Apple today released the third public beta of iOS 11 to its public beta testing group, allowing non-developers to download and test the new operating system ahead of its fall launch. The third public beta of iOS 11 comes two weeks after Apple released the second public beta and it likely corresponds to the fourth developer beta.

Beta testers that have signed up for Apple's beta testing program will receive the new iOS 11 beta update over-the-air after installing the proper certificate on an iOS device.

Those who want to join the beta testing program can sign up on Apple's beta testing website, which gives users access to iOS, macOS, and tvOS betas. Step-by-step instructions for downloading installing the public beta can be found in our how to. Betas should only be installed on a secondary device as the software is not stable and often includes many bugs.

The fourth developer beta brought some of the most significant changes we've seen yet in an iOS 11 beta. A much-desired swipe feature for clearing Notifications on the Lock screen has been added, and there are also several visual tweaks to icons throughout the operating system. An overview is below:

The iOS 11 operating system introduces several design changes to the operating system, including a new Lock screen experience and a customizable, redesigned Control Center. Siri is smarter, has a more natural voice, and can do more, Messages features person-to-person Apple Pay, Notes has searchable handwriting and document scanning, and Music lets you share playlists with your friends.

A new Files app improves file management on iOS devices, and on the iPad, there's a new Dock, an App Switcher, and support for Drag and Drop, all of which improves multitasking on the device. A revamped App Store is coming in iOS 11, photos and videos take up less space, iMessages can be stored in iCloud, and developers are getting new tools like ARKit for creating impressive new augmented reality apps and games.

For complete details on all of the features included in iOS 11, make sure to check out our iOS 11 roundup. Apple plans to release iOS 11 to the public in the fall following several months of testing and refinement.

I only have a main iPhone so I've held off so far. Might drop this one in tho

one day after the developer beta - Apple's getting fast. The last beta wasn't that bad - def had some bugs but still usable.

Is it me or is this install - slow... seems to be taking forever - i wonder what Apple is doing under the hood?

In the past when I've done the public beta, I waited until the 3rd or 4th one. This year, I jumped right in and boy do I regret it. PB2 was much better than PB1, but is still buggy. Hopefully PB3 is a lot better. I need to remember this next year. I also need to remember to actually follow Apple's advice and backup to my computer before installing the beta. I would have gone back to iOS 10 in a second if I actually did a good backup.

Dev beta 3 had four bugs that I kept getting on my iPad. None of them serious except for not being able to download new apps. In the 24 hours with beta 4, None of these bugs have showed up. Everything I use is working very well.

I’ve now installed it on my wife’s iPhone. Wish me luck.

Confirmed 15A5327g on my iPhone 7+

Going on a run so hopefully I'll have something to add to the conversation when I get back...

Anyone else notice the betas of iOS 11 don't install as easily as previous versions of iOS?

Actually - this one downloaded and installed in no time flat - I was a little surprised at how "snappy" the update process was this go around. Wasn't a very big update for me either.

iPhone 7+ 256g

Cheers

Updated my 12.9" iPad Pro (2017), which was running Public Beta 2. Sadly, under Beta 3, the iPad refused to connect to any WiFi network. Hard restart didn't help.

Beware!

Update: Second hard reset fixed it.

Tempted to put in my daily or stick it in my work phone as I'm off for the week

I think I'm finally gonna drop this onto my 9.7 pro... Have there been any reports on how buggy this version is?

Public beta 2 was very stable on my iPhone 7+, but very unstable on my 9.7 iPad Pro. So buggy I didn’t install it on my 10.5. I couldn’t install the new updates yet (I’m going to do it now) but I hope this fixes my iPad 9.7

My iPad Air was able to find the update immediately, and is already done. My iPhone 7 still thinks it is up to date... iPhone is on Verizon... Anyone else see this?

**Update**
After 1. uninstalling public beta profile 2. restarting phone 3. reinstalling profile (with obligatory restart) I am now installing PB3.

Not long restored to 10.3.3 because battery wasn't very good on iOS 11 beta 2. How was the battery on beta 3?
