I just don’t see the value anymore for the ATV here in the UK. Have a few gen 2 and 3’s just to watch iTunes movies I bought over the years. I’m slowly moving away to Amazon for my media.

On the contrary I have Amazon Prime Video as part of my Prime membership but never use it. I really wish there were a way to tell Amazon I'm not interested in seeing all their devices shoved in front of me every time I'm shopping with them online. I tried rating them all one star but they still constantly push their stuff. If I'm shopping for toothpaste I don't need to know about Amazon Echo. :-(

My ATV4 sits in the basement because you can't search for songs on your home computer like you could with ATV 1, 2, and 3. Apple only tells you about new features, not the ones they are removing. Good thing I kept my ATV 3.

They changed that and (re)introduced search two point releases ago

I was hoping this update would fix an iTunes issue. I made the mistake of buying Mr. Robot Series 3 series pass (which is still in the process of being broadcast). I started watching it on my previous Apple TV prior to upgrading to Apple TV 4K. Now on the new Apple TV when I try to select Mr Robot Series 3 it just spins forever. Doubtless there's some dumb licensing corner condition that will auto resolve when the series broadcast finishes in a few weeks. In the meantime... Grrrrr!!!

Apple’s movie offerings beat the competition in the UK; 4K, HDR/DV and iTunes Extras. ATV will run Now TV, stream Apple Music, hooks in with my iCloud Photo Library. That’s why I need ATV in the UK.

Fire TV box (not Stick) gives me Prime stuff, ITV Hub and other terrestrial content not on ATV.

Netflix & BBC iPlayer run on both, but that said I’m sure there s Netflix client for my toaster somewhere.

Both devices and their respective first party services are outstanding. Why cut yourself off from one or the other; it’s not an either/or thing. Performance and services on both are fantastic and I wouldn’t be without either of them.

Ouch moving to Amazon for your media is the worst thing that anyone can do. HUGE mistake.
I live in the UK and ATV is perfect. I guess it depends what you use it for. I don't watch English TV mainstream as I detest the rubbish on it but ATV has all of the apps that I need. I regard ATV as the best box out there. We use it 99.9% of the time.

Apologies if this has been answered before:

If you have an Apple TV 4K and a 1080p TV, can you do 24hz @ 1080 with the latest update?

Yes you can buddy. Go into Match frame rate. Perfect!

There is no new Terminator 2 release on Apple TV.

There is no new Terminator 2 release on Apple TV. The 4K Blu-ray comes out the day after Christmas. Stop trolling!
There is. We got it today in the UK store. £9.99.

There is. We got it today in the UK store. £9.99. 4K BUT NOT in DV OR HDR!!! Strangely!

Using a couple "free" Apple TV 4K that I got on the DirecTVNow deal. Have been happily using Amazon Fire TV's in our house (have 4 of them), and am about to go back to using them as they are superior to me.

The ATV4K remote is terrible. I might get used to it in year. Who knows. 1 sq inch touchpad? Give me the option to turn down the sensitivity/speed (or is there a way to do it?).

So far, stuff we watch looks "odd". Hard to describe, but it's almost that weird look when using a fake 120hz "sports" mode on some TV's. It's a clear and sharp picture, but things definitely do not look natural.

And the iTunes app for watching purchased content is like working with software from 20 years ago. They should look at other apps like Plex. That's how a UI should be done.

Loving the new update, iTunes 4K movies are now playing in 24p just need Plex to get an update to support it too.

Sounds as though the TV is not liking the 60fps setting. All will be perfect with this update. The ATV can now automatically adjust to the frame rate AND HDR/SDR etc. Give it a try, i'm sure that you'll be very impressed.

This is a major update for ATV 4K users with 4K TVs especially those with HDR sets. Now you can specify in the menu for the ATV to respect the DR and frame rate of the content, and let the TV do the scaling/conversion instead of the ATV. It's a small thing but a huge, necessary update so the TV isn't forced to display incorrect mismatched colors and frame rates for non-compliant content.
so i should let it match the content for DR and FR? I have a 2016 lg 4k led. thx

Just tried it and it's much better. Watching TV series that I purchased in iTunes i think just look much cleaner than I am used to seeing them on DirecTV. The show episodes I've watched dozens of times so my brain expects them a certain way, but now that they are purchased, I'm watching a much cleaner version of it...thanks for the "411" on the update.

Happy with my ATV2 as it just works and there is nothing so far worth upgrading for. I bought the ATV4 for my mom but the remote was confusing and the whole voice control thing...well...it is still Siri-like :(

Quick question. Just updated to 11.2 on the ATV. I got a pop up saying something about “TV notifications” and how I should enable them so I stay up to date. Is this something that’s always been there and I just never noticed? I can’t find it in the settings. Can someone help clarify?

It disappeared before I could take a picture.

Thanks!

This could be related to the new Sports function in the TV app, which can send prompts regarding score updates.

In other news, Amazon PR is still sticking to the "by end of year" timeline for the Prime app.

I already own Terminator 2 in HD. Will this eventually ripple through as a free 4K update? Because it doesn't indicate that at the moment.
Not sure as it is a new release off the back of the cinema 3D version earlier this year

Terminator 2 in 4K HDR is on the U.K. iTunes Store. I haven’t bought it, but it’s definitely available to buy or rent.

Don't buy it. It's a P.O.S.

They took what was likely a great 4K mastering job and slathered a bunch of DNR on it as part of the conversion for 3D theatrical release. The 2D 4K version is just a "one-eye" view of this 3D version (when you watch it, right at the beginning it will even mention that "this 3D release was prepared by Studio Canal" even though it's not 3D).

Go read up on home theater/movie sites. The forum members are on the rampage.

I have apple tv4k and lg oled 65c7v. Now with this new update, is it better to use Dolby vision 4K 50hz or 60hz? And enable automatic hdr and frame rate switching?

Settings > Remotes and Devices > Touch Surface Tracking (Fast, Medium, Slow). It's still not great, but there is an adjustment.

The update works great but even if i’ve Tried many combinations, with HDR on my TV have colo distortions and bad contrast. Even if I tune colors, Contrast and others settings, HDR on my TV have some issues, some icons have little bands, color gradient are visible like there are less colors. Anyway it looks great in SDR. Probably it is an issue with my TV which is an Hi-Sense.
Using HDMI 2.0 cable, HDR is on on TV but overall image is better with SDR

Wow you still use Plex? You’re still stuck in 2009.

It is a Hisense H8 because those TVs don’t have real HDR it’s just fake HDR.

I have the C7 too and since the update, HDR looks like crap in any mode. Sometimes I have to put it in Dolby Vision game mode because of the lip sync issue. Or I trot Standard, turn down the color, turn up the color, turn down the oled, nothing looks right. It’s making me insane. I feel like I’m adjusting settings for every different thing I watch.

Apparently, you haven't used Plex since 2009. It's a great product that works on every platform.

Please share your "modern" solution that allows us to stream our personal media library to every device that is better than Plex (which, BTW, is FREE). Keep in mind it needs to not only stream to every device IN my house, but it needs to stream to my phones and tablets when I am AWAY from my house (FOR FREE).
