This is both a good and bad idea. Some people use different logins for different content providers....
and the same goes for any iOS device which is way more expensive than the Siri Remote? With AppleCare the replacement cost is only $29 or something like that.If you break the remote, you need a new one. Key facts: the remote is made of glass and a new one costs an eye popping $79. You can find victims of this already in several threads.
Not entirely true. I use XFinity and for almost all my content apps on AppleTV I authenticate with XFinity. CNNGo, ESPN, FXNow etc etc. So a single account or multiple accounts (In a content app the user would then select the account from a drop-down) that a user can configure once would definitely help. We already do this with Twitter and Facebook on iOS. I am not sure why this needs be different on tvOS.This is both a good and bad idea. [/QUOTE]I think you've lost some context. The point is the remote app, if it worked, could eat into sales of replacement remotes. Not my claim, I'm just explaining the logic.

Ah, I see the logic in that but I really don't think that's the reason behind Apple not updating the remote app. I think it may have something to do with the current limitation of only one Siri remote that can be paired at a time. A remote app could count as potentially another Siri remote which is not allowed in the current tvOS iteration.
Having said that Apple allows old Apple TV remotes to control the new Apple TV (While the Siri Remote is paired). So potentially the remote app could be allowed as-is to hook up. I am not sure why not but definitely not to earn more money with replacement remotes![]()

This can be too. Apple may be working on a better UI/UX paradigm. If Apple somehow makes text input more efficient then there would be less complaints about the remote app not working. More than simple text input (which is a pain) entering passwords with everyone sitting around is really uncomfortable. The best reason I can think of is that the app couldn't support Siri. Users would keep trying to press the home button, thus backgrounding the app and activating iPhone Siri and not ATV Siri.
Can somebody please explain to me what is so great about using an iPad or iPhone as a remote for the Apple Tv? I just don't get it - why do I want to tie up another device to control another unless that is the only way I can stream audio/video I want to hear?
I have 2 of the new ATV4s and was very annoyed when I found out that my beloved remote app no longer worked, primarily because I used it to control content from my fairly extensive local iTunes library. But then I discovered the Plex app for ATV4, which has a companion iOS app that allows me to use my phone as a remote control for manipulating content from the Plex server, not unlike the Apple remote app. It took a little while to download, install, and populate the Plex server on my MBP, but I'm glad I did.
Granted, this does not solve the other big problem of not being able to use the Apple remote app to key in passwords when setting up the ATV4, but at least it helps.
I still hold out hope that we'll get a new/updated remote app from Apple for the ATV4.

EDIT: Oops, didn't see all the responses from others. But one thing to add: I have been happy to have the Remote app on my Apple Watch because it is always on me (whereas remotes tend to wander). It seems odd that such a useful app for use on Apple's flagship wearable product is not supported on the ATV. Goes against Apple's basic emphasis on cutting friction and making things easier.Uh, because typing in passwords and long strings of text is an enormous pain in the a__. With the Remote app it's as quick as typing a text message on your phone. How's that for an answer?

I would love this option. I have Comcast (sucks) and it is tedious when you have to enter in all your info for EVERY single APP...and it is the more the merrier when ATV forgets that the APP was authenticated, and you have to do it all over again.
Don't hold your breath on a 4K update either. HDMI 1.4 simply doesn't support it.Don't hold your breath on that.

Crazy thought, could we do a petition to Apple to allow bluetooth keyboards or make the app work with it?
Firmware update for 4K than I will upgrade to ATV until than Apple you better have updates for ATV3.

Please sirs, just give me the trailers app back in Canada. That's all I want... shouldn't be too hard. i don't even need a remote app...
We don't want to know about those, kay?..... OP uses new middle-finger emoticon at auto-correct.....Oh my god. I love it! My sediments exactly! Let the madness begin....
No. Read the thread.Am I understanding your argument? Are you suggesting the following?
