and i thought that was only me. i have noticed strangely enough that at midnight i get all notifications including my drive was disconnected no properly..
I just don't get how they can miss this 2 betas in a row. Not only that but how in the heck to you go from a working system to breaking usb ports inside of what is supposed to be bug fixes? I'm also pretty sure that Apple is blissfully unaware that any of us are having sketchy usb issues on certain macs regardless of the feedback button. (cue the "beta police")

Seriously, they broke USB on 10.11.0. Time to see if it works. IOKit seriously borked and software cannot take control away from OS X, OS X just takes control back every time.

USB does not function in a VM environment.

it can function in a VM environment if the VM vendor uses the hypervisor framework which was introduced in 10.10.

Hmmm. Let's just think about it for a second... Who invented SMB? And who uses some third party implementation of it?

That bein said, Apple's SMB implementation does not work as well as it should and it's gotten worse several OS X releases ago when they switched to SMB X. So, no, it's no necessarily an El Capitan issue, it's a general issue with their inferior SMB X stack.

Isn't it SMB 3 since Yosemite? Or what is SMB X (sorry for my ignorance)?
Anyway, the issues we have at work are happening when accessing a Windows 2008 server using SMB. I don't think it happens (at least there's one permission issue I can't reproduce) when connecting to a file shared Mac over SMB.

Hope this fixes the unacceptably slow SMB that has been destroying the productivity of professional Mac users in business settings since 10.8 although maybe I should just accept it or switch to Windows because apparently expecting the biggest, wealthiest and most powerful computer company on the planet that charges a premium because "it just works" to fix their egregiously broken software is going to make their fanboys unhappy if it doesn't affect everyone everywhere.

True that. My 2012 Mac Pro 3.46 six-core only gets a little use now. Most of that is data storage backed up by CCC. My main machine is an HP Z230. It works better than my MP, has far better connectivity than my MP, cost far less than my MP and is way easier to configure and modify than my MP.

OSX still has some advantages and a lot of nice consumer features (Photos, iTunes, etc) but doesn't have the snappy feeling or easy to read visuals of Windows 10. I have three Macs sitting on the same desk and I am using a PC to write this.

I am using a MacBook Air to write this post. ;)
Truth for me is:
MacBook Air connectivity is worse than my Dell Inspiration 5500. And Windows is still my main working platform. However, when trying to import music from other sources, Mac is still superior and Windows PC is just not comparable.

When I get that laptop, most of my work, either on the go or stay at somewhere is completed on PC. However, Windows 10 is still not so good to introduce to general public. I am waiting for Windows Server 2016 release and install it. :)

Reminder to all those complaining out there. This is BETA software and should NOT be run on production machines as doing so involves a considerable RISK of significant perhaps showstopping bugs.

I think OS X 10.11.x is snappy. Maybe Windows 10 is snappier, but OS X is still snappy I think. I'm also curious what "easy to read visuals" you're thinking of in Windows 10?

Anyone know of a fix/workaround for why I'm not getting OS X updates? I've been a part of the El Capitan beta program for months now, but have noticed that I haven't gotten either of the last two beta releases (even the public release of 10.11.1 hasn't shown up). I'm still running 15A278b. I've tried going through the beta website and redownload the utility file they have you download and still nothing. Thanks for any help or info anyone can provide.

No, of course not. Apple is perfect. What was I thinking talking like that?!

Thanks for taking the time to fully understand the issue instead of giving into a knee-jerk apologist reaction and for bringing me squarely back to my senses.

You are welcome........
But if you feel like this, you might want to stay of the beta track.

If you are on the El Cap beta util (run it and it opens the app store), you should see the most recent beta unless you already have it in a dev version.

The beta police have arrived...... o_O

This beta fixes the bug in a certain grid-layout API that has been broken since El Cap preview beta 1 that has made the Finale music notation software unusable in El Cap. For a small percentage of Mac users who make musical scores but need to be on El Cap., the 10.11.2 release will be extremely important.

Nope, just keeps showing no updates available and shows my last update happening sometime in August I believe. Here's what my info says. Not sure why it's not pushing them to me now...

You need to manually download the full installer of 10.11.1 and install that before you'll see any more updates. Then, you may need to reconfigure the beta access utility.

Woof...how do I go about doing that? Thanks for the info also.

Just open up the App Store application and look for El Capitan and "purchase" it.
One last question...this won't screw up my Windows partition or anything by reinstalling this will it? Hoping not to screw anything up if possible. Thanks.

It shouldn't affect your Windows partition, but you need to have backups anyway.
