Hey All!

Just wanted to update you on progress of iMac 2020 install. After a lot of trying I was able to get it installed.

My troubleshooting(not something you have to do but can try:
  • I went into Disk Utility and ran first aid on everything I could. Did this in recover mode and from normal app.
  • In recover mode and checked that secure boot was turned on
  • In finder I searched "macOS" under this Mac. Found and deleted the installer(new installer, but later found Apple pushed a slightly newer version a few hours ago)
  • Unenrolled myself from the developer program and re-enrolled after
  • Double checked that macOS installer was deleted again
  • Ran first aid on disks again to be safe
  • Under "Energy Saver" turned Prevent computer from sleeping on and set "Turn display off after" to Never so the display and computer wouldn't go to sleep after starting the process from scratch again.
No you don't have to do all of this but I tried all of this and it ended up working. One thing I noticed was earlier on it would download about 20 to 30% of the download consistently and then it stopped every 10 seconds and then download it again and then stopped again. After I did everything above it consistently downloaded the entire update with no issues and I went through the Installer process. The when the installer was up and running I checked the version of it and it had changed from earlier versioner which made me feel more confident on proceeding for the 4th time.

Hope some of this helps. If you need more assistance let me know. Best of luck!

Oh forgot to mentioned.
If you end up getting stuck on the Apple logo without a loading bar for say 5 to 15 minutes in order to get back and restart the process without hopefully losing any data is to restart your computer hold down option as it restarts and it should give you the option to select a boot drive and then just select the main drive versus the installation drive.

Hopefully after we’re all able to get the 2020 iMac updated that future versions home guest as many headaches. Fingers crossed.

Not falling for it. Troll.

I swear it. I've been waiting for Beta 6 after Beta 5 had the message that it didn't work on 2020 iMacs. The only thing that doesn't work for me is my SMB shares but they're not essential.

Not sure which beta this was enabled in, but you can *finally* move the active phonecall notification wherever you want!

Hopefully this isn't just a bug, though.

Whats up with your funky looking menubar that has the Apple logo misaligned?

I can confirm that the sixth beta fixes the lags in Photoshop and Lightroom. All earlier betas were really slow browsing through Lightroom images and painfully slow using the adjustment sliders. This is now fixed.

Opening images in photoshop and editing is now faster than ever.

the last beta nuked my internet connection. I can't connect to wifi or ethernet (via thunderbolt display).

I have tried:
renewing dhcp lease
deleting network preference plist files and rebooting
reinstalling big sur from recovery mode
creating a new network location
reset nvram/pram

Network diagnostic report shows basic connectivity failure.

Any suggestions?

The issue with the menubar misalignment when a checkmark is in a menu still exists. Also I can barely see still when clicked on a menubar selection.

I am getting a bit worried that these two things'll be in the final release. I hope not.

In Macbook Air early 2015 I had the option to stream 4k content on youtube, even tho it was laggy when I moved the cursor,

Don't forget to check finder for possibly old installer and delete it. As that caused me issues bc the first 2 times today it downloaded and then got stuck.

Can you point at where older installs are stored and named for the big sur betas?

Thanks!
