intents and purposes, a single ellipsis character (…) is not a sufficient way of typing it in all contexts. Because apparently, in US legal documents, there should be a space between the dots ( . . .).

Strange, but true.

Hmm — I'll go with the em dash until they make up their minds. At least I can remember to space that off correctly…unlike the ellipsis. Wait—now Wikipedia says that I needn't space the em dash off?

It is if you type it in as an ellipsis. I think the spellchecker sets off the word after the triple period because it isn't sure if a spacing/capitalization error has occurred or someone hit the "." key two to many times.

Well I just had my first major crash with OS X Safari 3.02 - after just one hour of use - so it's going to be uninstalled and I'm back onto Firefox again.

The whole concept of a beta is kind of lost on you, isn't it?

I've only had one crash total using the beta. Actually, the program just hung while loading a page and wouldn't allow any input so I had to force quit. That's DARN good for such a new beta.

2 updates improve nothing about stability, u call it beta? whole concept of beta? go around find another beta crashing like this.

Are you kidding? This is one of the most stable beta's of anything I've ever used. It hasn't crashed once on me.

Well that's wonderful that it's not crashing on your computer. But unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that it is crashing on other peoples' computers. And it's not like we're all running strange, unknown hardware to Apple, since we're using Apple computers...

Haha. Of course not. Howerver, 'beta' does not automatically have to mean 'crash'...

I've got 2 Intel Macs and a PPC Mac here, all running it without problems. Therefore it's NOT crashing for everybody, and you should be sending reports to Apple so that they can squash the remaining bugs. Uninstalling it after one crash doesn't help anybody, that was my point.

No, but a lot of us aren't running bizarre add-ons and plug-ins. Many of us believe in running fairly pure, clean systems.

No crashes here.

News Just In...

It has just been confirmed by certain anonymous sources that the final version of Safari 3 will completely eliminate security issues on the user's Windows box, and that prior discussion about Apple's so-called "red box" is partially right. Sources very close to the cross-platform development group have confirmed Safari 3.0 will be a multi-gigabyte download, leading several pundits to conclude Apple may be replacing the user's operating system with Mac OS X Leopard.

Apple officials have, of course, denied these rumors and said the only four platforms Mac OS X is presently being developed for are PPC, Apple x86, AppleTV and, of course, the much-anticipated iPhone.

Following the update to my powerbook, I am no longer able to login under my username. I type the password and it begins to log in and then immediately returns to the login window. I have tried logging in as guest and it is no problem, but my main account just cycles back over and over again???
