I'm a little bit confused.

My ATV3 got it's update too, but it was not 8.4.2 as mentioned in the article, but 7.2.2.
According to ipsw.me , it should be 8.4.2 for both, the 2013 model and for the original ATV3, i have.

I didn't see it last night when i updated my apple tv.... I wonder whats taking so long

Whoa! I'm really unimpressed. I had it in my head that it would work with purchased product in iTunes and would organise my unwatched TV eps I've purchased etc but it doesn't work with iTunes purchases which im shocked by.

So far the best way I think to manage media is by streaming from the comp and using unwatched sections in movies and TV .

Yes it does.

Anyone else notice you can choose Netflix in the TV app? I thought Netflix was not included? Or is that only for the "next up" feature?

My ATV3 found the 7.2.2 update. Googling around, it looks like 7.2.2 "is based on iOS 8.4.2" which is a new release of iOS for the ATV3 ONLY (you can't get iOS 8.4.2 for an iPhone or iPad). Thus the version confusion. Not seeing any reliable sources for this info, but it makes sense. The MacRumors article certainly didn't bother to source their info or explain it. I assume this patches some security vulnerability that must have been fairly critical for Apple to bother doing this (which might worry me if I was running 8.4.1 on an iPhone or iPad), and I assume Apple did it for the ATV3 because it was being sold as a new product until fairly recently (thought it still was, but not seeing it in the Apple Store online).

My use of Apple TV 4Gen:

1.Streaming; Playstation Vue, Directv Now (Testing)
2.Plex TV (Plex DVR(record local stations) play my own media
3.Channels App (Local channel guide and the ability for all TVs to see the local channels with one antenna

The Apple TV is my set top box now on all of my TV's (4)

Forgive, since I have not looked, but is the name of the actually app called "Channels"? I am assuming by your comment that you will need an external antenna connected to...? I am curious how this works.

The TV app is hot garbage. It's nearly worthless and Apple implemented it as another app instead of integrating it into tvOS. Like I really want to open another app to find what's playing in another app and then have to open the other app to watch what I want. Another Tim Cook innovation.
What are you talking about? I find a show in the TV app, and click on it. The TV app automatically opens the content app in the background and starts playing the episode I chose. When the episode is over, I press the home button and I'm back in the TV app where I began (this is a new mapping of the home button that will take a little getting used to). The show I just watched is added to the Next Up list. I don't have to manually open and close apps, the TV app does all that for me.

I am going to plug WatchAid, check it out, I feel like it address a lot of the early criticism the TV apps gets. It does support Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Go and a lot off other services (88 total). It focuses on airing shows and only works in the US (sorry).

With a friend we are working on WatchAid on our spare time and we welcome your inputs.

The idea behind WatchAid is to improve the Apple TV with making a single place where you will always have an updated list of newly available episodes for shows that you like to follow across all services. Which is an impossible task to accomplish otherwise.

Has anyone got single sign on to work with DirecTVNOW? I wonder if it's only working with a standard DirecTV account right now.
Unfortunately DirecTV Now isn't working.
[doublepost=1481674659][/doublepost]Anyone having any issues with the update? I can't log into my 5GHz wifi network any longer. Even my regular wifi signal is worse. I did a restart of both the ATV (4th gen) and my Airport Extreme.

7.2.2 is the apple tv software version, if you click the centre button it brings up the os build number which would be 8.4.2.
(Im assuming, I'm not home so haven't been able to check my atv3)
I figured out a little while ago the os build numbers were pretty much "in line" with the iOS release version numbers back in time. (Obviously not now because apple hasn't given any updates to iOS 8)

It's changed with tvOS, simple just one version number

Before the update I could tell Siri:
"Play the last episode of South Park"

and the Hulu app would open and start playing the last episode of South Park. It just worked. You could not make it easier, I loved it.

After this update, when I tell Siri
"Play the last episode of South Park"

1) I am presented with a screen where I have to select the "open in" icon
2) then select "open in Hulu" on a second screen
3) then select the box "episodes" on a third screen
4) then scroll all the way to the right to get to the last episode
5) then click play button

So this update has basically anihilated the ease of use provided by Siri. Great job guys. I want to downgrade so badly.

Did you guys notice anything different with ATV3? I thought the TV app and single sign on was coming to that device too, i guess not.

Quick question, what is the difference between WatchAid and Trackd? I see it is supported so what are the extra features... the AppleTV app? I am new to both but I like the idea!

My screen saver now will only loop one specific Dubai scene. While nice, how do I get it to shuffle the screen saver options? Does it have to do with my Download New Movies settings?

I think mine only goes between two or three scenes… I have yet to see any of the new ones and ones like Hawaii haven't been shown in months I can't figure out a way how to force it… I have tried changing the screen saver and restarting to no avail.

New screensavers are now downloading with 10.1.1
