No, but a lot of us aren't running bizarre add-ons and plug-ins. Many of us believe in running fairly pure, clean systems.

No crashes here.

Same here. And amazingly, no crashes on Windows either.

Actually, there was one crash on the Mac, but that was using a WebKit nightly released before the beta but with the beta chrome, which probably caused enough conflicts right there to crash it.

I've got 2 Intel Macs and a PPC Mac here, all running it without problems. Therefore it's NOT crashing for everybody, and you should be sending reports to Apple so that they can squash the remaining bugs. Uninstalling it after one crash doesn't help anybody, that was my point.
I use my web browser for productivity reasons, so unfortunately I can't provide my time and resources for bug reporting. Therefore I consider it the best outcome to remove it from my Mac and use a reliable piece of software instead.

Yeah, I'm not using any add-ons or plug-ins either. Go figure.

Much to do about Nothing, or....

A lot has been made in the media about this Safari for windows beta launch being an Apple salvo into Microsoft's market. Somehow I don't think MS is worried.

When asked about the iPhone a few months back Steve Baumer said that windows was on 85% of all the smart phones in the market. And he went on to say that Apple's iPhone had 0% market share. He also said that he would take 85% market share over 0% any day.

The only problem Mr. Baumer is that once the iPhone comes out, your 85% market share will drop faster than your stock's share price. And I'm guessing Apple's market share will go up considerably from 0%.

P.S. Steve (Baumer) Jobs is also accelerating the rate at which he is gaining PC market share, especially in the laptop sector, which is the fastest growing sector of PC sales. You can talk the talk, but you B.S. is about to walk.

PPS, oh yeah, that $10,000 coffee table computer? Great Steve, you'll tens of dozens of them...

Safari 3.0.2b still breaks Transparent Dock and now I have also Photoshop CS 3 not working correctly. Both where working perfectly fine before installing it.

The uninstall doesn't help. The only way I can get these to work normally again is a clean install.

Hopefully it won't break things when it goes full version.

From MacNN:
Apple today released Safari Beta 3.0.2... The update appears as a separate, unique update released alongside Apple's Security Update 2007-006, which will not appear as an available update to Safari Beta 3.0.1 users.

This probably explains why I and others could not apply the Security Update or even see it in Software Update.

Are you kidding? This is one of the most stable beta's of anything I've ever used. It hasn't crashed once on me.

Ditto, no problems at all under OS X on G4 Mini - not a single crash or stumble.

With Beta 3.02 I can now use it with VPC7. I had to uninstall it, re-install and de-click Bonjour Networking. Since it's VPC it's by no means fast, but at least I can test pages in Safari for Windows now.

edit: Now where's the new iMacs, hmmm.

Well that's wonderful that it's not crashing on your computer. But unfortunately that doesn't change the fact that it is crashing on other peoples' computers. And it's not like we're all running strange, unknown hardware to Apple, since we're using Apple computers...

Yes, it's going to crash. It is a beta. The point of it is to find where it's going to crash. You should NOT be using it if you don't want to see any crashes.

Exactly!

Ditto! No add ons or anything on my side.

Yes, this is exactly what you should do. Beta software is not intended for production environments. You are 100% correct in coming to that conclusion.

so, does this piece of crap still disable ichat ?

what a mess !

I honestly think, as usually seems to be a case, that the "OMG Safari 3 beta is crashing and is terrible" is a minority. I bet if we run a poll on this, asking people who have installed Safari 3 how it runs, a majority will say "just fine, thanks!"

Hopefully this fixes the problem where Safari 3 disabled multi-way video chat in iChat. I realize that iChat probably uses WebKit to render text chats, but I honestly can't imagine how it would affect video chat.

For that matter, I can't understand why Apple didn't simply distribute the beta as a self-contained application bundle with the new WebKit included inside. Then it wouldn't interfere with the installed Safari version or any other app, and it wouldn't need an installer or uninstaller. Even the nightly WebKit builds are distributed that way!

Too soon to release a public beta?

I don't think apple should have released this beta to the general public just yet. It is hurting their image and decreasing confidence in their brand. This should have been released to developers first and then to the public. Their own words and overly stated swagger on being more secure are now coming back to bite them.

I am curious how this will affect sales of the iphone since most people will not make the distinction from the beta Safari and the one that is loaded into every iphone. Perhaps marginal at best, but all the geeks that tell the non-geeks whats solid and what's not have to be shaken by this.

This seems to be the sloppiest software release apple has made in over 5 years.

And before I get flamed for stating that Apple over stated its swagger on being more secure- everyone of apple's security holes left the system's open for just as much of an attack as winblows. Not being as targeted is their only saving grace and should not be used as a statement of security. It is easily flipped to say that if you were targeted, they would be able to break in.

Just fine, thanks. Not a single crash. No broked programs. Hunky-freakin'-dory. And I do like being able to move tabs off into new windows. Also, many pages that used to render badly now look great.

For the record, my backup browser is Firefox. I know it has its fans, but to my eye, it is one ugly mo-fo. Pages render well and it's stable, but it sure isn't fun to look at.

Not had any problems on either Windows or Tiger. Maybe I've not used it enough yet. Difficult to happy with it while I can't lock wheel to drag-scroll.

I just rolled back to 2.0.4 the other day I couldn't take it.

Now it seems that most of the issues I was annoyed with are taken care of...

Well alright...
:p :p :p
Here we go again!

If you install the iFox Smooth theme onto Firefox I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

can you close the window - PB G4

The last version i installed, i couldn't close the windows by clicking the red 'x' button in the top left. the only way to close windows was to quit safari. i looked online and some other PB G4 user had the same problem.

Is this fixed yet for all those old PB users??
