I’m pretty sure the new firmware broke IR functionality for me. I’m no longer able to control volume and mute on my Pioneer receiver. I reconnected my old 1st gen Siri remote and it works just fine.
I've also noticed IR being finicky after the update. Mine didn't stop working entirely, but now it takes a few button presses before it registers anything.

Could this explain why, over the last couple of weeks, the battery life of my remote has plummeted catastrophically? Like, it went from hardly ever needing to be charged to very suddenly draining to 10% within a few days after a full charge.
All of my appletv remotes battery life dropped dramatically a few months ago. Not just one model and remote but all 3 of my appletvs. One is 1080p model. Other is launch 4k model. And one less than year old. At first I thought maybe old battery and remote is just done. But it is odd that all three have to be recharged in less than week now instead of months from charges.

My remote just updated to the new firmware. (Just plugged it in and waited a few minutes)
Interestingly it fixed a problem with my ISPs TV app, wehre i wasn’t able to change channels using the up & down buttons since PB4. Same on PB5. So it seems that the firmware update did fix some problems that tvOS PB4 introduced.

Scrubbing with the new remote certainly hasn't been intuitive. Watched a tutorial so at least able to do it, but still not consistently and getting others in the house or guests to learn that is a non starter. Along with frustrating you can can't just click the power button to turn off but have to hold it down for a few seconds which also isn't intuitive. Wonder if either of these can be adjusted with the latest firmware.
yeah not sure why it isn't a one click power off. Odd to hold it down for couple seconds unless one click down did something else.

and I also can't get going fast forward or rewind as easy as other remotes. Odd as it is Apple.

Other than some individually reported bugs and possible fixes here, has anyone noticed any definitive change or improvement that appears to be consistent?

I have not received the update even though my remote is fully charged..when you say you plugged it in in order to get the update, what do you mean..plugged it into the wall outlet?

I think so. I just plugged mine in for 6 or 7 hour. Was old version before; new version now.

Still wish I knew what I might look for that's different, if anything.

I dont know why mine is NOT updating..I already charged it completely yesterday, plugged it into the wall socket to charge, so its fully charged..yet on settings it still shows the "old" update so not sure how to properly update

When you try to use the siri button to type, make sure your selection is on the keyboard (any of the letters or numbers) and it should prompt the siri typing instead of the system search.
Yes, I know how the Siri search works for the keyboards. I’ve had a Siri remote since the day they came out years ago, and have never had this issue.

I’ll say that I’ve noticed it seems finicky to get Siri to dictate, but also it seems harder to get iPhone keyboard input to work too. Sometimes the notification doesn’t appear on iPhone; sometimes it goes away quickly. I barely had the new remote before i got tvOS 15 beta though.

The firmware version in Remote settings changes to 0x0061, after updating. SMH that you didn’t know what you were talking about, but, presented your feelings as fact.
Finding 0x0061 listed in the ATV settings, does let one know the firmware has been updated.
Listening to others is one thing…thinking for yourself…is another.
I agree, so then I have to ask for the sake of thoroughness, how do we know for sure that this is the same firmware update as the one mentioned in the article if they have different numbers?

Yes, I plugged it into the wall outlet, while the ATV was turned on and the remote connected to the ATV.

Anyone else seeing significant intermittent lag using the remote since the firmware update?

Sometimes it takes a few seconds to register input, at other times it doesn’t seem to register at all, and at other times it acts like you held the button down for seconds even as a brief tap such as the volume going to 100% several seconds after tapping volume up.

Honestly, it's been like that since it was released. A noticeable downgrade in performance from the older remote. Now I have to click, click, click just to change the volume one step, while pointing the remote, line of sight on the horizontal plane to my soundbar. So much for improvements with newer technology. It's annoying.

Since the Update for the new siri Remote was released, the Volume control is laggy. When i press up or down the volume doesnt change instantly, it takes a mili sec longer then normally. When i restart the Apple TV it works Perfect again, after putting it into rest mode, the Problem occurs again.

Anyone Else experiencing it?

Ok, so another user gave me the solution:

you have to teach the Apple TV what the IR commands are for your particular sound bar. It's a very unintuitive process, but it does work:

- open settings
- Go to Remotes and Devices, then under the heading Home Cinema Control you will find Volume Control
- Open this setting and press "Learn New Device"
- now use the remote that came with your sound bar to "teach" the Apple TV the IR commands.

Save the settings and then try again. Your Siri Remote should know now how to control the Sound bar.

that works, but That shouldnt be the Solution for the Future. It worked normally before the Update

I have the same problem as well after the update. Apple cant even make a remote work well.. 😸

The QA doesn’t seem to great on the new remote either. Second replacement on the way for clickpads being partially sunken down. They are so unflush you can’t swipe up/down reliably without catching the edge transitioning from the inner pad to outer wheel. While annoying for me the wife really hates it as her nails catch it much more.

Do you think the new firmware might have increased the number of volume levels? It seems that my remote responding, but it takes more clicks to increase volume comparably to several weeks ago...
