How do you set this up? On my watch it says to open the health app on my phone. I do that but nothing happens.
I'm in the same position. It says my Watch is not paired to my Iphone, but I am getting HR data and step counts from my phone, so IT IS talking to the watch. I really don't want to pair it again, ugh!

Now for people to take ECG readings every 10 minutes to see what's going on and think they are dying.

Not kidding, the EKG feature may sell an Apple Watch to my wife. None of the other features interest her, but she has a fear of heart problems.

Is iOS 12.1.1 required? I was hoping to stay on 12.1 with hopes of a jailbreak. Thanks

How do you send your ECG results from the Health app? I can’t find that.
Found it! (Answering my own question.)

Did that show automatically for you? My watch updated and I have the ECG app on it. But when I launch it, it says to setup from health app. When I open health app it does do anything.
Reboot the watch. Worked for me.

Those with the dev beta-

Remove your dev beta profile from the Apple Watch app on the iPhone and then check update - it will show.

This is a little ridiculous to have to cycle on and off each time a release comes, especially since by another few days they usually start the beta cycle up again and you have to re-enroll.

"ECG will only be available if both iPhone and Apple Watch have been purchased in the US. Changing the region doesn’t work."

iPhone X bought last year. AW Series 4 bought this year, both purchased in USA. Just updated the watch, and the ECG app is fully functional. And I didn’t change anything in settings (region or whatever). I’ve just followed the initial steps (setting up on the Health app first then opening the app on the watch afterwards).

Ps.: I’m from Brazil.

i wonder if the heart rate sensor afib detection feature will be enabled for apple watch series 2 and 3 users? Given that the apple heart study was conducted on those watches...
Alongside ECG functionality, watchOS 5.1.2 introduces a new feature that will let you know if the Apple Watch is detecting an abnormal heart rhythm that's indicative of atrial fibrillation, which can be a sign of a serious health problem. The ECG feature is limited to the Series 4, but the irregular heart rhythm notifications will be available on all Apple Watch models able to run watchOS 5 - that's Series 1 or newer.

The update went smooth (and snappy) for me. I ran the ECG test once and got the all-clear sinus result. That was fun for 30 seconds.

I'm more excited about adding imessage and mail complications to the infograph face. :)
