If you want to use Siri with a Mac Mini I assume you need a webcam with microphone or an audio in standalone microphone?

Would anybody know if the current Sierra Beta is compatible with Photoshop CS6, Nik plugins and 24'' Apple Cinema Display?

The video shows there are three ways to access Siri: dock, menu bar icon and a key command. Is there no "Hey Siri" functionality like on the iOS? Seems like a big oops to me if it's missing.
yes there is a way to use the hey siri command, it was first discovered in very first beta.

I hope this release doesn't have the login loop bug.
Last time I had to create an extra administrator account to login :(

I converted to the apple ecosystem in 2012 (current: ipad air2, 15" MBP MY'14, iPhone 6SPlus, 5s), and have been extremely happy but like many, that love is fading. Apple is stagnant on both hardware and software and is allowing the competition to catch up and in some cases surpass them. Sierra has been a disappointment for me. As was Yosemite, which El Captain, made usable again. It would have been more worth while if the new apple file system was in place as default with a matching time machine update that was more modern. I was also hoping for a smoother UI experience now that metal should be more mature. Unless that is yet another apple technology they highlight then stop working on... Still small animation glitches on my MY'14 MBP which I'm frankly getting tired of.

I use siri on my iphone, but so far I rarely use it on the mac. I prefer Launchbar on the mac for most things file workflow/file related. Siri just doesn't fit into my workflow currently but it my have a place.

Sierra also removed PPTP which breaks my VPN, also removed the ability to enter a VPN hostname (only IP address.. wtf). Sierra also broke some of the plugins I use in Lightroom making it unusable for a daily driver.

Unless, the next 15" MBP is really something special, and the supposed redesigned iphone 8 is equally awesome, I'll probably leave the apple ecosystem when it comes time to replace my laptop. Windows 10 anniversary is getting better , and adds continuity with Android (Thanks Apple) which would be a must-have for me at this point. Despite the new name, I find this release very "style over substance" release that offers very little. The next 15 months will be very interesting for Apple.

What's the build of public beta 3?

(Is it different from build reference 16A270f of developer beta 4?)

It is the same build - 16A270f

[doublepost=1470167956][/doublepost]Just setting up desktop & documents folders share for iCloud Drive - will see how this compared to dropbox. I will certainly appreciate having one documents folder in synch across devices.

As far as Mac software goes, what exactly has surpassed it, or even caught up to it? Why is Sierra a disappointment for you? You're complaining about a beta, you know that right? If you're going to complain (versus inform) about glitches in a beta - even a public one - then you really can't expect others to take that seriously. Apple has already said that the AFS will not be on by default even in the main release as it's still in development. As far as Metal goes, that's supposed to be used for gaming. Apple still works on it but it's clear that its adoption on macOS is probably never going to reach widespread adoption whereas Metal on iOS is getting adoption. We don't know if Sierra removed your VPN stuff or if that's not ready yet and therefore not in place for this build - the removal is not in the official documentation from what I've seen. You keep saying Sierra this, Sierra that, but what you really mean is that a beta broke your stuff, which is expected and explicitly warned about.

Nice server farms, Apple.

My Messages app can't send or receive messages since updating iOS 10 Beta 3. Anyone else experiencing this?

Everything runs great for Beta. Fast and smooth. My only one, huge, issue? Using Safari and after some hours my system hug. It was happening 3-4-5 times a day. Sent more than 25-30 reports, most of them included diagnostic files and big description. Even video, because everything freezes except my mouse and music continue to play but nothing is working, buttons or clicks. Requires reboot. I know, this is the reason I am here with beta. I had similar problems before. Like not waking up after sleep, stuck to black screen or while using safari. Last years I changed to Firefox and I am happy man. Even know, after weeks that was impssible to browse without problem, changed to Firefox and sent 1-2 reports to let them know again that Safari is causing the problem, 100% sure.

I am downloading the updating now and will go back to Safari again (which is great-smooth-fast over Sierra). Hope they fixed it like the problem with black screen when you had woken up the machine.

Others mentioned windows...sorry but Apple need to try too hard to ****ed up their system to make me go back to Windows. And I have NO idea why people need more&more features year by year. Give us stability&function&speed and I will be super happy. Make every app work without any problem and boom, gold. BTW so disappointed by the way Disk Utility works if you want to make a new partition over ext.drives.. it's unbelievable slow for the ones who use usb.2.0 and 2-6TB drives

So what has changed? Do you even know Macrumours?
Well it seems to be stable.......touch wood........vyprVPN works fine. My ethernet internet ports work.
I'm using an external thunderbolt attached HD to my 27" iMac 36G RAM.
RadioShark with Audio Hijack not working.
Transferring data icon now a circle not a line!!

I was reading here and there about problems with Mail in the previous betas, especially with Exchange accounts. Any news about these problems in the newest beta?

I had to set it up as "Other" and it worked fine. Setting it up just as Exchange gave me an error message.

I'm still trying to figure out how to download #2.
I redownload it and it's beta #1
I down want to download 1 I want to download 3 now. But how?

I can definitely say that Safari is getting snappier. :)

On my 2011 MacMini Server (8GB, 2GHz 4 core i7, 2x500GB HD), here are some launch times for Safari under El Capitan, Sierra public beta2 and Sierra public beta 3.

I first tested Safari in El Capitan (on one of the two internal HDs), then rebooted into Sbeta2 which was on the other internal HD and tested Safari 10 minutes after logging in. Then I updated to Sbeta3, waited ~ 30 minutes until Activity monitor indicated the system was taking less than 3% of the CPU. I quit ActMon, then tested Safari. In all cases, no apps other than Safari and no Finder windows open.

The number is the time in seconds from clicking Safari's Dock icon until it loaded the Google splash page. The second and third numbers were taken after quitting Safari and waiting 60 seconds to launch it again.

El Capitan: 1st launch: 10 sec 2nd launch: 3 sec 3rd launch: 3 sec
S pub beta2: 1st launch: 96 sec 2nd launch: 7 sec 3rd launch: 6 sec
S pub beta3: 1st launch: 36 sec 2nd launch: 7 sec 3rd launch: 3 sec

So Safari really *is* snappier! Or at least it's better than beta2, which was in all respects pretty much slow as an old dog on a hot day.

Seeing as Macrumours lacks details, here is what I have found:

Siri is now quick like a cat, more responsive with more capability

Safari and Internet browsing now super quick. No crashes or delay

On startup, Mail said it was optimising for 1 minute. Found the Mail program to have no lag or delay. Very smooth. Also an addition of colour overlay when you drag down the mouse to match the desktop background. A bit like iOS.

Folder opening now appears to have remembered your last sizing requirements.

Photos app on startup said it was optimising photos app. There seems to be a highlight border around each photo now when selected.

you are taking your decisions judging a beta wait until the final version is out then make another evaluation , i honestly think you need to re think about w10 anniversary update i just came from win beta forum where i have so much fun torturing the w10 users , do you know that Microsoft is putting adware in w10 computers.i'm not talking about the old spyware news , this is something totally new , adware so beware.

Occasionally when I boot into macOS Sierra I get a grey boot screen with a circle and a line through it (Prohibitory symbol). Usually means probably can't find a system folder. Anyone else run into this problem? Though, after I reboot it is fine.......thoughts?

i totally agreed with you about everything , the problem is that people can't wait for the final official version then they install the beta and they start complaining when they should know that is a beta. i don't even have a real mac i'm a hackintosh user, i installed the first beta test it out after i find out that everything is compatible that i already know that is going to work then i deleted and went back to EC 10.11.6 now i'm happily and patiently waiting for the official release of sierra. the reason why i didn't bought a real mac is because i like to customized my system. i have always like the mac pro but the trash can is too small and the previous model is a little old but maybe in the future i will buy a real mac pro i'm waiting for a new model. hope you understand my bad english.

PPTP was removed due to security issues.

Windows is getting closer in terms of UI polish with the Anniversary edition. Similar hardware, Windows UI is much snappier and doesn't suffer from all the stupid micro glitching El capitan and Sierra have. Call it trivial, but its part of the UI Experience for me. Windows has also caught up in terms of stability and overall quality. Yosemite was a QA disaster, and apple knew it. Windows 10 is at least as stable as El captain. It has also caught up for some functionality (linux subsystem vs BSD subsystem, whatever it calls the equivalent of continuity as I mentioned). With their new CEO, they are now starting to make the right decisions and is now taking puts it on a trajectory to surpass OSX is Apple puts as little effort into OSX as they have been. Same thing for hardware. Apple seems to have given up on computer hardware and focused on what makes money. I was really feeling the direction Apple took Mavericks, but feel its losing its focus. Again this is all my opinion.

Android is also getting better, but I'm not a fan. I switched to the Apple ecosystem because I wanted a mobile OS that worked without constantly having to fiddle with. I also needed better exchange capability, and the third party apps were not so great at the time. The stability of Android is now better than it was, but for me, Android still lacks polish. The android hardware is catching up fast, however. Have you used a Nexus 6P? That was last year when I tried it even, and there are other phones that are physically better than the iphones IMO (I use a 6S Plus).

Metal is not only used for gaming, its used for anyone that wants to take advantage of faster graphics. This includes Core Animation. Just like Windows uses DirectX to animate its UI.

I'm aware its a beta. Its not my first rodeo. I've been through the last four OS releases in this fashion and I know what to expect. It will get better. I just believe Apple is not putting the resources into their products vs the competition and are starting to lose their competitive edge.
