Imagine getting a brand new headset, you put it on, and then...

...you have to sit through a "downloading update" and "preparing update" screen, followed by 15 minutes of pitch black nothing broken up only by a spinning circle and the words "installing."

Truly the magical high-tech future has arrived. :p
If it’s like the quest it prob does updates before shutting down

Any guesses as how how large Vision OS is? Larger than Mac OS?
I don't know how much space it takes once decompressed and installed, but the visionOS 1.0 download is 6.4GB. The 1.0.1 incremental update is 129MB (full download is not available, delta OTA only).

Although I’m not getting one, I’m really curious about wether you can install the update connecting the headset to a Mac, or even perform a clean install, instead of an OTA.
There's hints that .ipsw files will be available later. There's rumors that people with dev kits had beta ipsws available.

But the specifics are not clear yet; maybe that was only for dev kits and the publicly available cable will be only for charging, and everything else (including app development) will be wireless, like Apple Watch. We probably won't know until it ships to users.

Damn dude, if you have that big a tax refund, fix your withholding. You're giving Uncle Sam a free $3500+ loan over the course of a year!
Well My Tax withholding is much larger then his, I am not tax expert lol. what can you do, it's my HR deduct from my payroll right. you seems to know what are you talking about, please share, I know this topic is about AVP but I am curious what as an employee I can do, I fall in to 30% or 40% bracket

My question is will you be able to drive a car while wearing this? It seems like it wouldn’t really be the same as being distracted by holding a phone and looking down at it while driving. If it works ok while driving I think a lot more people will be interested in it. Will you have to cheat the settings somehow to be able to do this?
Please don't think of doing that so, you won't make it a mile.

Of course, user could put it on, see they need an update, start update, slip it off or perhaps just up, do things on the Mac or iPad or iPhone or go to the restroom or grab a bite of food, etc, then come back to it, slip it back on and resume... exactly as we can do when our Mac or iPad or iPhone needs updates. I do this just about every time vs.- say- sitting there staring at the black screen on my Mac or iPad while any update downloads and applies.
It could be a silent update? or update on the background, if it does similar to ATV or Mac gets updated, there might be suggestion to take it off and VP will chime when the update is completed?

Thanks for the hints anyways! We’ll see, for curiosity sake.

It’s got roughly 12ms of latency, I think.

60 miles / hour = 88 feet / second

12 milliseconds = 0.012 seconds

So you’ll actually be perceiving the image of where you were 88*0.012=1.05 feet ago. Not as bad as I thought it would be, honestly, but every millisecond counts in some situations. Now if you accidentally open an immersive experience while you’re driving, though… that’s an assured disaster.

And this is already happening to some degree - at this year's CES, BMW showed their Augmented Reality Glasses aimed at "enriching the driving experience..."

Nice. Seems inevitable once Apple can get the technology into glasses such as shown in the video. Lots of issues about what could safely be displayed on the glasses.

The best real time review by Robin of abc. No one except Robin was allowed by Apple to video record the demo and he answered important questions as well.
