My apple watch series 1 is slow and laggy on watchos 3. hope this at least alleviates that.

Can't help but think that lazy programming is behind all this. I mean come on, do we really need a dual core processor nowadays to smoothly run a 42mm screen computer on a wrist watch?

My main desktop computer 10 years ago was single core amd athlon xp with 512mb ram....same as my 'old' watch...and it was a beast and could do incredible and amazing things... like play online against 30+ people on battlefield lol.

Now 10 years later, the same specs can't send or receive emojis to one person without lag.

your desktop stays on your table and it could be the most energy-inefficient device ever, but it doesn't matter cos it stays there with power plugged in all the time. your apple watch needs to run with limited battery life.

Any idea on how to update to the latest version? If I go through the watch app, it says I have the latest version. I have the public beta version 14S452 which doesn't seem to match the final build version of 14S471. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

So why does my watch easily display a 3D solar system at 60 FPS but can barely load emojis?

Interesting. Mine doesn't say that:

I have a Series 0. Maybe Series 1/2 don't require being plugged in ?

EDIT:
Yours does say not to remove it from its charger. It's just worded differently. Did you update your iPhone to iOS 10.1 first? I'm still on iOS 10.0.

You were right. My screen did differ to yours when I was downloading it (Mine missed the third bullet point asking to connect to a charger and just said it needed >50% battery). But then after it downloaded, it asked to be connected to a charger. Hopefully it will be a future feature where you don't need to connect to a charger.

Edit: Yes, I'm using a Watch Series 2 on a phone running iOS 10.1.

That's what I keep hearing about the S2, is the poor battery life. That was the one thing that kept me from upgrading. I know the battery is larger in the S2, but with the screen brightness and GPS, its equivalent to the first Gen Apple Watch.
That's why I have screen brightness turned down one notch so it's equivalent to the S1, which i never once had a problem viewing in all lighting conditions. I never use GPS apps on it either, so I've noticed about a 20% increase in battery life overall.

That's what I do. Keep the screen brightness at minimum, turn off Hey Siri and reduce the haptic feedback.

I don't think the watch no longer needs to be placed in a charger to update. As long as your batter is greater than 50%, you should be good.

Not the case for me. Just kicked off the update with over 60% batter and got a message saying it had to be in the charger with at least 50% battery left.

Correct. Yes, I got that also after it finished downloading. It seems if you're running iOS 10.1, it's worded differently. In the end, I also had to connect to a charger to update.

I wish Apple would fix the "issue" where Apple Watch goes DING!!! every time it unlocks your Mac. It's so annoying for everyone around you, so much so that I have had to abandon that feature.

looking forward to the battery improvements that others mentioned during the beta period!
Battery on OS 3.0 has been great for me. I wear it to bed as my silent alarm and sleep tracker. After 7 hours, the battery is at 95% and then I immediately do a 1 hour and 15 minute workout (without GPS) and the battery is at 85%. That is so good compared to the previous Series 0 watch I have. If it adds even better life, I am happy about that...

Is it loud? I only use haptic so the minor vibration doesn't bother me at all and works like a charm. Others say they have had problems with the unlock.

I don't know. Do you know why, for sure?
But I'm sure that you shouldn't compare a watch to a desktop; everything is to be limited in this tiny device.

why does updating the watch take 2x longer than the phone and mac combined?!? updating this thing is pain.

Its a shame, we are on version 3.1, and if you select DND on a GROUP TEXT (people with both iMessage and SMS messages in the thread), the DND does not transfer to the watch, and I am constantly getting alerts on my watch, even though the phone shows DND and no notifications..............3.1 version, STILL NOT FIXED.

I'm still having problems with a battery issue after the update. I ran this morning on a full battery and when finished the battery indicated 41% left. I took the watch off and it dropped to 22%. Once I placed the phone on the charger it jumped to 78% instantly. This issue has been happening since watchOS 3 was installed and only happens during a workout. The battery itself seems to be fine but I've had the watch shut off thinking the battery was dead, even though it still had plenty of power left. So odd.

The music App has been dumbed down.
Can't Like songs anymore.

Ok, it seems that was a post update glitch.
Back to what it was.

Honestly its actually worse. My gen 1 was easily better, and I'm not even hard on my watch, i only get text and email notifications. Disappointed with it.

Battery life exceeds specs for me .. even using the integrated GPS for about an hour run most days. It was never claimed that the battery life of the S2 exceeded the S0. Both are spec'd for 18 hours. The bigger battery in the S2 is to compensate for the additional features (GPS, Brighter Screen). I usually wear mine about 22 hours a day and never worry about the battery.

I own both a S0 and S2 and battery life is comparable on WatchOS 3. You will have to charge either every day.

I didn't have any expectations when I got my first gen (2nd hand one about 4 months ago). Couldn't believe how amazing it was, a little slow, but amazing. Way better battery life than I was reading about in reviews and on this forum.

Then I got the new one, and the whole thing is crazy fast, nicer screen for sure, but battery life is not on par I feel with the first gen. I can get to the end of the day, but then the next day I can't and my activities are the same. I'm hoping to get the patch later on today on the watch and hopefully it's a lot better.

I don't get what some of you guys are doing with your watches - I've had a S0 for around a year before upgrading and damn this battery in my S2 is amazing! Days with a trip to the gym or a run without my phone is still around 50% at night and days with no workout is around 70% remaining battery - never got near that with my S0

Agreed, same here. I have all the bells and whistles turned on, I do 1-2 hours of cardio a day, typically half of it using GPS. I've yet to ever go to bed with the battery below 30%.
