Just a heads up that this update might be a little offputting for some.
Or, to many! 😀

annoying that they put the News app into the widgets section
Any reports on whether the News app updates the news without being connected to an iPhone?!

On my AW 7, with WiFi on, and even quitting News and starting it again, I still get weeks or months old stories. It only updates if I connect the Watch to the iPhone and update the News on the phone first!

Have they made any improvements in it? It would be great to see more than a few short lines of text for each article! News could be quite spiffy with a couple of screenfuls of text with the usual photo at top. It could become as useful as the Weather app!

sorry, don't use the News app so can't tell

People were confused by Watch OS 10? How. It seems pretty easy to me. It also feels a lot more convenient for me too. I always forgot that you had to swipe up for the Control Center so I barely used it. Now I can press the side button and there it is. As for swiping up, the widgets seem a lot more easier to use now, especially getting to podcasts and music. I'm very impressed with the new update so far.

Side swiping between faces needs to come back. Press & hold sucks!

After installing watchOS 10 on my Ultra, I can no longer swipe left or right to get to different watch faces. Incredibly lame.

Ugh, I was constantly swiping between faces as an easy way to access different widgets quickly (first face simple with just the time, second face focused on activity/exercise with rings, workout, Runkeeper, etc.) Having to do a long press to change faces is killing me, completely destroyed how I interact with my watch.

I also wish I could change the swipe up from the bottom to bring up the control center again.
This behaviour needs to revert back to watchOS9. It is highly unfriendly.
It’s amazing how they immediately make the old watches dated by brightening up parts of the ui revealing the bigger bezel. 🤣
This is the first thing I noticed after the watch updated. My series 6 felt like a series 3.

Exactly this!

S5 here. Been on it for about a week. No real difference in performance.

At the end of the day it’s a watch for me and so I don’t need blistering performance on my wrist.

All very subjective though.

Noticeable lag on my S5 to bring up recent apps (double click digital crown) and Control Center (press side button). Performance was never issue until now. I'll keep it for another year and look forward to upgrade to Series X.

One other thing you can try if you don't want to risk corrupting your current face is "cloning" the original face and using this clone as a guinea pig of sorts:

1. On the Watch app on the phone, tap the face you want to clone.
2. Tap the Share icon in the upper right of the screen (You are going to text the watch face to yourself).
3. Select "Messages" from the share sheet and enter your iPhone's phone number and then send.
4. Once the watch face shows up in your messages, tap it, and select "Add to My Faces."

You should have an exact copy of the watch face in question. You can try making changes to this copy and see if your tides app works without risking damage to the original.

Hope this helps!
As an update, before I had a chance to send myself a duplicate of the watch face, like you mentioned, the tides complication selection randomly appeared.

I was trying to put out other phone related fires and I guess a few reboots did the trick 😂.

For me, it’s a welcome change no more accidental swipe :)

I just hope it makes Siri a little more usefull. Really annoying she only works within 6 feet of the phone, or 5 minutes after leaving to phone properly so LTE is fully engaged
Yeah! I tend to (try to) set lots of reminders as I'm leaving the house, just outside the door where I'm still "connected" to wi-fi but can't get quick speeds.

Jesus these updates take forever. Took an hour to download and get through the preparing stage. We'll see how long it takes to actually install it now.

Watch OS 10 sucks

- widgets are too small to read and favorite apps in the Dock was more useful. Reminds me of that stupid Siri watch face that I never used

- i really have to go back to long press to switch watch faces again? Make up your freaking mind Apple! this is the absolute WORST! Not only cannot I not get to the dock with my favorite apps, I cannot swipe to a watch face with more complications that are shortcuts to apps I did not have room for in the dock.

After using WatchOS 10 for a day, it's clear that left and right swipes are gone all over the place.
Obviously one hypothesis is that these swipes confused people, but I don't think that's the full story; if it were I think these are useful enough to power users that Apple could have retained them behind a preference of some sort.

So I wonder if this is a link with Vision Pro. For example perhaps you'll be able to swipe on your watch to pan your vision pro display, and this is considered so useful and desirable that it's worth grabbing the gesture?

I suspect there's also a degree (and this is also a subtle link to Vision Pro) of Apple trying to get us to just train (and hopefully find valuable) the Stack. In theory (hah...) the Stack should be able to learn the items we usually access by different faces (my night face, my morning face, my exercise face) and provide that functionality.
Will it work?
My experience with the Siri watch face has been that it's an absolute delight when I am traveling and, one way or another via emails, calendar, kayak, etc, it knows my schedule and surfaces useful items as required. On the other hand in every day usage, it's not nearly as competent, and seems determined to show me items I simply am not and never have been interested in (like News) - substantially too much "this is what the average user wants" and substantially too little personalization.
Will this latest iteration be better? The fact that I CAN now negatively train the stack (ie tap (-) on stack items I don't want) is promising. We'll see.

I am seriously considering buying a Series 8 to replace my Series 7 on Amazon and then never upgrading it — I am just nervous that if I connect it to my iPhone it would forcibly install WatchRegress 10 on it.

More likely I will just not buy another Apple Watch and this will be my last one. I feel like a great device just became garbage. I just learned that I can double click the crown to get to recent apps, but apparently they could not put the freaking dock in place of that.

What do people mean you don't have face swiping anymore. Press and hold the center of the watch, and then you can see what faces are part of the watch. You may need to add them, but I can swipe the various faces that I've added.

I don’t understand people are saying you cannot change the face of the screen on the Apple Watch. used to like press and swipe left or right. Well I don’t know about you but I can still do that and I’m series 4. Is there something I’m missing? Really doesn’t matter if I’m on a series 4. Just some people just don’t like it in the obviously there’s no difference.

After a press-and-hold, yes….. it is clumsy, it takes longer and if you accidentally tap that “Edit” button it will even take longer. It is like going back to a Series 2 or 3 Apple Watch. Many of us had various watch faces that we would quickly switch between much like people switch between “Focus” modes to get different home screens on iPhone. For example, you might have a workout face, a morning watch face, a going-out watch face, an evening watch face — each with the complications you needed in each scenario to get stuff done. you could place your #2 and #3 watch face on the left and right of your #1 watch face and each was a single swipe away.

this new way of doing it is actually and old way and is basically a regression.

on top of that, why did they eliminate the dock? why can’t I double-click the crown to open the dock instead of recent apps? it is like they wanted to eliminate all quick ways to get to the apps you most want to use and instead force you to hope for Siri’s “dumb stack” to guess correctly about what you want to do.

UPDATE: Here is the perfect analogy on the watch face problem. On your iPhone you have probably configured more than one Home Screen page. Each page has different app icons and different widgets and probably looks different. Some may be sparse with a big photos widget or a clear view of the wallpaper while others are dense with small widgets and lots of app icons. Now imagine you upgrade to iOS 17 and you can no longer swipe left to right between Home Screen Pages. Instead, you have to long press to enter Home Screen Edit mode switch pages and then exit edit mode. That is how this feels for anybody who used watch faces like Home Screen pages and quickly swiped between them.
