4k Safari seems to be disabled or broken on my B6 install. Beta 5 was fine in this regard. Not sure whats going on, or if anyone else has experienced this as well?

**considering reverting back to beta 5 if there isn't a fix

SMB mounting is a BIG f...up, and I need to revert back. How do I go about doing that? Is that even possible?

And, back to AFP then, that works...

HI, these 2 commands in the terminal have fixed my SMB problem with the beta 6:

Open Terminal and type:

sudo sh -c 'echo "[default]\nsigning_required=no" > /etc/nsmb.conf'

defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true

Quit terminal

No joy here after those commands. SMB shares still not accessible.

Nope, sadly no joy here even after a restart.

Could you clarify exactly the two distinct different commands, and perhaps what the response should be in Terminal? I think that would be super helpful.

I dont know why, but i didn‘t work for me only one time till restart, but i found another command that still works for me. But you have to execute after each restart:

In terminal type:

sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/smbfs.kext

Hope, i could help!

I just upgraded my Macs to the dev beta 6 and Safari can still playback 4K video with no issues whatsoever. Networking also works, but first I had to run this:
sudo /usr/libexec/configureLocalKDC

When you say Networking works, what do you mean? Can you see and mount SMB shares on for instance a NAS?

2020 iMac Issue
- Updated via Catalina -> Worked fine
- Wanted & totally clean install so rebooted in Safe Mode -> Reinstall OS
- It downloaded Big Sur beta & started the install.
- Then on rebooting it just sits on the Apple logo (no progress bar) like it did with if previous betas were attempted

Not sure what to do now. Holding Option & rebooting now shows TWO choices ‘Macintosh HD - Data’ & ’Macintosh Installer’. If i choose the former, it will boot back into the OLD installation. If I don’t hold Option it always tries to boot to Macintosh Installer (and gets stuck on the Apple Logo).

Frustrating 😔

Did you check System Preferences>startup disk?

Of course. ‘Macintosh HD - Installer’ is not there - it’s a ‘hidden‘ volume. I only have ‘Macintosh HD’ to choose from. From memory, since Catalina, the volume is divided into ‘Macintosh HD - System’ and ‘Macintosh HD - Data’ but the user only sees it as a single ‘Macintosh HD’.

I just hope I can get rid of the phantom installer EVENTUALLY otherwise it’s going to be tedious. I might have to do a fresh install of Catalina -> upgrade and THEN use migration assitant. Looks like my weekend isn’t going to be ver productive after all!

Bug report sent to Apple. Again.

Sorry about that. Hope you find a smooth/easy way out. Though the 2020 iMac seems to have some unique issues, I've seen enough issues on other models to hold off on this beta till the next one. Would also explain why no public beta yet.

No problemo.

I’ve just left the house with it stuck on the Apple logo to see if it sorts itself out in an hour of doing nothing. Hopefully it doesn’t catch fire!

Next step will be a clean install of Catalina, then upgrade to Big Sur, then migrate from my old machine. Will report back.

Thank you! This works - before, I couldn't even connect to another Mac on the same network using standard "Share" capability built-in to macOS.

I'll switch back to Safari from Firefox when (a) uBlock Origin or equivalent works, (b) it implements cookie management. and (c) they allow more customisation of the GUI. I don't see any of those happening. Luckily, FF runs well.

If they don't fix Mail otifications in Big Sur I'll even consider Thunderbird. I sometimes get a new mail badge appearing, then the mail arrives, then 5-10 minutes later the alert sound plays. By then I've probably deleted the mail. The badge often stays. It's a mess. I'm really not sure how a new mail notification can be so buggy, as it's a simple and fundamental part of the app, but hey. Apple have obviously made it really complex for some reason.
