So here's something funky: My 2011 17" MBP did a firmware update as part of the beta update. No doubt about it — weird beep, then firmware progress bar, then double restart before finishing the software install.

Same kind of thing here on my early 2013 MBP 13", strange beep, black screen for a few sec...

Yeah, you said that. They have more than one employee, they can do multiple tasks at the same time. They're not picking engineers from the network team to draw emoji.

Given their absolute lack of progress in improving the networking in OS X over the last two major versions, I'd say it's entirely possible they have engineeers working on emojis. I mean, SMB is just as broken in El Capitan as it was in Mavericks. How long does Apple need to fix this?

Nope. NI plug-ins still hanging or crashing Auvaltool here. At least NI sent out an email the other day letting us now they are aware of the issues and are working on it.
My Fast Track C400 (Avid) was just dead silent on the 10.11 GM, no input, no output, completely broken drivers. Haven't tried the new public build but judging from your comments, I don't have high hopes.
The old Mavericks drivers worked alright with Yosemite just after the release, only some minor issues.

FYI: They don't make this unit anymore, but it's got support until 2018.

I'll give the public release a try on a new partition shortly.

its still in public beta....???

u know if u go to the app store, it looks like it was released to the public..

Nope. Still no audio. Gotta wait for new drivers probably.

Some of my safari bookmarks have been moved, if anything my system seems slower than before and sometimes when I click on bookmarks the bookmarks vanish and then click on it again and they re-appear.
Downloaded a video and the icon isn't close to the others, kind of floating by itself
I should have waited before i upgraded as usual.

First Aid doesn't have an option for fixing permissions. I think this is not a good idea. They should have added run Cron instead of taking a repair option away.
Waiting for an El Capitan version of Onyx to come out.

Read up on why Apple changed this. It isn't needed anymore.

I got stuck in the "installing software update" screen after restarting my iMac 5k, the progress bar did moved a tiny bit at the first few seconds, but then it just got frozen, not a millimetre for more than ten minutes.

;)
And if you would just rather give the middle finger emoji back to Apple? :D

Well, thanks to these betas, there's and endless supply of them on my iOS or OS X devices, in all possible colors, so I can give back as many as I want ;)

I don't understand this. El Captian GM was released yesterday to the public. Why is Apple sending updates to the Beta testers still? Why aren't these beta testers using the GM street version?

GM is 10.11, public beta is 10.11.1

I did a clean install with one of the previous builds of the public beta. I'm on a MacBook Pro Retina late 2013 with i7 2,8GHZ, 8 gig ram and the performance is ****. Everything lags: dock lags, safari lags, scrolling everywhere lags etc. Anybody experiencing similar issues? Should I do another clean install of El Capitan GM App Store version?

Heeeelp, thx :)

+1 though. 10.11 JUST CAME OUT. They started testing betas for 10.11.1 before 10.11 was even released. I'd like to know why that is, because it's hard for me to believe they need to test many public betas to make sure the middle-finger emoji works correctly. I'd be pleased to hear they fixed whatever it is that broke Cubase and other music software.

Well, I can use Apple Mail to retrieve Exchange emails again. Very surprised this broke with the GM, and not fixed before release.

It wasn't the El Capitan GM that was released yesterday that was around 3 weeks ago however the GM and Final Public release are all but identical.

GM Build no. 15A282b

Final Build no. 15A284

Basically if you are running the GM you practically have the Final Build.

Wrong. How in the world do you know what changed between the GM candidate and the public release? With all the equivocating you're doing ("Basically...you practically") you're covered though. ;-)

Lordy. Years back the term "GM" only meant Final build Release. :D

Thus, the term Apple uses to describe it:

for all sony photographers. i just found out that remote camera control is not working under 10.11 (offical) any more. the tethering to my a7r2 doesn't work. could anybody check if it works with the newest beta and replay?

I see Finder with coverflow view still takes half the screen for the cover flow icons, instead of remembering the 25 - 30% or so I would prefer.

Not sure I believe them. If I were able to fix permissions maybe it would have fixed some of the strange behavior I was seeing after the update. It's worked for me before.
Wonder if the El Capitan version of Onyx will include this option?

Apple today seeded the second beta of OS X 10.11.1 El Capitan to public beta testers, just days after releasing the second beta to developers and a week and a half after seeding the first public beta. Today's second beta comes just after the public launch of OS X El Capitan.

The beta is available to those who are participating in Apple's Beta Testing program and can be downloaded through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store.

The first beta of OS X 10.11.1 introduced support for Unicode 8 and new emoji like taco, burrito, cheese wedge, hot dog, middle finger, and unicorn head. The emoji are also included in iOS 9.1, which is also in testing.

Beyond new emoji, there have been no other outward-facing changes discovered, suggesting OS X 10.11.1 is a minor update that will bring bug fixes and performance enhancements. According to Apple's release notes, OS X 10.11.1 offers stability, compatibility, and security improvements.
