A hold for the full amount has been put on my credit card, despite getting an email from Apple saying the transaction hadn't gone through properly..

No idea when it's due to ship, i'm tempted to forego the portability and just get a 20" iMac with a faster processor and bigger HD for £400 less..

My AMEX was charged today and my account has been debited i.e., it shows up on my balance due for next month.

I have a Debit card and it has not been charged yet...

Also, forums reguarding shipping are being locked left and right at Apple.com.... anyone have any thoughts?

So they're saying the delay is purely down to demand, doesn't that mean they've sold yours to someone who ordered later than you?

Not really, it seems the estimated shipping system is automated (poorly). The estimated shipping is based on estimated stock, estimated demand, and estimated time of purchase (*grin*). Because of this, delays could very well be that your system was sold to an American, or that the system didn't notice that demand was higher than expected.

Stupid silly excuse I know... but I still bet on the system being sold to an American option. If it is true, it might mean I actually get my system on time. *j/k*

..and it means I'll probably cancel mine. What seriously crappy service for those of us who made the effort to order asap, yet just happen to be in a different country!

I'm going to call Apple tomorrow and find out what's going on with my order, hopefully it won't be March it's planned to show up.

Well, it was a bit of a joke, but I am in the early orderers along with the rest of you, and have had Feb 15th the whole time. What happened in the UK could be due to a lot of different factors, including them messing up on when the UK should have been getting their shipments.

I've been checking out the iMac..I'm thinking I'm going to change my order anyway - buy the iMac 20" 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 256mb graphics, then pick up an iBook when they come out later in the year. I could do my more intensive computery stuff on the iMac, and have the cheaper iBook for that portability factor..

All depends when my order is, but this iMac/iBook combo is making more and more sense..!

This story

I hope its true and covers all machines ordered...

although i see the US site now has 1.83 and 2.0 whereas the UK site still shows the old speeds...

Just rang up apple uk

they said all people who have macbook pros on order will receive an email today clarifying the new spec, and updating the despatch dates.

She also said I will be getting the new spec - without takng my order number so I guess that covers everyone

goes back to watching inbox...

Yup, I was told the same thing. I was also told that if you want to upgrade to the 2.16GHz model you have to do a brand new order. They can't change your current order.

$300 for .16GHz...I promise you you won't notice it in 99.99999% of ANYTHING you do. Some people are truely being raped :)

Please pardon the blatant use of common sense here, but how is anyone being raped?

This is an upgrade, not a downgrade. Everyone who bought the MacBook Pro when they were first announce is getting the same notebook they thought they were getting, only a little faster. Nobody is having prices jacked up and their credit card charges adjusted without their say-so. Nobody's advanced order machines are being downgraded (like when the G4 towers forst cam out and the specs were lowered by 50mhz on all machines, and this is when the top of the line was 500mhz mind you).

Nobody had an order for the 2.16Ghz machine before now. Nobody paid extra for a "mystery speed" machine that was promised to be faster than the other two but not specified, with a price tag of $300 over the higher end standard config. Nobody is walking blindly into this purchase decision. They know they are only getting another 160mhz for the $300, and nobody is FORCING them to buy it (which is kinda what the whole idea of rape is).

No, they are forcing you to pay $300 IF you want the upgrade. Sure you have the choice to upgrade your speed - but the raping comes from the cost performance ratio - price of the upgrade RAPES the performance upgrade. It's completely ridiculous.

Although I'm really happy about getting an upgrade to the MBP 2.0 my shipping date has today slipped for the third time:

ordered 10th Jan - ESD: 7th Feb > 10th Feb > 10th March > 15th March

I really hope it's worth the wait.

Dont worry yet...

Mine has been Feb 7, Feb 10, Mar 10, Mar 14, and now its Feb 28.
I was pretty annoyed with a Mar 10 date, but Feb 28 with 1.83
instead of 1.67 has made me feel a lot better about it.
Although I think Apple could have handled this better...

I do find it hard to believe that anyone can see any real benefit at the extra .16GHz (x2) processor speed. Surely it is only to have the greatest model that is currently available.

Am I wrong?

i would have to agree with you. .16GHz would be 160MHz .. back in the day it would but you know what.. after thinking about it.. then what would be so grand about 1.8 versus 2.0GHz ... it technically is only .20GHz and we all get the higher one. So maybe when we see some benchmarks might come up as being somewhat beneficial to add .16GHz ...

I'll keep on truckin' with my Powerbook. Good luck y'all. Post some photos soon.

The APPLE community is to lenient towards Steven....

I still believe, that tha APPLE followers are way to forgiving, and lenient when it comes to Steven's decisions to steal FiWi800, a DL DS DVD drive, a modem, 60 pixels horizontally, and give us only 2 USB's. If i buy a USB Modem, one port is gone...
Why can't the (smart) man that he is, see that his worshippers are willing to pay for what they want, including a colorMAC.

:D
