I'd buy one if Siri could search music...like it should.... and your could pair a BT Keyboard.....those things should be basic ....but seems lately they like to use ALL their Customers as beta testers!!!

You can pair a bluetooth keyboard on Apple TV 3. Does the 4th gen not do this anymore?

No it does not....yet. For all the PW's and User names you have to enter when logging on to your Video sites, they have a horrible straight line alphabet that about wears out your fingers....It just seems like such an unfinished product that SJ would not have let out yet....very disappointed in the way Apple is headed.

I will skip this one, unless there is a way to backup and restore, it's too much of ball ache to configure everything each time. I did the last beta but I've now lost the use of NowTV since the Apple TV is seen as a new device, and you can only add a new device once a month...and I used up this month's allocation when I originally installed the new Apple TV.

Open a live chat with NowTV from this link and they should help you get an additional device activation. After all they were late to the party getting their app to launch and if they had you would have activated your device at the end of last month.

They have been more than helpful with device issues in the past.

This is one of the worst policies I've ever heard.

Yep, it's really backward thinking to prevent end users managing their own devices, however the live chat people at NowTV are pretty receptive and good at working the changes you request. Much better than when I tried to do similar requests with SkyGo a few years back.

I totally agree, the remote is poorly designed. I wished the ATV4 had consistent results using an IR remote. The ATV3 seems like the superior product at the moment.

Hopefully this update will fix the many things plaguing this device.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The atv4 is sooooooo.... much better than the three. Faster, nicer interface. The remote is great and easy to use. What inconsistencies are you referring to.

And as far as the "many things plaguing this device", what are those? I have no issues with mine. Perhaps you got a defective device or you aren't using it properly. You might want to make an appt with the apple to help you out.

Sometimes when watching Walking Dead episodes, the audio will cut out for a few seconds while the video keeps playing. What's odd is that the entire video is already buffered, so this has to be some sort of bug. Might even be just Walking Dead, because I have yet to have this problem with other shows. It's just really annoying because I'll miss what someone said and will have to tell Siri to "go back 10 seconds", and then I'll hear what they said.
I think that may be an AMC issues. I've experienced that with AMC shows on u-verse.

The Apple TV 4 seems to buffer and stutter a LOT less than the Apple TV 3, so that part is good. I still can't get Siri to work the way I want her to. "Play the next episode of Parks and Recreation on Netflix" should do what I expect. Instead I have to say "Play parks and recreation" then pick "Netflix" and then pick the episode. Also the remote will basically do stuff if you even look at it, way too sensitive.

I'm still scratching my head why they actually included a charging cable for the remote, but it's not USB-C where you can actually plug it into the ATV. I'd like to just leave the cable plugged in and wrapped behind my ATV and retrieve it when my remote needs charging.

There is nothing basic about using a bluetooth keyboard on your lap in the living room.

That said, it would be marginally less annoying for the occasional login entry.

Not hard to understand.

1) they are not going to manufacturer a 1 off USB-C to Lightning cable, to then be confused with every other Lightning cable you have.

2) plugging the cable in to the back of the ATV to charge is impractical. you can't still use it like that. plug it in near the couch so you can still use it if need be. i didn't need to change anything, as there is already a 6ft lightning cable near the couch for occasional device charging.

3) the port on AppleTV is diagnostic only. they weren't going to make it regular USB, or you'd have countless people trying to plug other things into it.

I agree. It's really hard to find in a dark viewing room (all black), and nearly impossible to tell if you're holding it upside down or not, resulting in frequent selection of the wrong button. You should be able to tell by touch if you have the correct orientation.

I guess I'll need to wrap one end with brightly-colored tape or something.

Why polish or not deprecate already existing -needed- features if your hardware is sexy? (all hail the rewrite, casualties don't matter! *looks at iWork juuuuuust barely picking up where the ancient versions left off*)

Make way for the uneducated customers who need Apple gear for the fashion aspect!

Put your thumb in the middle - the volume button is the long one and should go on the right.
"You're holding it wrong!"™ Reloaded.
Only this time, it's part of a series of events of major negligences.

This guy saw the writing on the wall a few years ago. I really didn't believe him at the time.

The fact that the Magic Keyboard can only be readily paired wih one device is a bit of a tell in terms of TVOS keyboard support if you ask me.

So Apple still hasn't managed to replace Scott Forstall, but the strange hardware decisions are also still sad.

So something will be updated in 9.1 :)

I've been using plex on mine and it's been a great experience.

Two weeks in I've decided to keep it, though not fond of the new remote, in the dark I cannot tell which is the touch pad and which is then back cause the buttons are in the middle, the old remote was a much better design.
This is about my only complaint as well, that remote. Even with the light on I'll grab it and have to flip it around.

Though I have 4 aTV's at the moment and one of them can be a little slower than the others even being the exact same model.
It takes just a second or two longer to switch between apps, a little longer to start a movie, a restart usually fixes most of the slowness until I start noticing it again the next day.

Amen. Looks like in the internal power struggle with Scott Forstall over UI design, Apple is the one who lost.

Plug it in near the couch into what? My guess would be that there's a whole bunch of people that don't own Apple-approved wall warts that came with an iPhone or iPad. Will charging the remote from a Dell computer's USB port be Apple-approved if one catches on fire? It was a/another stupid move.

When you do make sure you send a picture of it to Jony. Maybe it will give him hives. :)

Netflix app goes right to the next episode. Yes, you do have to click play to confirm, but that's a good thing.

Am I the only one who has problems with directions?
When scrolling through films, apps etc. I'm always pointing to the wrong side first.
Nothing about 'natural scrolling'.
For screenshots it works correctly.

How smart is this remote? It has IR, and some sort of computer in it, for voice capture.

Therefore, is it technically possible that one day they'll make this little thing a true universal remote? Like, could i go into settings and pick my stereo and my tv, and then have the damn little thing turn everything on for me?

I know it's not possible now. Just wondering if it was technically possible, so i can put it on my wish list.
