Instead their engineering & design team could go for swappable batteries still retaining waterproofing & Wireless chargi6 . More modular approach would be the way to go for Apple if they are going to charge $800-$1000 for the mobile. This battery case is against their thinner mobiles and certainly going make it lot heavier.

I imagine people will lose their minds when the pricing for AirPower is announced. I'm going to guess around £149 at the absolute minimum.

I get a full day easily out of my XS Max and i am quite a heavy user. Some days when i go to bed,i still have 25-30% left. You must have a dodgy one.
'Heavy Usage' is subjective, your idea of heavy usage will be different from other people. When I use my iPhone X normally (again subjective) I usually have about 50-60% battery life at 10pm. When I use a X a little bit more (YouTube, Apple Music through the load speakers) I'm down to 20% by 4pm. For me heavy usage would be watching a couple hours of a streaming service, listening to music for couple of hours, playing some games, some social media posts and some phone calls. The built in battery will not last a full day without needing a re-charge no matter what Apple's marketing spiel says about battery life.

Have ordered one for my iPhone XS Max as my iPhone does not last 1 day, when getting home from work I have to charge the iPhone for a few hours to make it last until I go to bed.
Your XS Max does not last a full day?

Sorry to say it, but there’s something wrong with your phone...

Or you.

Awesome I've been waiting for this, I was trying to choose between an XS and XR and was worried they wouldn't release one for the XR which is what I ended up ordering a couple of days ago, again due to battery life and faster performance (according to reviews).

I travel trans-atlantically for business and I currently use an iPhone 7 with the Smart Battery Case, it's awsome to be able to do a day of traveling/waiting at the airport, do an 8 hour flight and then have another day's use when you get to your destination with no messing about with charging cables or USB battery packs on the plane or in the airport. It's possible the built in battery on the XR would take care of this for me with people saying they get multi-day battery life but these are always subjective remarks which depend very much on usage and to me it's always better to have more battery life if you need it whilst traveling in case (no pun intended) of the unexpected delay with any of the many transport types I end up using whilst traveling. Especially when all your tickets and boarding passes etc are all in your Apple Wallet!

To be fair, I originally planned to use my 7's smart battery case only when I was likely to have extended days traveling, however I ended up just not taking the case off. It makes the phone easier to hold and you just get used to it.

Ordered for the XR and should be here on Friday (UK). As others have said, there's no comparison between these and the cheapo cases on Amazon. I've bought my kids cheap iPhone battery cases from Amazon and you get all sorts of unexpected issues. They have to remember to switch them on, they're cheap and plasticy, sometimes when you plug them in to charge the phone won't accept that it should charge until you remove it from the case and insert it again. they just have LEDs to indicate the charge, they cause the phone to think it's plugged into the wall, I could go on...

Ordered to try out on my X - I'm sure the XS version will be compatible even though Apple don't list it on their site. I anticipate I will get a number of comments on the bulge in my front jean pocket

The existence of a cheaper alternative has never really stopped people from picking the “official” Apple offering.
Yeah, but the vast majority of the people actually look alswhere just because they do not see the value of the accesories offered by Apple. Ofc there are people who buy an iPad together with the official case, keyboard, pen, fast charger and all bells and whistles but the vast majority would just buy an iPad and go for a thrid party case from BestBuy or aliexpress. That is the point here. The majority of iPhone users I see in the wild have third party cases and thats not because they prefer their Hello Kittey case, but because charging 50$ for a plain silicon case in 2019 is pathethic. I just received 25 iPhone knock-off cases from alibaba for 50$ with shipping included from Hong Kong. These are barely distinguishable from the original ones and I have a different case for each day of the month if I want to. Im ok paying 50% or even 100% premium for receiving an original product from Apple, but paying 1,000% more is absolutely out of question for me, especially if I paid already 1000$+ for the device itself.

Apparently not. My Xr drains pretty fast if I forget to close Apple News or any other news app by swiping them completely gone.

I think the Reddit App does that too and a social media app our school uses to keep parents informed of school events. If I remember to swipe all my apps closed I get good battery life. If not, I don’t make it through the day sometimes.

Is your mobile phone signal really weak? I use my phone constantly for Twitter, Instagram (for NBA highlights), Bleacher Report for NBA scores, and Apple News. Plus Apple Music streaming. All on 4G.

I also use it a little bit for productivity (Calendar and emails), which aren’t the most battery intensive tasks, but there you go.

Today, Screen Time is reporting 4h39m of usage, and my battery life is 49%. I get strong 4G at work though.

I *honestly* don't understand how people get such good battery lives on their iPhones. I have been an iPhone user since 2011 and have ALWAYS had to charge every night. I see people posting they are on 'Day 2 without charging and still at 47%!!!'.
I got 3 days while on vacation i. Sydney with my family! I wasn’t using my phone like usual though. Very little social media or videos, but lots of GPS, plus photos and video.

The iPhone XR has the longest battery life of ANY IPHONE EVER RELEASED. And in some tests better than every single smartphone on the market. I know because I have one and the battery life is ridiculous. You can easily get 1.5 days of usage without a single charge.

My XR’s battery life is amazing as well.

I think if you travel a lot, maybe the battery pack would be amazing to have. I just don’t need more than 8.5-9 hours of screen-on time! I can normally recharge before that.

A coworker just got a new XS, and he says his battery lasts him for the day with like 30% battery remaining. He uses his phone much less than me though.

As a general rule of thumb, I stay away from Apple’s “dumb” accessories and pick those which are sufficiently differentiated via software.

So I wouldn’t consider a silicon or leather case, but I would be intrigued by a battery case or AirPower, because of the promise of a unique user experience that can’t be readily replicated by other competing alternatives.

I was about to say on the silicone case for $40!

But Apple knows that they need to adjust revenue shortages with accessories and companion products like Apple Watch, Home Pod, Air Pod, Silicon Case, Keyboards, Battery case! They just need to ship it to their distribution network force them to the retailers. They earmarked it as shipped in their books to show revenue. They know it very well that million here, million there on these almost 100% margin accessories shipments can off-set some revenue loss in iPhones or iPads. Coloring the books needs lots of thinking and strategic out look ahead of time.

While Wall Street is worried about iPhone shipments, Apple going to pull out trick from the hat posting higher (than expected) earnings! TC knows how to keep investors in good humour!

So Apple design philosophy is for thinner and thinner, at some expense of battery size. And improved battery life solution is then a fatter case at additional cost...

I doubt more than 5% of all users will have need for a battery case. The new iPhone models all have decent battery life, and contrary to what you’re saying, the iPhones have been getting marginally thicker with larger cells over the past years. It’s not a good idea to sell a thicker and heavier phone (than is necessary) to accommodate just those users who might not even need for the majority of the time. Personally I feel like this is a much better solution, even though the case is somewhat overpriced.

The old Apple smart battery case was a great case, had one, loved it, but there is a major design flaw with this new one, I’m not sure anyone picked up on it.
The bottom lip at base of screen (where home button was) is same as sides. It protrudes above and on the glass. Unlike the Apple leather cases, which have no bottom lip. Your thumb will miss the edge of the glass on swip up gestures. I had this issue on a Magback case and it was a nuisance. I’m surprised Apple have fallen into the trap, but since the case has its own lighting port I guess they had their hands tied somewhat.

Quick search on Amazon. Lots of battery case below 50 bucks. Yes, both this Apple battery case and Mophie one are overpriced.

I know.. and think of all the extra at no cost benefits of those cheaper designs! like.. they cover the attenna's for you, no extra charge, don't have built in passive attennas to boost signal, no extra charge, don't come on and off easily, no extra charge, and don't have wireless charging, again.. no extra charge!!!!! because if you have the money and desire for an external battery case, why would you want to make calls?

I have cases for my x and xs (otter box and UAG) that have way deeper lips than the battery case and its not an issue. You don't need to be off the edge of the screen to do the home screen wipe up gesture. That bar along the bottom is just cosmetic, the actual area is much larger. you can pretty much be in the area between the flashlight and camera circles and initiate the swipe up.

I mean, $129 lines up with higher-end offerings from Mophie and such. Sure, there are $50 Amazon battery cases, but do you want to put one of those on your $1k phone?
