Any reason why the don't make the battery the full height of the case, and make it a bit thinner to get the same capacity?
Seems like an odd design...

It's to avoid blocking antennas and thus compromising reception and transmission as a consequence.

I would love to pay $130 for one! In Canada it’s $180!!!!

How much is it if you subtract out whatever government taxes are applied to that $180, and the exchange rate between Canadian and US dollars?

This is the thing that had been keeping me from upgrading. As a doctor the ability to slap on a battery and recharge on the go is incredibly useful, when I know I don’t need the capacity I take it off and use a slim case. The ease of use and dynamic power management makes the Apple case miles better than the competition (ie some cases make the phone think it is plugged into a charger so it is more profligate with its power usage strategy, with the Apple case it knows)

£129 is a lot but it transforms the usefulness of the phone.

The hump althoughbit looks odd I’d actually really comfortable as your hand feels the edge and so it makes it seem thinner than it is. The hump provides a ledge to help holding it.

The only thing better than this would be truly wireless (eg remote) charging!

$129 isn't a bad price when you consider you know it'll work and it won't damage your device. Ugliness and high price for some aside, it can double as a weapon to bludgeon someone over the head.

What is this? A drug?

Wish they also made one for the X

I don’t see why it cannot work with the X. They are the exact dimensions aren’t they?
[doublepost=1547621204][/doublepost]
Is there any reason this wouldn't work with the iPhone X? I know the XS has a slightly-modified camera, and so XS cases on an X leave the tiniest extra gap in the hole for the camera... But other than that, shouldn't this work with the X?

I believe you are correct about the camera and that it should work with this case .

I buy my charging cases off Amazon for under $30. Been using them for years, they work great and are thinner than Apple's case. They now have lightning ports instead of MicroUSB, and some have wireless charging as well. Why spend $129?!

I've had 2 of them break. The design sucks where you need to slide the phone in just right or you damage the connector. Ends up not being able to charge the case because the connection isn't good. Sure, send back and get a replacement. I don't have the time, I'll go with Apple. Wireless charging, intelligent battery status make sense to me.

Yea the apple battery cases really do act like an extended battery for the phone. They report their charge level in iOS as well. The charging and discharging is automatically managed instead of having to turn on the charging like on third party cases. The problem with waiting until your internal battery draining before switching on the external battery is that it uses up a charge cycle on the internal battery. If you can keep the internal battery close to full for longer then you can extended its useful service life.

Another smart feature is that the Apple battery cases don't trigger the "I'm plugged into a wall" power profiles in iOS. This means that even though the smart battery case is charging the phone it won't trigger actions like iCloud backup, photo uploads, photo analysis, etc... which drain your battery like crazy.

Aftermarket battery cases like Mophie or other cheap ones just act like a battery bank or a normal wall charger. The phone has no idea its running off a second battery. So it will behave like you are at home plugged into the wall.

You also won't find fully functional lightning ports on third party battery cases. The ones that have lightning ports will only charge. No data or audio pass through. The apple battery cases always behaved like the native lightning port on the phone.

This says it all.. thank you! Anyone that compares this case to the cheap models available on Amazon, simply "don't get it" There is a ton of value in how this is integrated to the iPhone and not simply a battery pack housed in a case.

So Apple design philosophy is for thinner and thinner, at some expense of battery size. And improved battery life solution is then a fatter case at additional cost...

Sorry, but reality doesn’t support your meme anymore, nor has it for the last few years. iPhones have gotten THICKER and THICKER each year for the past 4 years, with the Xr being the thickest since 2011.

Sorry to burst your “Apple only cares about thinness” bubble. Find something else to hate about Apple, this forum has quite a fine selection of talking points for you to choose from.

Must admit had a 40GBP Store card to use for ages now so putting that to good use plus corporate discount has brought it down to 76 GBP.....reasonable if I do say so

Means I now dont have to carry my extra battery around with me just in case.......

Now if they were to build wireless charging into the battery case so you could wirelessly charge the airpods from the case by placing them on it....now that would be a game changer.

The iPhone XR has the longest battery life of ANY IPHONE EVER RELEASED. And in some tests better than every single smartphone on the market. I know because I have one and the battery life is ridiculous. You can easily get 1.5 days of usage without a single charge.

£129 incl. tax in the UK.
$129 + tax in the US.

£129 = $165.99
$165.99 - $129 = $36.99
$36.99 / $129 = 0.2867...

So, unless tax in the US is 28.67%, it's a fupping rip-off in the UK... as usual.

No sale, Apple. No sale.

Yes it will as XS cases are compatible with X
Apple's website does not state it's compatible with the iPhone X, only the XS, so I would ask them directly for confirmation.

Not only that, but when the antennae get blocked, they ramp up the power use. So a bigger batter might not last as long as a smaller case that doesn’t block signal.

Very cheap since you get protection+battery+inductive charging
3 in 1 for just 130$? Best value from Apple

If you just knew how much it costs Apple to develop and produce these cases, you will not be that sure in your statment. Apple has the ability to dominate the case business which is a bilions of dollars business. Instead, they again decides go all the way the expensive path which gives more business to Chinese knock-offs for 10% of the price on aliexpess and similar sites. A simple silicon case from Apple should be 19$ and one with a battery 49$ as they do not require a great deal of R&D and can be manufactures for a few cents per unit.

Did Tim design this "chunk" himself?

It also makes you consider if this product is just upsale on the mediocre battery of the phone to begin with?
