USB does not function in a VM environment.
Relieved sigh...happy to report that I just got a USB drive to work with the new beta and Virtualbox.
USB does not function in a VM environment.
Well... it better be out within a month!! I am having horrible WiFi issues after updating my 2015 retina macbook pro, never had issues in Yosemite...This isn't a public release.. Only for beta testers and devs who want to participate in this. 10.11.2 isn't releasing for a month or more..
I wish I stayed on 10.10.5, but as someone else said 10.11.2 isn't released to the public yet, just to public testers.Staying at 10.10.5 until Apple releases something stable. This once-a-week update stuff isn't helpful for my business.
So, if I understand you correctly, the issue is restricted to SMB shares access only and OSX works fine for the rest? Hardly egregiously broken software to my opinion.
safari is causing the system to beachball like there is no tomorrow!![]()
We use an SMB share at my office. I have a 2012 MBP running El Capitan 10.11.1. I have no significant delays in accessing files or opening folders on this shared drive. The most files I have in one single folder on the network is 642. The folder opens in less than one second. I use Chronosync to sync folders between my mac and the SMB directory daily, with no issues. Perhaps I have the benefit of fast networking (we now have Cat5e in the walls I believe, and gigabit switches) which may hide problems with El Capitan's implementation of SMB shares. I have attached a screenshot to show you that this drive is attached using SMB. My point is, for me SMB is not broken on my mac, therefore I am not sure it is a universal problem.
EDIT: Not sure how to insert image into posting anymore. Any advice?
Well, I don't know how long full install will take since I cannot reinstall the whole system right now. But every update install takes less than 20 minutes. I am happy with it.I've done several El Capitan installations and it still always corrupts my MAIL database. The latest installation was apparently fixable, but still testing. In previous attempts, my Email account names and servers were all corrupted, couldn't send/receive email at all on most accounts, but it looks like Apple has mostly solved that problem. Still had to import my mail a couple times which should not be necessary. Apparently I have more email saved and more accounts than the average user, but you would think Apple would account for businesses and Hillary Clinton having multiple accounts right?
In previous installs, El Capitan also made my Apple ID unusable, unable to log into iTunes, connect to iPhone, download pictures from the phone, you name it. That problem appears to be fixed.
The original installer program was extremely buggy. Now its just SLOOOOOOW.
Overall the latest BETA works pretty good, but keep in mind it took me over 5 hours to do the installation! That's worse than Windows 95 & Vista put together and that's on a Mac Pro! HAHA!
MACRUMORS
Should this really be front page news? We're getting updates on OS X and iOS Betas almost every other day it seems. Wouldn't it be better to have it on the Mac/iOS Blogs? Or are you just short on interesting content?
Will safari be snappier? Seriously, Safari in El Capitan 10.11.1 run so slow.
This is more important news than yet another unfounded speculation about the next iPhone.MACRUMORS

I have to agree with what others have said already: I have zero problems with SMB connections with El Capitan, neither did I have any problems with the previous few version of OS X. In fact, I think they are faster than ever (though that might be due to the general increase in performance in 10.11 I'm seeing).Windows and older Macs have NO issues accessing SMB shares. This problem has been present in the last 4 versions of OS X and Apple has done little to nothing to address it. Go search their user forums or Google it. There is no shortage of people complaining about it.
And yes, egregiously broken. An older Mac or Windows client can list a directory on an SMB share containing 400+ files in a matter of 2-3 seconds. El Capitan (and Yosemite and Mavericks...) take upward of 3 minutes to list that same directory. File copying takes twice as long.
That is the very definition of egregiously broken.
And once again, I've updated to this new beta and all those problems are still there.
Certainly couldn't be an issue on the Windows side of things.
I have zero issues with slow SMB on all of our networks and across thousands of machines.
i replied a little after this original post. The latest update has fixed it. It was being a RAM hog. That's been my experience too on my 2013 rmbp. Yosemite seemed quicker to me.
Downloading it now! Will let you know once I hit 50%
It's amusing and sad that they still haven't fixed 5ghz WiFi issues properly.
I wasn't have any issues waking from sleep, WiFi would connect instantly, now it's either disconnecting on wake or takes 30 seconds before it eventually starts working.
This is waking up from less than a couple of minutes sleep:
--- 192.168.1.1 ping statistics ---
35 packets transmitted, 17 packets received, 51.4% packet loss
18 packets before it eventually connects...
Whereas with 2.4ghz WiFi it's instant.

So Apple needs to release this fix soon to the public

That's really interesting... I have 200 Mbps internet. Router does both 5 and 2.4 Ghz. Worked great on Yosemite. When I updated to El Capitan, I can still connect to either band with no problem... But on 2.4 I get 1-50 Mbps speed, but on 5 I get 170-240. Went crazy trying to figure out what the problem was, lol. And I looked into possible solutions for the 2.4, but no other device gets such slow speeds. I even tried removing all devices from the 2.4 just in case it was bogging down the bandwidth, but my MBA was still slow.
Literally the only difference was "upgrading" to El Capitan. Some of my other upgrades include: Major Bluetooth problems especially with Apple devices, Bluetooth slows down wifi, Microsoft Office takes 10 "bounces" to open instead of 4-5, EXTREME lag when typing into the URL/search bar on Safari, slow system boot times. These are all things that were not a problem at all in Yosemite.
I used to want to join the beta program because I wanted the latest features right away.... But now I realize that public final releases are basically software that should still be in beta. It wasn't like this for me 3-5 years ago![]()
Is this how a NY State of Mind is supposed to be? If that's the case, I don't care about NY or yourself.I doubt anyone really cares

Oh, this result is on an "aging" early 2014 MacBook Air with 128GB storage SSD.
(Not for you)
Thanks for your advice. You could get one of those low-profile USB flash drivers to increase your storage specially if your MacBook Air has USB 3.0 ports.
Wow they really messed this build up. My USB drives disconnect after a few minutes of use.
seriously? good for you. we're all happy...Here come the nut jobs again... working flawless for me and FAST!
Did anyone notice their Mac install an EFI update with the new 10.11.2 15C31f beta? My Late 2011 15" MBP installed an EFI update upon reboot and now has a newer boot ROM version than I remember.
