I feel like my iOS 8 conversion is incomplete without Yosemite. I'd put money on that being a contributing factor to iOS 8 adoption slowing down. Once Yosemite is publicly released, I see 8 ticking up again. Once you get 8.1 on market, I think we'll push that 80% mark.

If I've learned anything from iOS 8.0.x it's that I will not be an early adopter for this. :) Looking forward to updating when it's really ready though.

Wondering the same thing since I just order a 13in MacBook pro.

Broadwell isn't coming until later this year into next year, so what would they be updating?

That is likely due to having FileVault enabled

I'm with solace. I enabled FileVault the other day, and started having to double enter my password on bootup. It did the same thing on 10.9.x as well, as I recall.

Probably not, since people are waiting for Intel to release their next chip.

I agree. They updated the MBP's this summer. Broadwell chips are due at the start of 2015. Late spring/early summer 2015 is my guess

Are these the same build? They are calling it GM Candidate 2.0 if you started from a DP, but they also call it Public Beta 5?

Hah, the graphical glitch with the volume indicators is still there (when you have transparency turned off.) Guess there will be a GM 3.

I understand your caution, iOS 8 certainly has a lot of bugs as of now, but Yosemite is rock solid, at least on my 2013 MBA. The only noticeable bugs I ever noticed were back in PB 1. PB 2 and everything thereafter ran flawlessly and literally miles better than iOS 8, which, ironically, is out in the public now. Yosemite felt ready to ship back in August to me.

I'd like to think that but honestly there are so many iPhone and iPad users who are not Mac users, that it may not have a huge impact.

I think it is more tied to the fact that they didn't force update you like many users experienced with iOS 7, that many legacy model users just don't update if they are older or less techie, and that iPhone 6 Plus and to some extent, iPhone 6 availability is constrained and many people can't get the new hardware that runs 8.

Apparently golden master builds are just developer preview builds now...

It's a "GM Candidate". Just like the build from 30/09 was described as a "GM Candidate". It's not GM, and it likely won't be until this supposed Apple event at the end of next week.

It can be fresh installed by the looks of it.

Other than Apple Pay (and that's exclusive to the new phones), iOS 8 feels more like Snow Leopard - improvements under the hood that excite people like us here, but not the average iPhone/iPad user. I can see why many are in no hurry to upgrade. I remember installing Snow Leopard way back when and going "that's it?"

Autumn is such a great time for Apple customers. New desktop OS, new mobile OS, new phones, tablets, iMacs, Apple TV (please!). Those months leading up to September are rough. :)

Those months are great for macrumours tho

The animations in About This Mac when selecting different panes seems very unoptimised. But Safari is buttery smooth...dare I say Snappy™!

I've reported this bug in every Yosemite release. It has slightly been improved upon each version. My volume greys out usually when it wakes from sleep mode and I have to adjust and force it to become workable from system preferences/sound options.

Mavericks works well for me right now, so no harm in holding off. Sure, some of the features I will miss, but it wont be for long.
