Restart your Apple TV. I'm in the UK and it showed up after a restart.

FaceTime not available for Apple TV 4K Gen 1's??:mad::mad:
Yeah, unfortunately we didn’t make a big enough issue about this. This should’ve gotten backlash like stage manager not being available on A12x iPads. There is absolutely no reason they couldn’t add FaceTime to first gen 4K’s. Pretty sure the community backlash was the only reason they went back on the M1 iPads only thing.

FaceTime works great with my iPhone 13 and 65" Sony XR-65X90J. Will make FaceTime Calls with our granddaughter in Phoenix more exciting.

So wait let me get this straight, they're releasing iOS 17 for my Apple TV HD released in 2015 and yet my iPhone 8 Plus released in 2017 and my gf iPhone SE released in 2016 does not get an update?
Come on man!😝
tvOS is a lot lighter weight than iOS.

I’m not complaining, my Apple TV has been the best investment in the past 8 years.

Yes, FaceTime is available for both 4K gens and the Apple TV HD as well. At least in the U.S. I have all three and FaceTime works on all of them.

I’m sorry to say that it is not an AI implant. It is unlikely to magically make your family phone calls more exciting.

Apple today released tvOS 17, the latest version of the tvOS operating system that runs on the Apple TV 4K models and the Apple TV HD.

tvOS 17, which arrives with build number 21J354, can be downloaded using the Settings app on the Apple TV. Go to System > Software Update to get the new software. Apple TV owners who have automatic software updates activated will be upgraded to tvOS 17 automatically.

In tvOS 17, Apple has added a FaceTime app for FaceTime calls on a larger screen. The feature works through an iPhone or iPad running iOS 17/iPadOS 17, with the iOS device serving as the camera and the TV serving as the display. With a Split View option, you can place your FaceTime call on one side of the TV and a TV show or game on the other side for SharePlay experiences.

Apple Music Sing, the karaoke feature on the Apple TV, can use the same Continuity Camera functionality to let you see yourself as you sing, complete with filters.

Apple redesigned Control Center to make it easier to get to key settings and information without having to open up the Settings app. Control Center also displays the system status, time, and the profile of the person signed in.

Second-generation Siri Remote owners can now use the iPhone to locate a lost remote, taking advantage of the Remote section of the iPhone's Control Center. There are a range of new aerial screen savers, along with screen savers based on the Memories section of the Photos app.

Other new features include Dolby Vision 8.1 support, an enhance dialogue option to make it easier to hear what's being said over music and effects, and support for third-party VPN apps. More on the new features in tvOS 17 can be found in our Apple TV roundup.

Anyone figure out how to turn on new feature that is supposed to give voices a little more emphasis over the rest of the soundtrack? these old ears need all the help they can get. ;)

No it isn’t. Apple specifically has under an asterisk that only 2nd gen 4K and above have facetime. And it’s definitely not on the HD. There’s also three generations of 4K TVs.

I can’t get the “Siri Enhancements” to work.

Under “What’s New”, it mentions Siri can now answer general knowledge questions like “Is corn a fruit?”.

Except, when I ask “Is corn a fruit?”, I get “Sorry, I can’t help you search for that here.”
I guess next year they will work on correctly answering! 😀

Note I have since found a reference that this only works with App,e HomePod speakers.

My wired Network Connection will not engage - in Automatic, it provide a 169.xxx. Address and when I set it Manually, the Device will not connect to the Internet either - I have restarted the AppleTV + my HomeHub Router a few Times already. So this may need to be fixed with 17.0.1 or 17.1 in a few Weeks - at present, I can only connect via Wi-Fi !

I guess you could allege planned obsolescence, hire a lawyer, and maybe force Apple to update your 2017 iPhone. Might be worth a try.
Wait till the judge orders to pay the Apple counsels legal fee for frivolous law suite.

This is the only area that the Fire Tv outshines the Apple tv, Alexa is a million times better

This is pretty cool, but it would be nicer if they sold a webcam based on the same technology as they have in MacBooks etc and then it would just be there all the time ready for calls... and better put a privacy switch on it lol
Yeah I want a wired dedicated webcam. Don’t want to use my phone or any other device that I have to set up each time and am not able to use while I’m FaceTiming.

Must be Gen 2 HomePods as it doesn’t work with my Gen 1 HomePods, or maybe it’s my Gen 1 ATV4K? Pretty pathetic need to work out what combination of devices allow you to use a feature.

Or maybe because the HomePods aren’t on OS17 but it’s not showing up for them or for the Minis as an update.

Reduce loud sounds works with external speakers so why can’t the dialogue enhance.

My TV has been updating for over an hour, install seems to be stuck with the progress bar almost full…

EDIT: seems to be a common issue with the tvOS 17.0 installation. Press and hold the back and TV buttons on the remote and the TV will reboot and properly finish installing
Thank you for this. Both of my Apple TV 4Ks were frozen with a sliver of progress bar to go. Waited over an hour and it didn't do anything. This solved my problem.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the sleep timer function. I will be using this every night in bed.
