Aaaaaand, this is why I do NOT use iCloud. My photos are on my iPhone SE and nowhere else. I never use iCloud and I never enable it. The one time Apple tried to enable it without my consent, I quickly stopped it and disabled it! Stuff I get FROM Apple (App Store), stuff that is completely generic or otherwise not concerned about others seeing, I'll put in "the cloud", but my personal stuff... nope. It's on MY computer/iPhone and nowhere else. If you mention Email being "in the cloud", how else can Email be sent/received? Even if you use POP (instead of IMAP), it went through a server, so who's to know if a copy isn't still there? We find out, more and more, the people/companies who we assume we should be able to trust with our lives or personal effects, oftentimes are only looking out for themselves. And it won't get any better.

What I want to know is if these were deleted permanently why aren’t more people pissed off at Apple for continuing to hold them on servers!!!

Losing my trust in that company. Oddly, if you delete something and call Apple support, they will tell you it’s lost. So which is it?! Is Apple deleting these or holding onto them for some internal need?!
That was not the issue. Essentially the files “fell behind the kitchen drawer” instead of being deleted. Your phone is the metaphorical kitchen cabinet, not the servers.

So wouldn’t the 17.5.1 update on a user’s iPhones and iPads fix this issue without needing a tvOS update? Or is this tvOS update made to fix the issue if one hasn’t updated their other iDevices? I guess I don’t know how the photos sync with the Apple TV. Thought it was syncing via iCloud, but this supposedly isn’t an iCloud issue.

Apple constantly reminds me to update to the latest tvOS version and I constantly dismiss it since 17.1 was the last version to still include iTunes. Really hoping tvOS 18 revamps the TV app in positive ways. Apple has disappointed me in that area.

I guess I should just be fortunate that Apple still sells movies at all and hasn’t forced a subscription-only model on us (yet).

Well now I understand why iCloud storage fees aren't competitive... They're using the other half of what your dollar should be giving you to store your deleted files. Lol.

When I posted my initial comment, I didn't read the rest of the headline for photos reappearing. Were people's photos really reappearing on Apple TV? I mean I would hate to be watching something and then all of a sudden Photos are popping out of nowhere. What is Apple Doing here?

Apple TV has a Photos app, so that’s where you’d see your photos. They wouldn’t just pop up while you’re watching something else.

Mid update I was shown a new full screen verbiage saying, "validating update." Ethernet update method, and I am decently aware of the update process screens 🤷🤪

1 of 4 of mine did that. All ATV4K 1st gens. I’ve had Apple TVs for at least 5 years and I’ve never seen that happen before today.

I have had every AppleTV since the original release. And what they've done to the browsing/purchasing experience has just ruined it for me. It is so difficult to simply browse for content. They've mashed movies and television shows into an unusable hot mess of "top 10", "trending", and "hot picks". It's now easier and more enjoyable to use the Amazon Prime interface than Apple's.

So sad. I will probably not be buying anymore AppleTVs.
Very true. I used to be excited to use the TV app interface but now I rather deal with the individual apps again.

Or use the Android setup box of my cable company. So much more responsive and intuitive.

So no one holding apple accountable for storing people’s deleted photos but it’s okay though

Some of us are busy finishing up work before summer.

Why can't you hold Apple accountable on behalf of us? Please report back what you did and how effective the result was.

We might hold you accountable if you fail to hold Apple accountable. Yes, there is accountability all the way down.

Old deleted photos showing up on other people's apple tv's too now? LOL
No evidence of that.

If they are releasing an update for the TVOS, they really should be specific as to why. I love the Apple TV product, but I hate how they handle updates.
The release notes aren't enough?

They are on-device, so not Apple.

What I want to know is if these were deleted permanently why aren’t more people pissed off at Apple for continuing to hold them on servers!!!
Because they are not.

Aaaaaand, this is why I do NOT use iCloud.
Unrelated.

Apple: "This update addresses a rare issue where photos that experienced database corruption could reappear in the Photos library even if they were deleted."

It's in the article itself!

Because some of us knows what happened and the problem was with the local database for photos/files on the device. The photos was never permanently deleted because it was used by more than the Photo app.

Aa
People who didn't use iCloud were also affected by this bug.
Aaaaand, THAT'S why I only update my iOS when absolutely necessary. I'm currently running iOS 16.7 on my iPhone SE (3rd Gen). It works... no photo bugs... I'm happy. Nobody better tell me this bug is also being seen on iOS 16.7 or Im'ma gonna hafta come up with another "Aaaaand..." comment! 🤣

Agreed. Except sadly I recently set up a fire stick for a family member to replace a Roku. Amazon is no better. Apple is taking inspiration from all the other horrible interfaces.

About the only thing the Apple TV still has going for it is that it’s fast, and of course integrates with the ecosystem. I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time before they start inserting ad banners.
