Apple today released new firmware designed for the MagSafe Charger that is compatible with the iPhone 12 and later and the latest AirPods and Apple Watch models. The updated firmware is version 10M3761, up from the prior 10M1821 firmware. In the Settings app, you'll see a different version number than the firmware number, with the update displayed as version 258.0.0 (the prior firmware was 255.0.0).

The MagSafe Charger was initially released in the fall of 2020 alongside the iPhone 12 models, and this is the fourth firmware update that Apple has provided since the accessory launched.

Because firmware updates are released quietly over the air, Apple does not provide release notes. We do not know what new features or bug fixes might be included in the software.

There is no clear method for updating a ‌MagSafe‌ charger's firmware, but it needs to be plugged in and connected to an Apple device for a firmware update to initiate. You can check your ‌MagSafe‌ Charger's firmware by following the instructions in our MagSafe Charger how to.

I wonder if it's stability, sometimes have to unplug from wall and/or reboot the iPhone 12 once every few weeks to reconnect. Didn't always happen.

What could possibly need updating? It just changes that’s it, what bugs has anyone had with it lol
You say that, but a firmware update to this and the MagSafe battery pack kept my phone from heating up so much when in use. I don't know if they slightly slowed the charging rate or did something else to modulate the charging when the temp went up, but it worked.

I thought this was photoshopped. What could possibly justify charging $700 for 4 wheels?
It’s really not. It's the real deal. $699.00 without tax is how much they really cost from Apple.com.

No one knows and it remains a mystery.

My firmware version is 0.0.0.0. That doesn't sound right. I plugged it into my Macbook Air. Nothing changed. Ideas?

Nevermind...it finally updated and looks correct.

The MagSafe charger always seemed to randomly disconnect/reconnect once my phone reaches 100%. Hopefully that's what this firmware update fixes.

And no locks either, wow. Crazy.

Updated, safari seems snappier.

Regarding the tweet above... Plugged my Mac's Magsafe cable into the Mac using the USB-C side and I didn't see it in System Report. Still curious how that firmware version is viewed, it doesn't show up in the "Power" section either.

Replies on Twitter say Power --> AC Charger Information --> Firmware... but that doesn't say anything about the cable. Seems like it's displaying the firmware of the power brick itself.

I've asked this before but never really heard an explanation - what is the method that is used to update the firmware on the MagSafe charger puck? I understand you can plug them into a Mac and they will update. That makes sense to me. But presumably they can still update themselves while only connected to the wall via a power brick and attached to an iPhone. How does this work? Some kind of wireless communication? What is the protocol?
