I'll be picking one up later today at The Grove Apple store :)

Edit: I'll have an unboxing (of course) later tonight!

I wonder if this will become a standard someday. Will other companies adopt something similar?

I can't wait to try this out at an Apple store!

Odd Apple took the AA battery route. Seems so 1980s. Would have preferred a internal battery w/ usb charger. That certainly would have been cleaner. Hopefully this trackpad is light on the juice so frequent charges won't be necessary.

Indeed! These will go through AA's like butter; considering what the Magic Mouse does even with rechargeable Energizers.

To be honest, connecting the new iMac's with a near-field recharger or wireless energy with this pad (how far from the iMac would you really use it anyway) would have been GREEN and also very economical and efficient.

I guess I'm the worst applenut cause I love my Magic mouse (but only with BTT enhancements), and ordered a Trackpad today for my mac mini/living room/HTPC set up.

Would love a virtual KB touch interface option to control an onscreen KB with the trackpad. maybe BTT can do this too. why Apple crippled the Magic mouse so badly makes no sense, hope they update MM's FW too altho BTT software can't be beat.

iPhone works great for controlling MacMini HTPC for me. This trackpad thing would be too unwieldy IMO.

Now we need some other accessories besides a battery charger from Apple.

How about Apple branded hard drives that look externally like the Time Machine hard drive icons?

what is the point?

they enlarge the notebook trackpad. pretty soon they will make a giant mouse. I hate trackpad on the notebook, now they made a bigger thing that i hate. that is first class innovation from california.

Yeah and it will be in a aluminum enclosure :) Why don't we start a company? Call it "Aludrives" :D

My mighty mouse is getting ready to die - going to see if i can live without mice altogether.

I'm very impressed with Apple's delivery service. I ordered a Magic Trackpad and a USB Keyboard (with numpad) yesterday afternoon at about 3pm in the UK and they both got delivered about 15 minutes ago.

That Magic Trackpad seems pretty neat. Although I don't have any need for one, I think it's pretty awesome that Apple is making a larger version of their amazing multitouch trackpad. I was *never* a trackpad fan until I got my MBP and got used to the multitouch glass trackpad. The plastic trackpads in current Windows laptops and older Macs really suck, but with this one, I can actually use the trackpad without cringing. Good one, Apple! :D

OK, so I've got one :) Setting it up is an absolute breeze providing you've already installed the TrackPad update. Click on the button in the Sys Prefs Trackpad panel, it turns on Bluetooth if not already active, finds the device and all you have to do is confirm that's the one you want to pair with. Setting gestures is identical to how you do it on an MBP.

I have it currently sat next to my laptop as I'm not at home with the iMac, which is a bit weird because I have TWO trackpads and by habit my hands keep reaching for the one below the keyboard. However, the MT has great response, works everywhere the MBP trackpad works and is perfectly sized for my hand.

:)

Brilliant, just what I wanted to hear, Im sold.! Thanks for sharing my friend.:)

why dont they make this with a detachable usb cable?

this way it can recharge directly from the usb port of the pc while in use, and the cable removed when not needed anymore. or you just keep it stuck in if you dont mind the cable.

AA batteries are so 20th century...

See, I disagree completely. I have had many devices with either built-in batteries (ex: iPods) or proprietary rechargeables (ex: DSLRs). Whenever battery issues occur, fixing/replacing these is expensive. I'm much happier to see simple industry standards being used. I'll just pick up another pack of low-discharge AAs for this and be happy. If something goes wrong with the batteries, I just grab from my supply of NiMHs or even alkaline to get along for a couple days until I can replace the $10 Eneloops.

WORD.

The more I look at this thing, the more I want to buy one for my Mac Mini media center.
Definitely. When you pick it up from the desk and use it more like a remote it really comes into its own. Hook that mini up to a 50" TV. Seriously sweet :)

Drivers are out. For Mac, only 10.6.4 support - nothing for 10.5.8. But Win XP has driver support. C'mon Apple, you'll support someone else's 10 year old OS, but not your own previous version.

That is because Windows represents "extra" sales to Apple so they will support it while they want to FORCE Leopard users to upgrade to Snow Leopard so the won't support it. They just added some gesture support to "older" Macbook models, but my September '08 (not even two years old) Macbook Pro isn't one of them. That's Apple for you. Don't add new features for older hardware so they can try and milk you some more.

What gesture didn't they add? The three finger navigation swipe? Works fine on my early 2008 MBP
