ATV3 superior? Bahahaha

Sad but true.

It would be like BMW releasing a newly designed Z4. The new Z4 has a powerful new motor, and new features, but the new features only work some of the time. The motor stalls, and you have restart it on occasion. It has bad oversteer, and the speakers don't always work right.

The old model did not have any of the issues that the new model had,and it ran well, except the motor and interior showed its age.

While the new model had the potential to be great, the old model is clearly superior. What one would you drive.

I hope some updates fix the issues of the ATV4, but pretending the issues do not exist does not help.

Look back at the other posts in the thread. It won't take you long to see the many issues that many people have posted. Or do a google search. I am not going to repost them for someone that isn't serious to want to know.

I think it is great that you are having a good experience with your ATV4, but many people are having problems and complaints. Many of the things people are complaint about are subjective, such as the user friendliness of UI on the new versions of Netflix. Others are not so subjective like the play back issues that some users are having. There is another forum with a post about a side by side comparison playing the same movie with ATV4 and 3 highlighting that persons playback issues that are on the 4, but not the 3.

Ok, I must not be an advanced user, lmao.

Don't just believe what you read on Macrumours!

Having used an aTV3 for the last 2 years (and a aTV2 before that) the aTV4 is significantly better in almost every way. I'm sure Apple will address text input through Bluetooth keyboard support and/or an update to the iOS app if future updates but even if they didn't, I wouldn't switch back to a aTV3. I also miss the optical out (worked around with an adapter, very Apple like) and a few apps that aren't available yet, but the number available grows daily and there's nothing I can't do on the new aTV4 that I could on the 3.

Suggesting the 3 is a better device, especially based only on what you've read, is just foolish ;)

Is the Atv 4 jailbreakable?

No, but why do you want to jailbreak it? My aTV2 was jailbroken to use Plex, and my aTV3 had a DNS redirect to achieve the same. There is a Plex app for the aTV4, so no need for either. It's also possible to side load apps through Xcode if you really feel the need!

At least for me, it is not on just stuff I read. It is from use. I own a bunch of ATVs, and the ATV4 is my latest purchase.

I think the ATV4 has lots of potential, but it is not as polished as the ATV3 especially with ease of use. Also at least not in its current state, would I consider the box revolutionary like Apple said.

What is plex for? Can you download or play movies for free with plex?

Plex is lots of things, but at it's heart it's a Media Server that allows you to catalogue and stream your own media content (films, TV, music, photos, etc.) to various client devices, both internally and externally of the network it's running on.

Where you source your media and how much that costs is entirely down to you ;)

After reading the whole explanation at its website, I still dont get what is this for and why would I need it? Is it to make apple devices run flash videos? Is it a format converter? Why would I need it?

Is it to make apple devices run flash videos? No
Is it a format converter? No, although it does transcode media on the fly to suit the client device
Why would I need it? To manage and stream your media collection

For me, the main question is: why would I need it, if I run a iTunes media server?
So far my best understanding is this:
1) multi-format support (not just MP3,MP4,AAC,ALAC)
2) WAN-support (not just local network segment)

Is it to make apple devices run flash videos? No

If I am not an order freak, why would I need to manage or organize my media files??? I just stream my media in whatever order I find it in my pc. My guess is that this is useful for people that own an iphone but uses a chromecast instead of an apple tv and want to do the same things.
